With all the cherry blends on the market, and I’ve tried most of them in my exhaustive quest to find the perfect cherry, this is by far the superior blend. After smoking this tobacco it became clear to me that McClelland had developed the definitive formula of cherry casing that sets it apart from the rest. The room note is delightful and it burns evenly with virtually no relights. I cannot recommend this blend highly enough. Hooray, my search is finally over!

The black cherry notes are faint, but the maraschino is nicely mild. The lemon Virginia is noticeable, though I don't get the usual citrus from it. I sense a minute grassiness. The black cavendish sports a slight hint of vanilla. Has little nicotine. Burns at a reasonable pace, though I would not puff it fast. It'll burn a bit warm, and you'll lose some of the flavor. Won't bite. Leaves some moisture in the bowl, and needs a few relights. Has a short lived after taste. The mildness makes it a decent starter cherry blend, and ought to please smokers who do not want a cherry bomb.

Let me start out by saying that I am predominantly a Virginia and Oriental kind of guy, but I like to smoke light aromatics from time to time in a pipe dedicated to flavored blends. I was looking for something that didn't overwhelm the senses, goop up my pipe and pulverize my tongue and in this blend, I've found a good balance between the casing and the tobacco.
At the top of the bowl, you can really taste the cherry flavor and, as you get more towards the bottom of the bowl, it opens up into a stronger tobacco flavor with the cherry delicately balanced on top. This produces thick clouds of smoke that everyone in the room will enjoy. To me, the triple cherry is broken up into the three sections of the bowl. The sweet cherry is at the top, the black cherry in the middle and the more sour cherry flavor at the bottom.
NOTE: This WILL bite if smoked quickly! Your best bet is to puff gently and let the tobacco dictate the pace. If you smoke this correctly, you'll not be disappointed or knocked out by overcasing. It burns to a clean ash with very little moisture in the bottom.
This is a good Friday smoke in a week otherwise dominated by Virginia and Oriental blends. Kudos to McClelland for giving us something better than the drugstore blend in cherry flavor!

I have always wanted to find a cherry blend that I could tolerate, this might be it. The blend does not have the syrup taste that most have, but a real nutty cherry taste. There is a fair bit of real tobacco taste too!!! The tobacco is still wet like most aromatics, but not as wet as most. The tobacco can bite a bit if smoked to fast. The tin (bag) and room note are to die for. That is my only reason to smoke this stuff. The wife, family and friends will love this blend which makes up for most of its shortcomings.

Between being a lover of all things McClelland, and enjoying the occassional aromatic, I was completely surprised by how much I disliked this tobacco. Maybe my expectations were too high... I tried this tobacco in a number of different pipes, using a number of different packing methods, and smoking at different tempos. I tried, I really tried!
Ultimately, the tobacco smells nice in the pouch, packs easily, lights fairly well, burns really well, and tastes like steamy air passing across a cherry scented car air freshener.
I won't say that I never come across tobaccos that I won't finish, however, it certainly isn't a frequent occurence. In this case, there are 3oz of fresh three cherries blend looking for a new home.
I realize I am the only 1 star rating thus far. I hope that I just recieved a bad batch, but I won't be reordering to find out. I'll stick with Iwan Ries 3-Star China Black Fire Cured as my top aromatic tobacco for now.
Stogie rating of 1 terrible Te-Amo
Not recommended.

I have only been smoking a pipe just now two years. I haven't tried a ton of blends but I have tried a fair amount for a "newer" smoker. I love Tobacco period and haven't restrained myself to a couple blends, I will literally try everything, I just have a very open mind when it comes to that.Have been enjoying a few Vapers,English's, and here lately a few more aromatics. I have tried about 10-12 different cherry aromatics and for me this is my absolute favorite.Great tin note, great room note, very nice cherry flavoring that isn't too sweet or overpowering and no chemical taste at all which I have experienced with a few other cherry aromatics. For me this is a good balance of light cherry flavor and light but good tasting tobacco. I would definitely recommend this to any beginner or person that enjoys the occasional aromatic.Didnt experience any tongue bite even when I pushed my cadence to far quicker than normal.Even if you don't care about my opinion then do yourself a favor and just order an ounce to try, I highly doubt you will be disappointed!

