The Missouri Meerschaum Great Dane pipes are their take on Danish designs, so when we wanted to make a tobacco with the same name, we thought that a Danish inspired aromatic would be the best choice. This blend consists of a good portion of gently steamed black cavendish, select Virginias and some white burley, which have been topped with a smooth and rich combination of a deep, dark cherry, without the sharpness of the typical "maraschino" flavor, and warm notes of vanilla and caramel, for an easy smoking blend with a lightly sweet flavor and an amazing aroma.

I am a casual smoker. I always bought tinned tobacco, thinking those were the best smoking, I was wrong. My latest kick is corn cob pipes. I ordered a couple along with lane q1 and this. While room note is less than lq1, it Is smooth and delicate. I am smoking it now in a meerschaum pipe packed with it, great smoke. It is one of my favorites, especially when looking at price. While it smells fantastic in the pouch, the flavor and room note are not as strong.

The vanilla is mild, but consistently evident; the caramel a little less so. Cherry is the most obvious topping, though it, too, is mild and rather pleasant, and has no chemical notes. I get grass and citrus notes from the Virginia. The burley is a little earthy, woody and molasses sweet, but both tobaccos are just mildly noticeable. Has very little nicotine. The strength is mild, and the taste is a step past that mark. Won't bite. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a fairly consistent flavor. Leaves little dampness in the bowl. Has an okay after taste. The taste is rather pleasant, but this blend lacks depth in terms of flavor, and is a routine all day aromatic. Makes a very decent starter blend for a new aro smoker or one who isn't into strongly flavored mixtures. Two and a half stars.

As you might expect from the name, this is an aromatic. Upon opening the pouch, I was immediately struck by a pleasant combination of aromas that were complex, yet distinct. I got a good whiff of cherry, but not the cough-syrup type found in most cherry blends. This was more like a light cherry syrup that you would drizzle on a cheesecake. Next was a hint of some kind of cordial liqueur, maybe Amaretto or Frangelico, not too strong, but just enough. And then the main aroma of fresh, sweet Cavendish finished it off. I am not up on all the cuts, but I would call this a shag cut. It filled my little pipe and lit easily. Once it settled down to an even burn, there were wonderful nutty notes, and a great Cavendish sweetness, not too much, but just right. And the cherry flavor was right in there, not over-powering, but working with all the other flavors. The finish was a mild vanilla that lingered until the next puff. The room-note was incredible, nuts and cherry everywhere....The flavor was consistent all the way to the bottom of the bowl, and it burned evenly, cool, and no bite at all, even though I would consider this a light medium blend. One reason I seldom smoke aromatics is that they are usually too mild for me, but this was a very satisfying smoke. I was mildly sad that the smoke had finished. I think I can best describe it as tasting and smelling like Pecan Divinity with a little cherry syrup on top. The amazing thing, to me, anyway, was that the Cavendish tobacco flavor was also clearly discernible, and not covered up by the casings. This is without a doubt, the very best aromatic I have ever smoked. It would be a great after-dinner smoke.

This has some really nice flavors. The vanilla, caramel and, to a lesser extent, cherry flavors combine to create a mild and very pleasant topping. The Burley and Virginias are more evident in the first half of the bowl, the Black Cav in the second half. Very tasty and just plain ol' good. 3+ stars.
Mild to medium in body. Medium in flavor. Flavoring is mild. Burns well.

Pouch note is excellent, I noticed a couple of reviews saying the pouch note doesn't translate well into the smoke, in my opinion you couldn't be more wrong. I found the balance of flavours to be spot on, neither the caramel, vanilla nor the cherry overpower each other. Russ at P&C has done an excellent job blending this tobacco. No chemical taste and no tongue bite even when you put your tongue up close to the lip of the pipe. Only one relight through the duration of the bowl, pity I picked a smallish to medium bowl sized pipe to try it and pity I only ordered 2 pouches. This is an excellent blend at an excellent price. This will stay in my rotation for sure. Highly recommend you try Great Dane. Can't wait for them to sell it in larger pouches as is the plan according to Russ

Being a new pipe smoker at 64, I went a little crazy with buying pipes and tobaccos. Spent 4 months reading every article, video, review etc...
Spent way too much money on it all but the best one of all for me was Great Dane. I really like SOME of the others of the 20 blends I purchased. Hooked on nicotine since age 15, I didn't know what I was looking for. Nicotine? Flavor? I almost gave up but found 2 items that cinched the deal for me. Corn cobs and Great Dane. All the reviews on Great Dane about cherry, vanilla, black cavendish, burley, I read about and kind of understand the different preparations and such but once I learned how to smoke a pipe and discovered Great Dane (and to some extent, Dunhill Mixture 965), I really think I'm ready to give up dip, and vaping. GD has a full satisfying strength and flavor that I found very satisfying. It was not like any other aromatics I've tried and I didn't realize it was one until I read some of these reviews. Now, I'm having a hard time deciding how to use all these others I have when GD has provided all that I was looking for. 4 star all the way for me ... but what do I know? I know it's good for me ... and my wife enjoys the aroma. It's a WIN WIN.

