The Virginia is lightly grassy with a little citrus. The cavendish style Virginia has a little honey. The cherry topping has just a little depth, and does sublimate the tobacco. Burns a little on the fast side with some harshness and bite if you go beyond a moderate pace. Doesn't require too many relights, and has hardly any nicotine. Leaves moisture in the bowl, and the tobacco has a syrupy taste in the last quarter. The after taste is okay. Reminds me of Tinderbox's Anniversary Cherry, and I believe it is the same thing as I have to same problems with both blends, not to mention the similar taste.

I like steak but I don't eat it every day, so it is with this cherry blend. Tinder Box calls it Anniverary,generally latakia's and virginia's are my tobacco's of choice. This however is a quality aromatic that has a nice flavor but not overly sweet. It smokes well in any size pipe and burns to a nice gray ash with no wet heal to sour the smoke. In fact it smokes drier than some big name english blends do. You do get true tobacco taste at the 1/2 point of the bowl It settles in early and stay's consistent through the entire bowl. A true change of pace and something I always have around when called upon. If you get the chance give it a try, you will be surprised at the quality and mild flavor it produces. A very nice change of pace or all day puffer if you wish......it never bites and smokes clean. What else would you want from an aromatic? Enjoy it after a large dinner!

Not wanting to write a 'smarty pants' negative review, I have hesitated to write this for a long, long while. Cherry blends are a pleasure and a joy to smoke if you get the right one, and as I have now found out, pretty awful when you don't. This is both far too strong and far too artificial for my tastes. The aroma of this very, very damp tobacco surely could be nothing like the actual taste once flame is applied.
You think?
Burns hot, tastes like perfume, and hurts my tongue. I now believe in hell, as it is clearly packaged in this unexpectedly vile substance. I have never, ever thrown pipe tobacco away before, as no matter how disappointing, it can always be satisfactorily altered and salvaged by the addition of huge quantities of something else.

This weed may well have been changed by the manufacturer since the last reviews, as my experience was sooo strongly different. I was greatly dissapointed, espcially so since I love Luxury Curly Cut from Stokkebye. I know, I know, the two are entirely different tobaccos, but I had hoped the same hand blended both. Not so, as we shall see.
I recently ordered two ounces of P.S. Cherry, along with several other tobaccos, and when the package arrived, ALL the tobaccos smelled of the P.S. cherry casing. The aroma eminating from the package was that of a sickly sweet cough syrup, which did not bode well. It was but the matter of a few minutes for the other tobaks to clear up, but had the box sat for a week or two unopened, I have my doubts as to whether or not the "marriage" would have dissipated.
I will agree with most of the other reviewers, this lit and burned well. There was not much strength, nor much real tobacco flavor. What flavor there was actually resulted in a horrible after taste. Imagine the most poorly flavored cherry cough syrup you could find and you might come close. The after taste unfortunately hung on until I could get to a toothbrush. As well, the scent clung to my clothes like a wet dog.
Soory, but I can only give it a Not Recommended. I have my doubts that there are any well done cherry tobaks out there.

Peter Stokkebye - Cherry (No.3).
I opened this with a yawn, yet another cherry blend. But on we go!
A well rubbed, medium brown, ribbon. The moisture of my pouch was good.
The cherries are an emphatic flavour, but supporting them is a sweetness that doesn't emanate from the cherries, alone. This is one of those cherry blends where the casing is false, and quite strong, so should you be adverse to an artificial tasting cherry blend, don't bother with this. The tobaccos join together to form a mellow flavour. It burns well, but bites hard.
Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: very sweet.
Peter Stokkebye Cherry? Just ANOTHER cherry aromatic. Somewhat recommended:

Not great, just good. Not my favorite cherry blend. I just did not think it had enough cherry flavor. The tobacco was very wet. It does have tobacco flavor, which is quite good. And the cherry is not a chemical taste.

I really like this tobacco. I have been looking for a cherry tobacco that doesn't scream cherry out loud. Not too strong and not too mild. This is the first cherry I have smoked that I can smoke bowl after bowl. I like John Middleton cherry also - but I think i like this one better. It has a subtle flavor. Easy to light and keep lit. Easy on the pocket book too. I'm glad I tried it.