Oh Boy, I get to be the first to review this product! Three Cherry Blend represents one of many steps I have taken along the road to finding the ideal cherry blend. Some are too flavored, and some, like Three Cherry Blend, are not enough. Somewhere out there is Baby Bear's blend- just right.
This is a typical offering from the McClelland's Bulk American Aromatics series. It purportedly consists of lemon virginias and black cavendish. If that is indeed the case then the virginias are on the brown side and so is the "black cavendish". Going from visual appearances, the virginia component dominates. The cut of this tobacco is a combination of ribbon with a sprinkling of well broken flake. My half pound arrived in beautiful condition, not sticky and not over-moist. (Note that a certain unnamed internet tobacco dealer sells 1/2 lbs for about 60% of the cost of a 1/4 lb. Is this intentional? If not, I hope they do not wise up!)
There was also a notable lack of cherry aroma, which was why I bought it in the first place. So, that was kind of a let down. I stuffed most of it into a quart jar and let it sit for about a month. Upon subsequently opening, I got a better cherry aroma, though still not quite what I was hoping for.
So... How does it smoke? Well, upon initial light, I would have to say that there is a hint of a cherry taste, just a tad underwhelming, but definitely there. There is a bit of added sweetness as well, but nothing like a drug-store cherry blend. The smoke retains a hint of cherry in the background throughout most of the bowl, and behaves well near the end, with just a bit of somewhat oily dottle. Gurgle has not been a problem.
The room aroma is less that of an aromatic cavendish than a virginia with a whiff of fruit. This is not one that pleases my wife, though admittedly she is picky.
The tobacco experience overall is quite satisfactory but not distinguishing. McC clearly did not overdo it on flavoring/sweetening this one. To someone looking for a virginia with a hint of aroma, this is probably just the ticket. I will continue to come back to this (heck, I have a 1/2 lb to smoke up) but shall continue my search for the ideal cherry aromatic.

McClelland - No. M-27 Three Cherry Blend.
The majority of the blend appears as a well rubbed ribbon, it's the lesser amount of Black Cavendish that has a coarser appearance. The blend looks about 25% Black Cavendish. Moisture's good.
I struggle to differentiate between the three types of cherry, but generically speaking the topping tastes truer to cherries, rather than like cheap sweets. The initial flavour's a lot sweeter than once the burn's settled down. From then on I note a sour/bitter top note; true to cherries. Because the topping isn't heavy it allows the tobaccos to come through: a lot more flavour from the Virginia, than Black Cav'. The temperature creeps above medium if the pipe's chugged, and it needs very few re-lights.
Nicotine: mild. Room-note: lovely.
It's a well made blend, but not one I'd add to my rotation. Somewhat recommended:
Two stars.

Wow!!! What a nice change of pace in cherry aromatics! Opening the bag, I caught a nice whiff of cherry, not too heavy, riding on a base of good Virginia tobacco. A little sweet, but light and pleasant. The tobacco was ribbon cut and packed nicely. The texture was thick and moist, not flaky or oily. The tobacco lit easily and burned all the way down in one light. Glorious clouds of smoke on lighting. Immediate pleasant hit of sweet cherry flavor and golden Virginia. I was surprised that the flavor did change a bit as the bowl progressed and that I could detect all three cherry flavors: there were areas of pure sweetness contrasted with others like rich fermented maraschino and more rarely, tart black cherry. Nothing overpowering, just balanced and thoroughly enjoyable.
There was a light pleasant cherry smell over the Virginia, very true to the pouch aroma. I certainly recommend Three Cherry Blend. It's a complex, subtle and pleasing smoke for cherry aromatic lovers to have on hand.