This blend has the best pouch note I have ever smelled. I wanted to eat it. It smells of warm caramels, light vanilla, some mild cherry, cocoa, and perhaps a touch of rum or bourbon. Absolutely delicious smelling. As far as smoking it goes, I enjoy it. It doesnt taste as good as it smells but to me the caramel flavor comes through wonderfully and the light cherry as well as nutty notes, when sipped, it is an extremely pleasant and mild but full bodied smoke. No tongue bite for me, and I tend to puff. I really like this blend and will keep a pouch on hand.

Upon opening the pouch, you're greeted with the absolutely delicious fragrance of dried fruits and a really great, deep cherry aroma. However, none of the pouch note's virtues or complexities transfer to the smoke. The blend advertises myriad flavors, including Cavendish, cherry, and vanilla. I tasted Burley and...well, Burley, mostly. There's just the faintest whisper of cherry, most of which lingers on the palette rather than being detectable in the smoke itself. I'm a Burleyphile, but the closest I get to enjoying this blend comes at some point halfway through the bowl, when the tart Virginias really start to come into play. Yet I was always left with the feeling that this blend took the first steps toward going somewhere and abruptly fizzled. Like the flavor, the room note just sort of existed. Nobody found it either pleasant or offensive.
That said, it gets points for not being disgusting, but I can't imagine ever finding myself in the mood to smoke this again. I'm probably going to use the remainder of the pouch to experiment on other aromatics of which I'm not particularly fond. If you want a very mild and simple smoke suitable for any time of day, you'll probably find this blend much to your liking. If you're seeking any semblance of complexity or a cherry aromatic that actually tastes like cherry, you'll be better served by looking elsewhere.

This not-so-manly-sounding Aromatic is precisely the kind of awful-type of blend (i.e. cherries, cream and nonsense) that may well turn-off a neophyte by the chemical taste and strong car-odorizer smell—EXCEPT that this is the Unicorn of all cherry tobaccos!
Man is it AMAZING!
Delicious and creamy, tastes like real maraschino cherries, not cherry syrup, and this sort of golden caramel and vanilla thing starts to fill the room in midway through the bowl.
Wives/girlfriends/daughters/ and the general public LOVE this blend because it smells like a bakeshop. The base of Virginias, Cavendish and probably a bit of Burley, is pretty tasty on its own.
A fantastic and fun smoke for when people are around.

This one seemed to have all the components for a first class aromatic, but it fell short. When you open the pouch, there is more of a smell of Virginia and some sweetness. The moisture level is about right, though some would say it needs a little dry time. The cut is rough and it packs easily. The taste is more grassy Virginia than your typical Black Cavendish aromatic. Maybe the is a Danish thing. The taste is very mild and the nicotine level seems to be very low. The room note does not meet with the wife's approval. While there is some sweetness, most of the flavors are too subtle to be noticed. I think this tobacco was going for balance and simply did not use enough to make a flavorful smoke. I cannot really recommend this tobacco, especially for what the pouch costs. It is not super expensive, but at the same price point you can do a lot better. I love MM products and this one just did not make the cut. It is not bad. It is not wonderful. It just wasn't.

This is my first review on a tobacco since i am fairly new to the pipesmoking game, so bare with me here. I have been smoking pipes on and off for the last couple of years but only got serious about it a couple of months ago. I decided to order some tobacco online on Smokingpipes.com and saw this one pop-up in the process and thought by myself "why not?".
The Missouri Meerschaum Company is renowned for its fairly priced but reliable corn cob pipes and i thought this tobacco might have the same philosophy behind it. And...My faith in it being so was rewarded! After smoking one pouch of it i can honestly say that this has been the first aromatic i truly love. After i finished the first pouch i even went so far as to order two more (and with that also a pouch of Missouri Pride and American Patriot). Hell, I am even smoking it as i am writing this review.
The pouch description reads "A deep, sweet Cavendish blend with notes of dark cherry and fragrant vanilla." It is made in the USA by the Scandinavian Tobacco Group Lane Ltd and is blended with the help of a certain Russ Ouellette (that name didnt ring a bell with me but I have been made to understand that he is a great blender).
Upon opening the pouch (they are not sealed for some reason) you directly get a wiff of cherries but not in a way that it is overwhelming or chemical. I can also make out the canvedish and an actual tobacco smell.
The smoke is great and tastes exactly like it smells. Cherries, vanilla and tobacco. It is very well balanced in my opinion and like i said before the cherry topping does not strike me as chemical but rather comes over as if there are actual dried cherries in there. Its burns nice and even to a nice white ash and doesnt bite.
The room note is very mild and pleasant. The girlfriend likes it so that is always a plus!
All in all this is a great smoke that could easily be (and has been in my case) an all-day smoke or a nice beginners tobacco. Definitly one of the best aromatics out there in my opinion and like MM's cobs, fairly priced and of great quality.
What more do you need?

