When I started pipe smoking a few years ago, I tried A LOT of different pipes and tobacco blends trying to figure-out what works for me. Like most typical beginners, I started out with cheap pouch/bulk aromatics (cherry flavored in my case) before realizing I was not fully enjoying my smoking experience due to the low-quality tobacco that didn't burn well because it was doused in Propylene Glycol.
After a little self education, I moved to slightly better tinned aromatics (Peterson, MacBaren), and tried a wide variety of tobaccos, trying to find my preferences: VaPers, straight Va, VaBurs, Latakia and Oriental blends, before finally finding my preference in the English/Balkan blends (it's been a fun journey!)
Although I would characterize my tastes as mainly Latakia driven, well-balanced English and Balkan blends, I do also enjoy the occasional Aromatic as a once in a while change-of-pace.
