Notes: A blend that was created based on the cigarillos of the same name that are big sellers in Canada and Australia. STG decided to launch a pipe tobacco inspired by the cigars and introduce them in Canada, maybe also in Australia as well.
A fair proportion of black cavendish, burleys and completed by a touch of Virginias, this tobacco has a unique aroma reminiscent of liquor.

Given the limited choices of pipe tobaccos here in Tehran (Iran), amongst about 20 brands or so, such as Captain Black, Borkum Riff, Mac Baren, Planta, etc., this Colts American Mixture blend is my favorite alternative to a cigar. The Cuban cigars that are sold at the La Casa Del Habano franchise here in Tehran as the only handmade option other than some European and American machine-mades, have become very expensive recently. And since there are restrictions on mail orders for tobacco, not being able to order Cigar blends such as Mogano 146, Dominican Glory or Compton's Cuban Style Cigar Blend that are listed on this site, attempted to making a cigar leaf blend myself. After many trials I am very certain that the Colts AM is an excellent base for making a cigar leaf pipe tobacco. Mixing about 30% by volume of this Colts AM blend, and 50% by vol. any good cigar leaf, and 20% by vol. light Virginia, and voila! A satisfying smoke with cigar taste and aroma connotations, and just the way cigars are supposed to be smoked - without having to inhale! With no bites, and good clean burn as well. Rounder taste with age starting within few days by keeping the mix tightly re-packed in the original pipe tobacco pouch, and depending on the cigar (cigar leaf) used in the mix, the blend becomes creamy, earthy, woody, sweet, etc., or any combination.
Note: 1. Depending on your preference, this cigar leaf blend can be made to any desired strength, such as using light, medium, or full strength cigars. No Spicy, Salty or Flavored cigars are recommended at all. Due to high degree of burn in the pipe itself which intensifies the flavor of any cigar.
2. Better to always making any blend of choice in small amounts at a time, in order to minimize waisting tobacco, in case satisfactory results not achieved.

I thought it was going to be similar to Captain Black original because it has a white pouch and the picture of the tobacco on it looked similar hahahah. I was so wrong. This stuff is good. Burned well, smells good and didn't leave much moisture in the bottom of the bowl. Family and friends never made any comments of the room note. I like it more than the other Colts pipe tobaccoo the gold one. But I like Captain Black original way more than this so I stopped buying it after two pouches.

A big surprise! To be honest, i bought this as a very cheap tobacco to use as base for my own blends (15euro for 180grams) and never expected it to be this good.
When you first open it it has an interesting aroma of chocolate and liquor (maybe rum or some kind of brandy), which is pretty subtle and refined. It's cut is a bit random with some coarse pieces in an otherwise rough cut base, but it didn't produce any issues at all.
When smoked it feels more like a scented "american blend" than an aromatic. It is a very simple blend of virginias and burleys with some aromatised cavendish. You can feel the touch of the liquor and the overall taste remains the same throughout the bowl, although it bites just a little when it gets hot. It is also light on nicotine and body which makes it a good choice to smoke all day long. In adition, it's room note it's a bit chocolaty and very light and pleasant.
All in all, it is not a great tobacco nor a bad one, it is simple and neat. I would give it two stars if i didn't consider it's price, but colt's has an amazing value-for-money (at least in Europe) so three stars it is.
Would i buy it again? Probably yes. Would i recomend it to new smokers? Without a second thought. Would i recomend it to non-aromatic smokers? Yes, as it's aromas is very subtle.

Slightly sweet rummy/nutty blend with vanilla overtones that is nice to smoke on occasion. It almost seems as if it is basically Colts Gold Deluxe with some Black Cavendish added. It's a decent OTC blend. I prefer the Gold Deluxe, but this ain't bad.
Availability note: In Ontario, I have occasionally found this and the Gold Deluxe for sale at convenience stores and smoke shops.

I received this as a gift and wasn't very optimistic. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't entirely hate this tobacco. I found the taste to be quite mild. The smell was much nicer than the taste. It was a passible smoke that I'll smoke again when I'm running low on other stuff. I much preferred Colts Gold Deluxe (also received as a gift) to this.

I'm not a long time pipe smoker and selection of pipe tobacco in Turkey is extremely limited. But I still try to smoke different blends when I come across them and I can easily say this is the best one I smoked to this day. I aired the tobacco for 4 hours before smoking it, and to be honest to first whiff of the tobacco wasn't anything to write home about but after filling the bowl and lighting it everything changed. The smoke was rich and had a chocolaty and liquorish tone to it which I was immediately a huge fan of. I just can't get enough of it really ! My only lamentation is that this pack is really rare in Turkey, and to be real most stores only have a one pack of pipe tobacco which is either a fake Captain Black or the like. I will be on the hunt for this tobacco in the future, that's how much I enjoyed it.

Surprisingly good for the money. Smells of chocolate and tastes fine, not too strong and doesn't overstay it's welcome. One of the best budget tobaccos I've tried.

Although the name might lead the inexperienced to think this is just another artificially-sweetened aromatic, Colt's "American Mixture" packs a pleasant surprise in the pouch. It is a tangy, well-balanced smoke with a hint of cigar leaf in the mix. This tobacco packs and lights easily and I found that its flavour comes out to its best when sipped slowly, rather than taken in deep draws. Despite no Latakia being declared in the recipe Colt's AM has that smokey 'Balkan-esque' taste which is associated with the tobacco and I think it would make a good introduction to non-aromatic blends for the uninitiated.
