Really interesting. When I first opened it, I thought "Oh, here's another aromatic from Peterson, whoopdeedoo." It has a very strong tin note, fruity, rummy, nutty.

In the pipe, this stuff is wonderful. I get the rum, but this smokes more like a dark flake than a Danish type aromatic. Really, if they'd called this Peterson Navy Blend it would be appropriate I think.

I enjoy big pipefuls of this when I can't decide between an aromatic and a "serious" tobacco. This is kind of a go-between.

Very good blend, and kind of unique. No bite, decent strength, and certainly a very tasty blend.

Peterson - Nutty Cut.

First thought when this is opened is "fabulous", it appears to be mostly Burley and Virginia with about 20% Black Cavendish. It's not dry, nor damp and gives off a lovely aroma which is predominantly rum, more than nuts. The pieces are fairly uniform in cut, all about half a cm long with just a few differing in size.

Lighting this one is very easy: mine takes only two short touches with the flame and once lit it's incredibly steady in its burn; it stays lit and doesn't desist unless left un-attended. Flavour now, it's quite a delight! Unlike the blends smell the rum isn't too omnipotent, it actually just gives a pleasant rum like sweetness to the blend. The taste of the the Macedemia is quite faint, but detectable if looked for, whereas the coconut is a little easier to notify. Retro-haling improves the ease of recognition. The tobaccos are of a nice equilibrium, I get more of the Burley and Virginia's hay/cigarette note and a subtle sweet touch from the smaller amount of Black Cav'.

Nicotine: medium. Room-note: nice.

In all a superb aromatic that's not harsh, strong or sickly but more delicate and refined!

Yet another nice blend from Peterson. Tin aroma was sweet yet not fake or off-putting. It smelled quite edible. Initial draw after charring, tamping then lighting was beautiful. The taste and aroma filled the air like moms baking filled the kitchen way back when....you know .... That smell that made you smile and breathe in all you could.

I tasted dried fruit and a hint of nuttiness on my tongue and in my nose.

Mid bowl was mellow and maintained a good smoke without re-lighting. The last few draws we're mellow and sweet and nicer tasting then the first.

Never have I felt disappointment when finishing off a smoke like this one....I was not ready for it to end. This blend is why I smoke a pipe, it is so nice that I savour each and every draw.

My favourite thus far and I would most definitely recommend you try a bowl.

I am somewhat puzzled as to why this is called "Nutty Cut" because there was no nuttiness to any aspect of the tobacco, lit or unlit.

In the tin the leaf smells quite tangy- the virginias, I assume- with the Burleys in the background. There's a little earthiness or woodiness but this is a very dry note. No rum but a tiny bit of dates/ raisins/ pulses/ lentils. Maybe the slightest hint of coconut but I feel this is largely my imagination from the description on the tin.

A good moisture content out of the tin, but does get very wet when smoked. Nasty tobacco juice was a huge problem with this one. Keep some pipe cleaners handy to run down the stem every few minutes. Really considering popping a filter in next time I smoke (not something I've ever considered but this was awful on the moisture front).

Acidic tasting. Kind of like a "gone off" sweetness. Bites whichever way you smoke it, very bitter and hot. Sip slowly with this one. Very strong aftertaste on the tongue, too. Would advise smoking this with a cup of tea or coffee.

When smoked in a corncob I did get a little toasty/ roasted nutty flavour but I fear this was either my tongue or the bowl of my poor pipe.

It's only redeeming feature is a very enjoyable retrohale (through the nose). This is where all the flavour is hiding. Quite rummy/ fruity and not tangy or unpleasant at all.

Overall I feel like the pleasure in this smoke is not for the smoker! It's a great experience for people in the vicinity. Wonderful room note. Might be interesting for a newbie to sit and watch you try to smoke this because you will be using every tool you can lay your hands on to keep this bowl smokeable...

This blend has a mixture of coconut flavor some other taste I can't define. It tastes weird and leaves a gosh-awful aftertaste.

