Translated from the description online: "Only the best Virginias, with natural casing... pure and unadulterated Tobacco taste..."

One very long, thinly sliced beautiful flake (about 2.5 inches wide) folded into the tin, very light birds eyes in a mottled mixture of light, middle and, to a lesser degreee, dark Va's.

This tin is from October, 2007.

Tin note: sweet fruitiness from casing (honey? peaches?) with grass, hay, light sourness/fermentation, faint earthiness.

Rubs out to a fine ribbon, or shag, cut, reminiscent of Capstan and other English flakes of the past, yet not as moist as many. Very easy to work into the pipe.

Not overly moist, lights and burns well directly from freshly opened tin.

First light: no overt flavor from the casing; unmistakable Virginias: hay, earth, tangy with a backbone of tannins, a hint of tar, and appetizing sweetness... Very fine English style flake.

Second third: developing in depth, some toastiness, cereal, nutty, creamy, with a few darker elements emerging, less tang, more herbal, yet with a subtle buttery or nutty sweetness. The various elements merge as the smoke calms down and settles in for the stretch.

All in all: invigorating, bracing, definitely tangy for the first third becoming a smoothly herbal and nutty smoke with mainly mid and high notes leaving a clean and slightly sweet aftertast. TH No. 2 burns evenly and exceptionally well producing little moisture and requiring minimal to no maintenance. If these are your flavors this just might be a fine and easy all day smoke for you. It is a welcome change of pace for me, albeit an occasional smoke (about a tin/year). Reminiscent of the Fribourg & Treyer offerings, Tullagreme House No. 2 is a very respectable, no-nonsense tobacco in the English tradition with many excellent attributes. Certainly one worth trying! And, as Magne Falkum suggests, it does go very well with a drop of Riesling.

Moderate nicotine.

All day or change of pace.

Ages well.