Bought a one ounce sample of this not expecting to like it and I didn't. The flavoring to me was terrible and it never seemed to relent. It was incredibly artificial tasting to me. I don't inhale a pipe so I didn't think I would ever really deal with the throat irritation that some people claim, but this blend does goofy things to both my throat and my sinuses. whatever it is does not agree with me and no other blend I have smoked does this to me. I suppose this taste better than the store brand Cherry cavendish I threw out a long time ago, but not enough for me to even consider another star.
I am not sure I will even try another cherry flavored blend, but I can't see my rating for this getting any higher and I definitely won't repurchase.

This is a great cherry smoke for all day or indoor with family and friends. Did not seem to bite. Aroma and taste continue all through the bowl. Does not have a cheap artificial cherry aroma like the drug store brands. The cherry aroma in this blend is full and natural. I could not stop at one bowl. I had three in my meerschaum. Very tasty and pleasant aroma. If you are looking for a good cherry blend try this one.

A lovely blend of light, thin, red tobacco ribbons beautifully married with dark, thick cut, rich and heavy tobacco. Only a few examples exist of such diverse tobaccos blended and matured together perfectly, and this is one.
Its surprising ready to smoke despite the clear level of care and attention that was paid to blending. The pouch scent is sweet and rich with distinct cherry affluence, almost too sweet for my liking. Darker notes prevail over the lights, a good sign in my mind. A very light hint of liquer lingers on the palate.
The smoke is smooth and provides an exceptional room note that reminds me of times when things were built properly. Easy to enjoy, hard to savour, and of course, very cherry. A christmas winner, i feel. Mild to medium nicotine content.

This is based on a 4 oz bulk sample smoked over the course of a couple of months. That in itself should indicate this has not be a go to blend that I just have to have more of. It is a mild smoke and I got no noticeable Nic hit from it. Despite the light topping, the tobacco flavor is very mild too. The VA's should be a little more dominate in this blend than they are but I can still tell I am smoking tobacco which is a good thing. The casing is light with just a hint of sweet cherry at the match. Soon the Duke cherries, which are tart seem to take over and the tartness plays with the sweetness which is very good. Now, if it had stopped progressing at this point it would be my go to cherry blend. However, about mid-bowl the tartness becomes bitter. It is a bitterness that hits the center of the tongue and runs its length. The smoke begins to bite a little no matter how slow and light I puff. I do still get some sweetness but the bitter after taste lingers. While the blend smokes pretty dry overall some moisture did start to build and the bitterness continued until I toss the last 1/4 of the bowl. The last oz or so I just smoked the first 1/2 and tossed the rest and it was a very enjoyable smoke but I hate tossing 1/2 of a bowl. Overall a blend that if you are looking for cherry should be tried but it is far from ideal for me. I will not revisit personally but it has good points worth checking out if you are into cherry aros.

So, when you buy something called "three cherry blend" you are not searching for any thrill or subtlety, it is a direct in your face cherry puff with no other contours or dynamics. It is a conservative experience. So I guess the creation of blends such as these is like the inner wish of smoking cherries out of the tree, kinda surreal, but that is the more close definition I could handle to substract to exemplarize the experience. It is a monochromatic world with a distant resemble of tobacco in where you will only find all the possible tonalities given by the cherry topings added, that is all the deal, a rollercoaster in cherry land. Some more fruity, some mature, some stronger, some sweeter than others as long as the experience proceeds.
The first puffs allow you to perceive the sweeter taste, mild and fruity, mild room aroma, along the middle it becomes a variant of mature and more acidic cherry taste with notes of fresh berries, in the end there is the more defined taste of tobacco with undertones of cherry and black currant. It burns slow and tends to consume fast, so you have to smoke it slow.
Ideal as an after meal along with your plus cafe in a not so hot day and even if the room note is pleasant, it is as much as everything else one dimensional, apt for kids and children. I guess I still have part of this child like spirit in me if I bought this, but I guess I want something more subtle and polifacetic that this ultra conservative experience. Perfect blend for a novice or a reincarnation of Dali.

Next to Pipeworks Cherry Cavendish, this is the best Cherry blend i have had as far as bulk Cherry blends go. No bite or gurgle. String cut no hassle lighting, excellent to break in a new pipe as the high sugar content builds a cake fast and the cherry flavor masks any harshness a new pipe creates. Good quality tobacco from McClelland and price to boot.