The nutty, earthy, woody, molasses sweet burley is the lead component by just a few steps. The tangy ripe dark fruit, earthy, woody, mildly citrusy, lightly grassy golden, red and dark Virginias also sport a light spice note, and are strong supporters in the mix. The sugary black cavendish offers a little smoothness in a condimental role. The rich rum topping is the most obvious one, followed by coconut, and a rather mild Macademia nut additive that may not consistently reach your taste buds. The toppings tone down the tobaccos to a moderate extent. The strength and taste are medium. The nic-hit is almost in the center of mild to medium. Won’t bite or get harsh, but you may notice a slight rough edge if you are a fast puffer. Burns fairly cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a little inconsistency in its sweet flavor. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires a tad more than an average number of relights. Has a pleasant lightly lingering after taste and room note. Not quite an all day smoke.

here in Brazil we have a phrase for something that deceives us through! "Fool's gold" is what this means tobacco!

        there is the smell of cold is good, the run seems to prevail. and that's all he's good. give forward only disappointment!

       1- cutting is bad; It looks like it was thrown into the turbine of an airplane, and then canned.

       2- a fight to stay on, requires constant relighting, I believe that much of it is because of this court made the ax.

      3- burning hot like a volcano! indenpendente how to smoke.

      4-and of course the bowl turns into a swamp.

      5- very weak in nicotine.

                if it's any consolation for those who already bought it and you want to smoke it, it keeps a sweetness from beginning to end, and the rum flavor is also constant; but it's only!

              in short, by the description can you imagine that will take you to seventh heaven; but the smoke it will not beyond the roof.

ps- used three different pipes including cob; he was bad in the three!

It always troubles me when I read a Tin of tobacco and see all the wonderful flavors that are SUPPOSED to be in the blend and simply ARE NOT. This is a tasteless tobacco and a waste of a $10 bill. Smoke your pipe empty...you'll get the same results.

Peterson Nutty Cut is an aromatic for pipers, who don’t like fruity sweet blends. I taste walnut and dark chocolate in the beginning, together with bright Virginias and Burley. After a quarter of the bowl the rum and unsweetened coconut come in, however, never above the natural sweetness of the tobaccos used really (even MM965 is way sweeter and nuttier to me, being a totally different beast, of course, just to make a point). The strength is medium, above your standard candy-like aromatic and cuts through a filter well if that’s your thing. Large bowls and giants will best suit the broad coarse cut. That might need a bit more tamping when lit.

Of those mixtures that linger between the worlds, this is one of the best.

I almost gave this blend only 2 stars, but decided that my initial experience with it merited one more. I'm not a particularly big fan of aromatics, but this is the first one that I really enjoyed. In fact, I had bought the tin 2 years ago, but not opened it after practically giving up on aromatics. However, at first puff, I was like, "whoa! What have I been missing?!" I used it to break in a Peterson System Standard pipe, and it smoked extremely sweet for the next two bowls. However, after some time, I grew tired of it, and even began to dislike it and its smell. I gave away about the last third of the tin. That is why only 3 stars.

I am a big fan of Irish Flake, have enjoyed Holiday Season 2012, and decided to try some of the other Peterson offerings. Upon opening the tin there was a very colorful offering of ribbon cut leaf with a pleasing tin note. I was able to smell the rum and coconut but not the Macadamia Nut. Moisture level was right for smoking and I had no problem with lighting or keeping the fire going. I could taste the coconut and rum throughout the smoke, albeit way milder than with HS '12. There was a nut like flavor that wafted in and out but I wouldn't have guessed Macadamia if I didn't know beforehand. It didn't smoke too hot for being so fresh nor was there any bite or moisture buildup. It managed to maintain a subtle sweetness throughout and it did have some tobacco presence, but it was way milder than their Hyde Park and HS '12. Very nice for an occasional aromatic smoke. Recommended with 3 stars, but my taste buds favor stronger fare like Irish Flake.

