I've only smoked a few bowls of this. My friend bought this blend, I just kept sampling...I don't think he liked it. The first few puffs are weird. The taste is bitter and soapy. Fortunately, it settles down and turns into something sweet. The flavor is more sweet and nutty rather than a chocolate. At times it has a cocoa flavor but it comes and goes. It does have a great room note, both the smell in the bag and the smell in the smoke are equally pleasant. All in all this is a good blend, somewhat unique for its properties. On the other hand, it does have a goopy sugar character to it, which is not all that uncommon. I recommend for coloring a meer.
A decent chocolate topping with a little vanilla from the black cavendish keeps this from being a totally one dimensional mixture. I did detect a nutty, earthy burley note or two along the way, but I almost had to look for it. Same goes for the grassy Virginia, which forms the base of the blend. Can be bitey if pushed. Has almost no nicotine. Burns at a reasonable pace with a consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has an okay after taste. I would not classify this as an all day smoke.
I tried this recently on a trip to Alabama. It is a good starting point for chocolate flavored blends. It is not nearly as strong as MacBaren's Honey and Chocolate, nor as sweet as House of Windsor Chocolate Cream. The only bad side is that is not easy to pack or keep lit. It is impossible to draw on using a filtered pipe, but does ok in a non-filtered.
Good, very pleasant. Not much bite at all. Smells good in the pouch, and has a good taste in the pipe. First few draws, and you will get a little, what the heck is this, taste. Then the flavor comes out, not strong. Just right. Good smoke all around. Will buy again.
Bought 1 ounce just to try it out at the Tacoma Tinderbox, nice people there. Sniffed the bag, smelled ok, so loaded up the pipe. First couple of puffs was like, yuk. Then another, and it was ok, after that it was not bad at all. But not much flavor. No taste of chocolate at all. More like a strong Cavendish. But smoked great, stayed lit, smoked all the way down, no bite at all. Will I buy it again, yah, maybe. Good all around smoke. Very dry pipe when finished.