My first foray into "Cherry" tobacco.
It smells like a can of merachino cherries, and gives off a similar room note. I taste a bit of tobacco, but mostly cherries. It's more aroma than flavoring though. Good for if you have anti-tobacco company over, or for a change of pace.

I find the cherry flavor to be fairly subtle on this blend (to me it's more like a "hint of cherry"). Overall, it's a pleasant, mild to medium tobacco, with very little bite. I got a pound of it the last time I ordered; I probably won't buy that much at one time again, but I'll keep it on my list to buy from time to time. If you like a cherry-flavored tobacco, and have found the flavor of most of them overpowering or too sweet, this might be the right blend for you.

Very nice aromatic, not too heavily cased and does taste like cherry all the way through. This blend would be a great change of pace if you are looking for a sweet hit. Unlike many of the aromatics that I have tried, it burns to a nice grey ash and does not bite, though does burn a little hot if you're not careful. Nicotine is minimal. Room note is pleasant. This tobacco has my favourite pouch scent of all the tobaccos I've yet tried. It's a very fine cut ribbon, which leads to a slightly different smoking experience that the thicker cut ribbons I'm used to. A very nice even smoke, pleasant but not spectacular. I'm satisfied with it. I'll come back and amend this review once I've tried other cherry aromatics.

This is as good as any when it comes to cherry blends. I don't normally smoke these but a buddy of mine had some of this and Macbaren coconut and I decided to see how they were. I have to say, in a corn cob this is a great fishing smoke. Cheap and with good burning qualities, I seem to detect a burley heaviness here that is quite pleasant. Much better than the drug store varities.

As I’ve gone on in the pipesmoking hobby, I’ve found myself smoking fewer and fewer aromatics, with more and more time between the smokes. I still, honestly, don’t harbor that antipathy towards aromatics, and consider myself an omnivorous smoker— I’ll try anything once, and I’ll never swear off an entire genre altogether. But I have simply found enough satisfaction in the other types of tobacco I like— Virginias, Englishes, burleys— that I don’t miss aromatics when I don’t smoke them, and I haven’t bought an aromatic tobacco in a long while.
However, a few months ago, I was visiting with some friends— wonderful, hospitable people, generous with their time, their home, their food, and their pipe tobacco. Over a bowlful, I had been lamenting McClelland’s demise and the father gifted me with about an ounce and a half of Three Cherry.
Trying an small sample of it tonight. I have no idea how much age this has on it, so that bears on this review. Scent from the bag is mild to nonexistent, and moisture is high. It packs, lights and burns without much fuss and also without much flavor. A little sweetness, a little fruitiness, and most intriguingly, a little doughy breadiness. Almost like a cherry pie experience that throws in the pastry crust. It does have a drying, bitey effect that doesn’t abate no matter how charily you puff. It dries out my nostrils and makes me sneeze. I can’t retrohale this one. No nicotine effect to speak of.
The flavors, though mild, are very pleasant. So is the room note. That’s about it. If you like aromatics, you’ll like this one. If you like cherry aromatics, this one is a lot better than most of the ones I’ve tried. Of course, being as this is no longer in production, you might be out of luck. I won’t miss this small sample when it’s gone, but I’m happy to have been able to try it.

My favorite cherry blend by far. The cherry topings are done right. They taste and smell of real cherries, not fake manufactured chemicals. The tobacco is high quality, and there is a decent tobacco taste here, not just toppings.
It comes very moist, and could benefit from a little drying, otherwise it will leave the bottom of the bowl soaked. If you are looking for the "go to" cherry blend, this is it.

Since my pipe smoking is relatively new, I wanted to find a cherry blend to round out my still growing collection. I have been happy with other McClellend blends so gave this one a go. It light fairly easy and burns well enough, and finished with some ash and a bit of dottle. The taste was delightful, with the cherry flavor coming through quite well, and with side notes of rasins, red wine and a hint of molasses. All in all, I really like this and intend on keeping it on hand.