I've only smoked unflavoured pipe tobacco thus far but I thought Id give aromatics a chance, and the desciption on the tin seemed to suit my tastes. But I was disapointed, to say the least.

Nutty cut does smell somewhat like rum and the other ingredients mentioned, but none of that smell actually translates into taste when smoked. The smoke tastes and smells like some kind of artificial perfume, similar to car-freshner or that blue stuff some people have in their toilet bowls. I suppose some people could will themselves into thinking it tastes like rum, coconut and macademia nuts, but I would be very surpised if this blend contained anything other than synthetic chemicals and esters. The taste from the actual tobacco is very mild and mostly concealed by the flavouring.

The only thing I can fairly say about this blend is that it's not a good idea to try it if you only smoke unflavoured pipe tobacco.

Hmmmm. Very beautiful tin aroma, a bit overwhelming at first. The next day, it has significantly reduced. A lot of coarse cut, from the Golden VAs. When smoked, it is bland, I cannot taste any tobacco and there is no strength to it.

This is one of my favorite tobaccos! Such a mild smoke you can smoke quite a few bowls of it with little to no bite.

When I was first introduced to this tobacco I was so impressed that I thought I would never find another tobacco that could take it's place.

This is a tobacco that has a lightness and sweetness like angel cake vs heavy chocolate cake (I do like both mind you). Do not expect this to be a strong intense smoke. It is not for those who crave a ultra sweet and powerful bang. This is for us that like mild and elegant flavors.

Nutty cut does not have an overpowering coconut taste and smell, infact it's a pretty light aroma and flavor. I do not get the sense of coconut when smoking this. But more of an organic earthy aroma of warm baked nutty muffins.

Nutty Cut will always be one fo my favorites!

Nutty cut is a tasty combination of mild nutty, boozy flavors in a medley of quality tobaccos. The Virginia provides a citrus, grassy note while the Burley provides a earthy nutty note. The Cavendish is an essential player with some sugary sweetness(albeit not too much so). The toppings of the coconut, macadamia nuts and rum play nicely together to round out the blend. Aromatic, yes, but in a different class in my opinion. Lights, burns and smokes like a champ from the get go. No goopy mess in the pipe, flavor profile stays the course throughout the process. No bite here but the flavor is such that one may be tempted to smoke this too fast. All in all a top drawer addition to my rotation.

Another slightly weaker Peterson.

The nuttiness is fairly well present in this, although it doesn't create a super enjoyable taste to my senses; I classify blends like this as "non-offensive" aromatics. Smoke is on the medium side of mild but my major gripe with this is that it is loathe to burn, and also somewhat dirty. In my experience it's actually the second worst burning tobacco after Greve Hamilton; 2-3 charring lights is the norm, as is several relights per bowl, and again there's a fine line between puffing hard and the pipe wanting to go out completely. This seems to be an inherent characteristic of the blend as drying out only marginally helps. The tobacco also "sweats" quite a lot of tar, it's not unusual to hear the stem spluttering and wheezing with it while smoking, and cleaning is therefore a bit more involved process than usual. Tongue bite is moderate, somewhat more than one would maybe expect from a blend like this but the smoke, once you get to it, is not actually that bad - a little bit on the dark medium side, with a nutty overtone supported by hints of coffee/cocoa. It's just that getting to that slow, peaceful flow of smoking is a bit too much work with this blend. Two stars leaning on one.

Recommended to aromatics smokers only, with caution.

The description was tempting. The aroma when I cracked the tin was off putting. Strong artificial fruity, possibly coconut smell. I tried half a bowl as a test and found no improvement. I've encountered a couple other European blends that have a similar odor and wonder if it is something in the casing that is common between them. Can't recommend.

I feel a bit duped here. There wasn't anything very nutty about this one. All I got from opening the tin was a dusty sweet cardboard smell with a slight nose wrinkling cherry sour smell. I suppose I could be convinced there was a bad rum flavored topping at work here, but nothing I was wanting to engage.