This one is just too artificial cherry for me. I guess I have simply found that I do not care for Cherry aromatics. Any other fruit is good apparently but haven't found a cherry I can tolerate... this one is no different. Medicinal cherry is all I can taste on the exhale and it even left a cherry ghost in my pipe. Sorry guys, but there are way better aromatics out there.. even cherry ones. This one is a goopy, nothing-special over the counter blend IMO. Maybe the previous version was better? This review is for the STG pouch. The room note to me is akin to gas station cherry incense.
It's alright maybe if you like cherry but there are much better Cherry Vanilla aromatics out there like G&H Cherry Vanilla and Sam Gawith Celtic Talisman.

After a long wait, I ordered 6 pouches. I regret that now, as it has changed. Now an STG product, it tastes uncomfortably close to Dark Red and CultBRM. I first thought it was an improvement, but my older Meier & Dutch version in the clear wrapper is superior. Precisely for being not as smooth and with a tad more nicotine and a recognizable Scandinavian footprint. This version is just corporate smooth and sadly has devolved into an also ran in a crowded field.

Missouri Meerschaum - Great Dane.
In the pouch's aroma the cherry takes a lead over the other toppings. The pieces making up the mixture are all of a manageable size, medium and chunky ribbons, with a good hydration.
The smoke from it's ok, but a touch mundane after a while. The toppings all have their say, fluctuating throughout a bowl. I find the vanilla stronger at first light, subsiding somewhat and giving way to more of the caramel/cherry. Although the cherry's a notable flavour, it doesn't become too fragrant, acidic or sour. The burn from it's good, giving a cool smoke.
Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: nice.

This is a good but not great aromatic. Mild cherry notes with some vanilla in the background, smokes cool, can taste the Va, did not bite. I did not find it to be redolent of chemicals like other cherry aros but also not as flavorful and smooth as a better quality blend (thinking or KBY Dark Fired Cherry). Not goopy. Burned very well and moisture level was pretty much spot on. I enjoy smoking it and it has an occasional place in my rotation. 2.5 stars.

Beginning: Out of the pouch, this stuff smells FOUL. Like cherry laffy-taffy and chocolate flavored protein powder had a baby. It’s horrendous.
Middle: Smoke is nice. Room note pleasant enough, more subdued cherry note on the palate and now you can actually taste the vanilla in there too.
End: After that initial fruity, cocoa note, it fades quickly into a lighter burley leaf taste. Reminiscent of Carter Hall if there ever was a cherry edition.
This is for: Beginners? Not really for anyone to tell you the truth.
This is not for: Aromatic lovers. There are much better offerings out there at a similar price point.

I'm impressed! This is everything you want in a "go to" aromatic. upon opening the pouch you get a top note of cherry vanilla, but mild. The tobacco is perfectly moist out of the bag. A very enjoyable and cool smoke. The Cherry is not a top note, but present throughout and subtle caramel notes emerge throughout the smoke. It was so good, I had to smoke another bowl out of another pipe that day. After taste and day after taste was present, but it was a pleasant memory on the palette of an exceptional smoke. As a relative "returning pipe smoker", I recommend Great Dane to all new pipers looking for a cool aromatic without the overwhelming top notes of flavoring.