Upon opening my sample packet, it smelt not quite like cherries, more like if you extracted the sugar from cherries and the boiled the tobacco in it. Very sweet, and very, very mild. No prep work is required, but light tamping is necessary as this one tends to suffer pretty bad expansion in the bowl.
Its OK for a beginner, not for those looking for 'the next level' of strength or flavour, though. Room note is soft, with those sugary-cherry undertones i mentioned. Have to admit, im a bit dissapointed.

Eh.It is decent. Very pleasant with smell but the flavor is very bland. No tobacco and no casing.Just smoke. Whoppie! This is a smoke for when room note is important,and nothing else. I have a 1/4 lb left and after that I will never smoke it again.Burns hot and wet and makes smells like burning hair if left unattended.
I do not recommend it at all. It will make your room smell like cherries but It will make your mouth feel like an ashtray.

This has been a strange summer (2007) for me. There are no true pipe stores nearby and I have been trying to conserve on my "cellared" tobaccos. What this has led to is a strange fit of experimentation. One local cigar club has a selection of Stokkebye tobaccos that they have been fairly giving away. So, I decided that I would try something that SWMBO could not gripe about - Cherry.
I tried PS Cherry in a variety of pipe shapes and sizes. All performed without any goop (as I had grown to expect from aromatics) and/or wet dottle in the bottom of the bowl. The taste was pretty pronounced with a definite cherry casing and some florals that played underneath good Virginia quality and Cavendish tobacco. The taste and strength stayed constant throughout every bowl. PS Cherry did have the ability to nip at your tongue if you puffed too vigorously, but all in all, this is a very good tobacco and a better than expected smoke.

This is a pretty straightforward cavendish aromatic. It is a fairly fine ribbon cut with the occastional bit of flake which is dry in the pouch. It think it's mainly VA with a bit of burley as it is very mild. It packs and burns very well and can get a little hot. The aroma is very nice. The cherry flavoring isn't too heavy and allows some tobacco flavoring to come through. It gets a bit wet at mid-bowl, but not too bad for an aromatic. The cherry flavor isn't prominent at first, but gets a little more intense towards mid-bowl, then it becomes mainly the tast of the mild tobacco. A nice blend for a beginning smoker or when you want something to puff on which doesn't require much attention. I received this as a free sample and might buy a small amount if I see it around.
Update: Still a great cavendish with quality va tobacco shining through the flavoring. Like all cavendishes, it's a bit too mild in flavor and I sometimes end up puffing it too vigorously which leads to heat which leads to bite. If you like cavendish, though, I can't imagine any better than this. Far, far better than the cherry offerings from ALTADIS.

I picked up an ounce of this about three years ago when I was doing a survey of all of the cherry flavored tobaccos I could get my hands on, and it stood out then as the only one that seemed to be a good quality tobacco with a tasteful cherry topping, not gloopy sweet cough-syrupy stuff like 99% of the cherry blends out there. I probably smoked it once or twice, but as my tobacco endeavours progressed, however, I sort of forgot about this one until I was going through one of my many tupperware containers full of various and sundry tobaccos last night. As one of the other reviewers has mentioned, this seems to be the #1 Natural with cherry flavoring. I packed up a smallish half bent and fired up this evening and was quite favorably impressed...more so than on my original sampling years ago. There's a nice underlayment of mild Danish cavendish, and the cherry flavoring whisps in and out like a harmonic, in no way does it attempt to take center stage, rather, it nicely complements the entirety of the tobacco. No wetness was noticed at all, and the bowl progressed nicely through three or four interruptions with relights. It is not a particularly strong tobacco, but definately held off my nicotine jones until after dinner. This might not be an everyday smoke for me, but I'll definately be ordering some in bulk to jar away.
If you like, or would like to like cherry flavored tobaccos, give this a try.