The cut was also a let down. Gone were any meaty tendrils that packed a good smoke, instead you got a bunch of golden brown fish flakes. Having a cut with such a large percent of paper thin dime sized leaves does not work for two reasons. One, packing a bowl is a nightmare as you certainly can't use much pressure or your wad won't pull air through, so you had to loosely pack your pipe, which lead to problem... Two, it all burned so quickly, it was like smoking a cheap off brand cigarette that hits the filter after one drag.

While the taste of this aromatic certainly is not the worst thing I've smoke, there was nothing that made me want to continue. Again, it felt generic, and left a stinky cloud of old smoke smell (think that Uncle that never leaves his house to smoke) that hung in the air hours after smoking it.

Gosh, I'm going to be stepping on toes with this review. I don't seem to be having much luck with my outings with Peterson's.

All I can say is that every Peterson's blend has bitten me savagely, and it's something I can't put down to poor technique at this point. Possibly I have a PH chemistry that is at odds with their offerings. That in itself wouldn't indict Nutty Cut so comprehensively as to the main offender: the taste.

Once again it smells fantastic in the tin and room note, but that promised nuttyness for me comes from a coconut casing, and it's one I could do well without. It isn't that natural deep walnut as that which you get from a decent straight burley blend eg. Wessex BS, Solani ABF or Edgeworth RR.

I also had a very long drawn-out aftertaste that coats the mouth, that some aromatics can leave, but for me in this instance, it wasn't pleasant. I expect if, unlike me, you can get along with Peterson's aros, you'll do well to try a tin.

I like MacBaren and Sam Gawith aromatics once in a while, I just don't get on with Nutty Cut.

I got my hands on this specific blend a couple of years ago. The young tobacco was exceptionally raw and no matter which pipe I smoke it in, it always burned hot, tasted like ash and gave no enjoyment no matter how hard I tried. I jarred the thing up after half a dozen bowls and forgot about it till today.

The tin aroma is of sweet nutty beans along with strong hints of liquer reminding you of thick molasses. Nutty cut is an extremely dark, sweet and nutty blend for the first half of the bowl. The Virginias play good along with the burleys and the cavendish for the first half of bowl which transitions boldly to a strong nutty/burley experience. Peterson knows a thing or two on how to use alcohol to their advantage.

I don't think its rum I taste in the smoke but rather a heavy molasses liquer as noted in the tin aroma. All in all a no-nonsense aromatic with lots of nutty goodness.

The cut is quite messy but surprisingly burns good without any qualms though may require a few more relights than normal. This blend has strength uncommon of aromatics in its genre, not good enough to kick your ass to bed but good enough to satisfy the little nicotine pangs when you are not ready for a full or medium strength smoke but want to enjoy a dessert smoke instead with a little push.

A small note to novice pipe smokers, aromatics are not the right way to start pipe smoking, they usually burn hot, dont taste like they smell and require extra effort to smoke them slow, at least, in my humble opinion.

In the end I must stress aging your tobacco. Even aromatics become sublime after they've simmered in a jar for a year or two. All in all, nutty cut is a good smoke after you've aged it for some time.

I did not like this blend and could barely finish it. And I enjoy all types of tobaccos, including aromatics. This one just had a bad taste to me. Too much coconut I think. Connoisseur’s choice is much better.

This is ok.

Its caught somewhere between an all-out aromatic, and a navy blend, and as such its kinda neither.

In my mind, this is more of an aromatic. The smoke is fragrant, and although you certainly do get the tobacco taste, its very much the aroma and flavorings of the dark rum and nuts that comes through most. The tobacco is in the background.

However, the mere fact that as the bowl goes on and the flavoring steps aside for the tobacco to come on strong means that there is an argument to be made for this being a navy tobacco. The fact that it is ribbon and not flake may stop that, but still, it can be considered.

So, good, not great, but for me the fact that its not really either of the above in any serious way makes you scratch your head a bit and think throughout the bowl that its nowhere near as good as really shining examples of either.