I'm a little torn about the rating I've given this one. It's not a bad tobacco if you compare it to others in its class, meaning other cherry based aromatics. Still, I just am not really a fan. I ordered this along with some other pouches in a P&C special. I regret choosing this tobacco, the MM American Patriot was pretty good, though and I was pleasantly surprised by Amphora Full Aroma and by Carter Hall and Prince Albert.
I suppose part of my disappointment with this tobacco is not entirely knowing my tastes. I know that I hate Old Joe Krantz, and assumed that Burley wasn't my thing. I've now found several non-aromatic Burleys that I'm really enjoying, PA and CH have become go-to tobaccos for me. Nightcap gave me a run for my money on my first bowl (it's now become a staple) so I assumed I wasn't a Latakia fan. As OJK and various others have shown, Perique was what I was having some difficulty with and Latakia may as well be manna from heaven. All I knew about my preferences was that I love Early Morning Pipe and other English blends and have enjoyed some fruit aromatics from time to time. I just assumed that as a relatively inexperienced pipe smoker and recovering cigarette smoker that I would enjoy aromatics more than truer tobaccos. This has not been borne out in practice.
Well, back from the digression, this is a fine aromatic when compared to others like it. But, there is almost no discernable tobacco flavor since the bulk of the blend is cased black and blonde Cavendish. The cherry flavor is very mild in all but the bag note, it really doesn't show up sidestream or in retrohale. The vanilla note is much more prominent than the cherry. Honestly, the cherry is so mild this could work as a superior replacement for Lane BCA or other bulk vanilla tobaccos. It is good quality leaf and I think Russ Ouelette has done a fine job. It's typical Lane casings and tobacco so it should be familiar to most in some ways.
I'll smoke the rest of this pouch as I've yet to toss any tobaccos. It might be an option for smoking in public as the room note was nice. I'd rate it a 2.5 if that was possible but it's not in the 75th percentile of tobaccos, so 2 stars it is. And it does qualify as something I'd somewhat recommend.

Ok, I'm going to put this out there that's obvious to the veteran pipe smokers out there familiar with his work. Russ Ouellette has created something special with this Missouri Meerschaum tobacco line. Each one provides a great and distinct smoke. They make for great starter tobaccos or those just graduating from starter and also for those who don't want something heavy in nicotine.
First off, Great Dane, is the best smelling aromatic out of the bag. Full stop. It smells like sweet candy - caramel, cherries, and vanilla. Now, at this point people are going to say, "Ok, what about the tongue bite?". I did not experience any. Now, any aromatic doesn't always taste like it smells. THIS blend, however, delivers a sweet smoke that doesn't bit and produces nice, thick, white smoke.
Absolutely great blend. If you like aros, try this one.

This is without a doubt the best Tobacco I can find for an everyday all around smoke. I've tried everything from Stanwell to W.O. Larsen and I have yet to find one that smokes like this one. You can smoke it hot, cool, slow, or burn it like a smoke stack and it never makes you feel like you had Kerosene poured in your mouth- No "bite", not overpowering, just the right "tang", taste, and burns to the bottom of the bowl. I know I'm not the only one that likes this one due to the fact that everyone I've bought it from is out and has been out for weeks! ( If you know where I can buy some let me know PLEASE!! ) Every pipe style and type I've smoked this one in is the same-Just an all around great Tobacco.

As someone who often drinks maraschino liquor and uses the cherries in cocktails, I must say that Missouri Meerschaum did a rather good job capturing that flavour. It is not overly sweet and the cherry tastes natural (it's always a risk to end up on the cough syrup spectrum). The vanilla and caramel notes aid in capturing the essence of maraschino. It smokes smoothly straight out of the pouch, and needs little drying. No bite, just delight.
This is a 3 for me, but could be a 4 for others.

Bag note mainly comes across as cocoa, chocolate to me. Flavor, I get some vanilla, cream, maybe a little cherry. Some sort of chocolate-based baked good. Can't say I get any sort of tobacco character. A very "dirty" tobacco, wet and leaves a lot of residue on the bowl and my fingers. Very good for what it is; I don't want to have dessert for every smoke, but I'm glad to have such a great option.

I agree with those that say the pouch note doesn't match with taste or room note, both of which I felt were much better than what I picked up in the pouch. I found the pouch note to be a little off-putting, The moisture level was good and It packed easily. Lights well and was pretty easy to keep going. The taste was reminiscent of Paladin Black Cherry, or at least what PBC should be (no bite, no harshness). A mild blend that would be well suited for an all-day smoke.

I received a pouch of Great Dane with my MM IPSD2021 set. It didn't have the outer plastic wrap, so I decided to smoke some and jar the rest. Since I got 4 new cobs with the set I decided to dedicate one of them to this blend.
It's a decent cherry aromatic. Has a good cherry note to it, not cough syrup. The tobacco was moist and can use a little drying before smoking. When loaded, it lit easily and the smoke is similar to other cherry tobaccos (Casey Jones, etc..) It produces a nice roomnote and non-smokers will like it.
