A light, fresh tobacco with a satisfying sweetness, this very flavorful mixture of lemon and Orange Virginias is rounded with our special Black Ribbon and flavored with a delicate tropical dressing.
A very mild tobacco with interesting compound aroma and taste of sandal wood, orange, lemon and red grapefruit. Pleasant sweetness and almost no tar and no bitterness.
To me, Tropical is a very pleasant blend. It seems to hve a plethora of pleasant notes, none of which are overpowering. It is a light breezy semi aromatic smoke with some character. It burns cools and I did not notice an excessive amount of goop towards the bottom of the bowl. All in all I can smoke it everyday, perhaps with something heavier ats a nightcap.
A pleasant fruity aromatic - not overpowering but gives you the sense of a satisfying smoke drawn from tropical climes. Reminds me of Thompson Cigar Company's "Orange Blossom," but does not approach Abenaki's "TS-01 Tropical Splendor" which for my taste is a four star (**) undertaking. If this McClelland aro mixture had a bit more tropical spice dressing it would certainly approach the excellence of Abenaki's superior Tropical Splendor. But I'll certainly be puffing this one as summer temperatures approach or on my next visit to the equatorial latitudes. Worth stocking up for. Happy Hunting!
This blend is an aromatic lovers dream. It is mild, has a pleasant room note, and does not bite even if you smoke it too fast! It arrives with a proper moisture level, lights easily, and stays lit for a surprising length of time. The "fruit" aroma is even, gentle, somewhat delicate, and does not overwhelm the true tobacco taste. It burns cool, evenly, and to a consistent white ash. It packs easily and is an amazingly cool and pleasant smoke throughout the entire bowl. On a hot summer day, this "tropical" blend of orange and lemon virginias and black ribbon tobaccos is an ideal choice. Great for the aromatic lover, beginner, victums of tongue bite, or just for a refreshing change of pace. I smoke this on a regular basis - especially during the summer months - and I recommend it highly.
I cannot report as favorably as the previous reviewer about this blend. I found it too moist, or at least too much humectant. There was not much of a "tropical" taste either, though it was plenty sweet. It also had bite potential, IMO.
I have tried several McC aromatics and they can be classified in two general classes: 1) understated aromatics like Three-Cherry Blend with little topping/casing, and, 2) those with a lot of Black Cavendish that are goopy, sticky (bad sign), and sizzle when first lit(a very bad sign). Unfortunately, #100 Tropical falls into the latter category.
I will say that I did not have as much problem getting and keeping this lit, and it does have an OK room note. And, the price is right, I guess. Just not much to get excited about. I will smoke my 4 oz over the next few yrs, but will not replace it when it is gone.
Ah, yes, I should mention that if you have a meerschaum dedicated to aromatics, this is the way to best smoke this blend.