The above notes state "Similair (sic) leaf selection as #1 & #2 Blends. Carefully developed through the same Cavendish Process". The notes on #1 Natural state,"A light loose and ready rubbed Cavendish blend consisting of quality mild flue-cured Virginia tobaccos with some light Burleys". So// there you have it.
An important thing to note from above is that this is not a goopy black cavendish mixture, but a brown cavendish. It has been _lightly_ sweetened, in the PS style, and the flavoring has been applied with restraint. (American blenders could learn a good deal from the Danes about this!) It is not sticky to the touch. #3 Cherry is definitely #1 natural with an aroma added.
This mixture does not sizzle when lit, a good sign IMO. The tobacco burns well without leaving a goopy dottle at the bottom of the bowl. This needs about the average number of lights for a non-goopy during the course of the bowl. The cherry aroma/flavor does last throughout the bowl (another weakness of black cav-based aromatics).
A note on the cherry flavoring: it actually has a fruity taste/aroma to it, not a cherry cough-syrup taste. It does let the admittedly mild tobacco taste come through.
All in all, another very good mild aromatic from P. Stokkebye, IMO, the best of the aromatic blenders. If you are into such stuff. In my quest for smokable cherry aromatics, this is the best of about a dozen so far, and WAY above the quality of drugstore blends.

Tin note: maraschino cherry, not much else. Slightly bitter cherry in the smoke, not sweet to speak of. Maybe hints of almond. Turns coke into cherry coke, which is kind of nice, but I would not smoke this without some sort of synergistic drink. Better cherries out there.

Middle of the road cherry aromatic. It’s not awful, but it’s nothing to write home about. I’m not gonna complain if I have to smoke it, but it’s definitely not my go to. It’s kind of an artificial cheery aroma, but there’s a creaminess that comes through from the Virginia. No cherry taste whatsoever, but the room note lingers a bit. Hasn’t bit me yet, but I wouldn’t put it past it. It’s not the cheapest tasting cherry you can get, but it’s not premium.

I picked up an ounce of this today along with the McClelland #27 and smoked two bowls, one in the car and one after the bowl of #27 and was pleasantly surprised at the mildness of the cherry topping and tobacco (thank heavens as cherry blends can incinerate ones tongue). Typical high quality Dutch Cavendish in a chunky ribbon with some flake like bits. The blend reminded me of a shredded grocery store paper bag, light shade of brown with no Black Cavendish. My B&M kept this at a perfect moisture content so it lit and burned without relights and kept the bite at a minimum. Not my favorite cherry blend but can certainly be smoked as a change of pace without too much buyers remorse IMHO.... Two stars.

Was excited to try my first ever Cherry....hmmmmm. This was disappointing. I am by no means a pipe tobacco veteran and my knowledge of various blends is limited to just four as of now, but this was underwhelming. It honestly reminded me of smoking a cheap cigar. The taste was bland and I found the aftertaste akin to licking the ashtray. I will try mixing it with something else, as I just can find much pleasure in this, and isn't that why we partake in the first place, the pleasure of it?

This blend is simply to light for me. Other than at the light, not much cherry flavor. There was no bad taste anywhere here (thus two starts; not one), so if you like very light blends, you may enjoy this. My palate just isn't sensitive enough. I envy those that can enjoy this, as many more aromatics are available to you.

This is a very nice tobacco, with a subtle cherry taste which lasts through out the smoke. Burns well, stays lit and does not bite. Great with a cup of joe in the morning. Well done Stokkebye.

I’m a fairly new pipe smoker (at it a little more than a month now, I reckon) and I’ve already decided I like aromatics a lot. I suppose that’s not terribly surprising since it seems like many new pipe smokers tend to like aromatics. This Stokkebye cherry was one of the first aromatics I purchased – picked up 2oz from the local bottle shop/cigar shop, along with another 2oz each of Stokkebye Nougat and Vanilla Crème. I had just gotten my first pipe, a Missouri Meerschaum Patriot, earlier that day (happened to be a Friday) and I wanted to get several different blends to try over the weekend while I was waiting for a for my smokingpipes.com order to arrive with other well-reviewed blends.
I got home that night, took out the Stokkebye cherry, opened the bag, and gave it a whiff. Wow. Terrible! It’s like it was soaked in some sort of low-end cherry cough syrup. Absolutely offensive odor from the bag. The Nougat and Vanilla Crème were more pleasant from the bag. I tried the cherry for the first timer later in the evening and was unable to smoke an entire bowl. The ribbons were fairly damp, so I let them air dry a bit before lighting, but it still refused to stay lit. Tamp, tamp, relight, tamp, relight… it was an exercise in futility. The taste was awful (very sickly-sweet) and the tongue bite was pretty much non-stop. If the flavor would have been the least bit enjoyable I may have soldiered on, but since everything about this Stokkebye cherry was offensive to all of the senses I decided to dump out the pipe and carry on with my life.
This is simply a terrible tobacco. I smells terrible before it’s lit, it smells terrible and has an awful flavor when it’s burning, and it’s too difficult to keep lit. I would never recommend this stuff to anyone, most certainly a new pipe smoker (lest they think all aromatics are this terrible). Thank goodness for the likes of RLP-6 and Monster Mix.

