I had great luck with Fairmorn's Dark Fired Shag. I received a tin of Belmore (out of production for several years now), from a seller that I regularly do business with as a bonus. Nice combination of natural tobacco flavors with a hint of Caramel. I love it!

Bought an old tin from Pipestud. It rattled when shook, which I knew going in, yet strangely the seal had not been broken (nice puff on opening it) and the leaf was at a perfect moisture level. This is a VaBer flake that has been cross-cut and mixed with some granulated Black Cavendish (according to the tin insert). It thus is mostly a cube cut, and I mean big cubes, like big pea gravel, which are a bitch to smoke--hard to light and hard to keep lit--and murder to rub out. But a couple of quick pulses in my spice mill reduced the cubes to a very workable size. Packed lightly, just a gravity fill, and Belmore fired up like a dream.

The leaf is all of high quality, as usual for Fairmorn, and the Virginia obviously was aged and matured in cakes, producing a prodigiously rich stewed-fruit aroma that carries into the taste and room note. Smells like Perique added, but there is none. My son in MBA school even volunteered that it smelled good, instead of complaining as usual. If this was all I had on a desert island, I would not complain.

I don't think there is any Oriental or Lat in this mixture, just a very high quality VaBer wit a bit of Cav. Delish.

Pipe Used: Cob, meer, large briar

Age When Smoked: 10+

Very Mild Medium Medium Pleasant

Same cut as Edgeworth Ready Rubbed, goopy as Mac Barens Mixture, same burn qualities as pure Latakia, repulsive as Royal Collection: Aristocrat from James B. Russel.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
