The Virginias are a little grassy, sweet and tangy while the burley has a mild molasses and nutty hit. The black cavendish offers a richness of vanilla. The rum is rich and lightly spicy, and the additional fruit toppings are very tasty. This is one of the best BR blends I've ever smoked as of this date, so why do I give it only two stars? It's because of the inherent tongue bite. I am a slow puffer and rarely have that problem, but the black cavendish and, I suppose, the way BR products are usually produced, are close to giving me that ol' bite that this company's blends always do. Sipped slow and carefully, maybe you can avoid the bite. If you're a fast or even moderate puffer, expect the bite. Deserves two and a half stars, but not quite three because you have to work to sip it if you want to enjoy it, and as it takes that kind of effort, I can't award a full third star. However, if you take my advice, you'll probably enjoy the flavor, though not the bite. Has a very mild nic-hit. Leaves little moisture in the bowl.

Very good smoking tobacco. Good character, not to strong blended with the Trinidad Rum flavour. Very cool smoking. easy to fill (because of the handrubbed flake parts). I've got it in the 100 gram thin, so it was good to store more than 1 month while smoking.

Intro: Well- there are good and really bad blend from Borkum Riff... Its a really classy Brand, well renowend in switzerland and other european countries. The last time i smoked BR Bourbon Whiskey it was terrible. Gasstation Tobacco. But I was drunken and full satisfied from single malt, I decided to buy a tin of Borkum Riff Limited Edition 2013, No 11 Trinidad Rum. Tin: Opening the tin, a flush of fruitiness and rum notes hit your nose. Bright golden and orange virginias meet dark an elegant black cavendish. Well blended. 1st third: two matches are needed, almost three to char the surface. Then, fine fruity and boozy aromas walk your throat. I had terrible tongue bite while smoking BR Bourbon Whiskey, but this time its very pleasant. You can enjoy a full flavour smoke who's covering your mouth and throat, remembering your last holidays in Aruba or Curaçao or the Philippines. The rum. 2nd third: After the Rum said goodbye, there are still the VA's and Cavendish. The Mango also had to go- unfortunately. But with the two ingredients left, you might also have fun. They are, like mostly, two good friends- with fruity hints- at least. Last third: There its always fruity- whoohoo! But the more and more flat in taste and boring. While watchin' the same flat tv show 'the bachelor' its ok ;-). Résumé: Ok. Well. Its a good baccy! 100 grams are much, but for 25.50CHF / Swiss Francs its ok. Allday Smoke trough and trough. As a english lover, i like this aromatic. Ground solid. Give it a try! Sincerely yours, Emanuel P. Freudiger

Got this free with an order from PipesandCigars. Um....thanks?

This is the thinnest thing I ever put in a pipe. Has no depth at all. The tobacco is all high notes. The only mid -range notes are from the rum. Taste a bit like sweetened, fruity notebook paper soaked in rum. The good news is that the paint can it comes in can be used for something else.

Mild in body. Taste and flavoring is mild to medium. Needs numerous relights.

Not long ago I received multiple tins of the Borkum Riff limited edition blends to review and sell on my private website from a friend up in Arkansas. It took awhile to get to them because, frankly, most Borkum Riff blends and my palate get sideways with each other. These limited production blends, however, were a cut above their standard fare.

Trinidad rum had a nice little Virgnia/Burley taste with the unquestioned addition of the rum. It burned just a tad hot and wet, but was flavorful. I was not greatly impressed, but thought it was a good blend.

I really like this one. My tobacconist recommended it to me, because he knows I tend to complain with many pipe tobaccos that they are too mild. This one is just right for me. I enjoy to just open the tin and smell it. It really is a lovely mix. I don't find it to be that aggressive on the tongue as some might complain. Tobacco burns evenly and it produces a good smoke in which you can enjoy. I believe that some would not like it, but personally I think it's rather good.

Edit: I prefer it when it's open for a while instead of brand new. It's even better like that.

This would be my favorite tobacco if it wasn't for one fact: It's nearly unsmokeable. Price is awesome, $9 for 100g. Tin note is one of the best, rum and carribean fruit. The perfect amount of casing is added to the leaf to get you the flavors of the Virginias with the casing. I like to pop the top a couple times a week just for the tin note alone. You get all exited, get a bowl packed and a good burn going and then it hits you. Yep, there's the Borkum Riff. Your tongue feels like it's walking over a bed of hot coals. That's fine you say, This stuff tastes awesome, I'll sip on it and get through, you say. Out of sheer willpower you finish the bowl but your mouth has that old familiar Borkum Riff heat rash. Ah well, you should have guessed.

I've had a couple failed pipe smoking endeavors through the decades and never got beyond Captain Black Original. A few years ago I finally broke through the aromatic barrier into the vast land of Virginia Flake tobacco. Until today and the LE 11, the only subsequent sidetrack I took was with some "Trout Sream" aro a friend sent me.

This tin of LE 11 has been in my cellar for nearly 3 years. If was a "gift" from Pipes & Cigars. Thinking it would be horrible, I left it alone. Today, I am finally smoking a small Falcon bowl full and I rather like it. Aromatics are like candy. It's meant to be enjoyed once in a while, in small quantities. So, I'll keep this tin for when I get a craving; a sweet tooth. Trout Stream is good but I think this is better.

I really like the flavor in this blend. I even get some tobacco flavor along with the taste of the rum and fruit. The problem that I have with this blend is that it bites me incessantly. If this stuff didn’t bite me even while sipping it, I would probably keep it around. Should be at least a three star blend for me but the bite prevents me from giving it that much. Two stars.

It was a little strong for me and has a mean tongue bite, even when puffed slowly. But, i do like the taste and it stays lit well. The wife doesn't like the smell, however, so I am only smoking this blend outside or in the garage. It was worth the money paid for the experience. I will keep it on the shelf for infrequent use.

Smells wonderful. Smokes meh! Not horrible, but it's nothing that says, "buy more." I redeemed mine by mixing in increasing amounts of Lancers Slices, until it became decent enough to puff away on. The large metal tin will house some "on deck" bulk tobacco, when I'm done with it.

Generous flat thin ribbon cut with an outstanding tin with an exotic visual and textural description of a timeless journey into the 1800’s in the vicinity of lower longitudes and rare transported ingredients to enjoy a smoke of back-in-the-day. The blend developed into an enjoyable smoke so I had a few bowls and all the while thinking I could smoke this daily, but alas my membranes failed me by not being leathery enough to smoke with any regularity, but for an all day smoke or an every day smoke this is 2 stars for me.

I received a can of this as a sample in an order of tobacco that I had placed online. I must admit I was skeptical to even place it in one of my pipes due to my past experiences with Borkum Riff (Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey being the worst of the lot, and quite possibly the worst tobacco I have ever smoked). Amazingly enough, This offering from Borkum Riff was not half bad. There was some tobacco flavor present, although it does bite my tongue slightly. The room note was quite nice, and the added toppings on this blend do not completely mask the tobacco flavor. This is definitely the best Borkum Riff offering I have smoked, but it still falls short of what I consider a quality tobacco. Not bad, but wouldn't order any more of it.
