A complex mixture of Virginias and black Cavendish blended with choice Burley for added nuttiness. A sweet, yet earthy smoke with a delightfully mellow aroma.
I do get an extremely light nuttiness from the burley, and a hint of vanilla from the black cavendish. I get almost no apple taste from the topping, which tastes like a generic sweetness was applied without the apple. I can't recommend it on that basis, even though it burns at a reasonable rate with few relights, and doesn't taste bad, nor does it bite or get harsh. The problem is very little flavor peeks out. It's mellower than even the name implies. I rated the taste level at "extremely mild (flat), but it's a hair away from being flat. Has virtually no nicotine. Leaves little moisture in the bowl.
The apple flavor is nearly undetectable like a washed out, tasteless, modern, hybrid apple that has been grown for appearance and shelf life instead of for its flavor. As one would expect from McClelland, the tobacco itself is very good. The smell in the pouch and the room note are very pleasant. I would not order this from an internet retailer but if I found some in a Brick & Mortar I would consider buying it again if there was nothing better available.
Pipe Used: briar, cob
Purchased From: The Corona Smoke Shop of Michigan (Jackson Store)
Bought this on the recommendation of a brother of the briar. At first I thought it was tasteless. That's because I was using a cob with a filter. Without the filter it's a nice mild smoke. No nicotine, bite, or gurgle. Bystander approved. I will buy more.