I had not smoked a cherry tobacco in quite some time so when I ran across this at a smoke shop a couple of weeks ago I picked up an oz. I've found this to be a mild smoke that doesn't seem to want to bite. The topping is not overpowering and leans a bit more to the "candied cherry" side rather than the natural.It produces a medium sweet smoke that I enjoyed while doing some outdoor chores. I think a good quality tobacco was used in crafting this blend as the cherry flavor does not mask the natural tobacco flavor. It is a fire up and forget it blend that requires no attention while smoking. It lit and burned well and left no gunk in my pipe. If you enjoy aro's you might like this. It's still a pretty good buy in my area at $2.99 per oz.

This is quite enjoyable for a cherry tobacco, although it can produce a hot smoke if care is not taken to go slow. I remedy this by mixing it with a good percentage of Peter Stokkebye Navy Flake. The result is quite enjoyable.

This blend is unpretentious and only aspires to be a basic staple. I am reminded of my very first experience smoking a pipe 25 years ago. It was a warm April night and my dad showed me his pipes and tobacco jar. I can still see the glass jar with the wooden lid. When I opened the jar there was a smell of cherry tobacco. The tobacco was probably something from the grocery store, however. He showed me, at age 13, how to pack and told me about puffing not inhaling. We were watching TV and the aroma soon filled the little room. Although he didn't stick with the pipe and I didn't pick the pipe back up for another 5 years, most of my pipe tobacco experience is based on that episode.
Anyway, the pouch aroma is what you would expect. The leaf seems a bit brighter in color than your typical Cherry Cavendish Drug Store blend. The packing is nice and it takes a match very well. If you've read the above paragraph, that is the only way my dad would attempt to light a pipe. The first thing to notice is the lack of tongue-bite. The cherry flavor is nice, but not over-powering. There is some real tobacco taste here, as well. I am not saying that this is the end-all and be-all of cherry tobaccos, but it is pretty good for the price. The flavor stays the same all the way down to the last puff. And, there is no metallic after-taste when you are finished. The Nicotine level is pretty low. The ash is, surprisingly, fine and only a little discolored. The pipe is left dry and clean. This is very unlike those typical cherry blends that peiple rightly hate. I have given it 3 stars for the way it accomplishes what it is trying to accomplish. I have had many other higher-class aromatics behave a lot worse. The aroma is one that the ladies will appreciate without you having to give too much up in taste. If you ever find yourself wanting to re-live some smoke from the past, and a lot of us got started with Cherry something, try this blend. Your tongue will not pay the price for your trip down memory lane. And, if you know a younger person that may be interested in trying the sacred weed, keep a half pound of this in a glass jar with a wooden lid. Someone may be writing about you 25 years or more from now!

i usually smoke dunhill englishes, as this is primarily what my tobacconist carries in that department, but on occassion i will venture to their jars of aromatics, and Stokkebye's cherry hit the spot.

As usual, the previous reviewers do a good job of describing this blend, although my tastes rate it a little higher than most. Personally, I like Cherry a lot. I find the flavoring light, enjoyable and consistent throughout the bowl. It packs easily and smokes well to the bottom, burning completly to a fine ash. Light, tamp and relight and you're all set. I am not a fan of Black Cavendish so the lighter Brown Cavendish is a welcome change to many of the aromatics out there. Like most Stokkebeye blends available in bulk, it is reasonably priced, which to me (retired) is a real plus. A nice, easy, change of pace smoke, which I always keep in my inventory, and smoke a bowl or two a week. If you enjoy Cherry flavored tobaccos, you should certainly give this a shot.