Lovely tin note, but thats all ! Too weak, hardly any taste, no nicotine ! I normally smoke strong English blends, so perhaps my palate is a bit too desensitised for a RR aromatic. Might be ok for a newbie ! Will use the remains as a bulk in my tobacco mixing shenanigans.

Macadamia nuts and dark brown sugar (rum) - favourites of mine at any time. A blend with which I re-started my piping earlier this year, the taste of REAL tobacco is easy to separate from the casings/flavours - seems a bit of 'irish' temperament surfaced in the blenders [Kohlhase & Kopp??]. Subtle but firm are the individual contributions of Va and Cav - the burley is probably hidden by the flavourings it is enhancing. A most pleasant smoke - recommended highly

A really nice smoke! Apon opening the tin there is a wonderful aroma dominated by rum and Macadamia nuts. When smoking, I picked up on the rum and the nuts, but have yet to find the coconut. It's a very pleasant smoke and when puffed carefully, it's nothing but smooth. This one is definitely wife friendly, so enjoy!

I did not get the chance as a previous reviewer to enjoy the special edition 2007 but that is a fine aromatic with a discreet aroma.

When opening the tin the fruity aroma comes quite strong. Apricot or apple. One day I said 'marshamallow' and that can be quite disturbing.

Nice smoke with a discreet but persistant aroma. There are stronger aromatic from Peterson but that one is worth a try for its discreet and distinctive qualities.

Once again another great blend from Peterson. The Virginia, Burley, and Black Cavendish marry nicely with the casing of Macadamian nuts, rum, and coconut (the latter of which is least noticeable). The blend burns nice and evenly down, but a tad on the warmer side. Take your time with this blend, lightly sipping on it and you will be greatly rewarded with a very good experience.

I like to have an aromatic open for a change of pace , this one have a good nutty flavour and a balanced sweetness, burns a little hot so go slow and it will deliver some good flavours.

This aro, has the same problem like almost all aros;NO BODY/STRENGH. I like the flavour of it but the mouthfeeling is ....? Some hot sour air with no body to make it round , pleasant and satisfying. Not to forget it tends to burn hot and pain the tongue even if it is smoked slowly. The exhale through the nose offers a nice aroma, the rum is detectable which is nice to me and some tobacco is there to. all in all much to light

I had to check my notes to be certain: this appears to be a close relative of (if not identical to) Peterson's Special Reserve Limited Edition from 2007. According to the labels from both, it is the same tobacco and the same aromatics. I've smoked a lot of tobacco since then, but I remember that I really liked the Special Reserve blend from 2007. And missed it once my two tins were finished.

With some reservations, I purchased a tin to see. Upon opening it, by olfactory memory fired up and confirmed that this was just about the same. And as before, I like it very much. In addition, the room note is very pleasant as well.

So I am very happy to see this "return". It may not be exactly the same, but it's close enough for "government work"!

I have been enjoying this blend immensly. I had gotten away from ARO's for many reasons. I was hesitant to give this a try. I was pleasntly surprised went i lit the first bowl.

Prelight aroma gives me an image a Carribean island and cool drink. Fruity and sweet. The flavor that I got was one of very light coconut. I only was able to taste the nutty flavor every once and a while. The smoke was cool through each pipe I smoked it through, and left no unpleasant aftertaste. The room note is so pleasing that I almost want to burn it as incense. All in all this blend has brought an ARO back into my regular rotation of tobacco.

Interesting: I applied to the site to add this one for review, but someone beat me to it. I thought it would be a quick review based on one tin, but spent two weeks getting through two tins before feeling I was ready to review it. I am not an aromatic man and won't buy it again, but I think this will be well received by ardent admirers of Peterson aromatics.

Unlike some other Peterson offerings, the casing doesn't overpower the smoke and it was interesting enough, even for me, to warrant two tins before deciding. I can't ever remember smoking two AROs in succession before and the nutty flavor that develops half way through the smoke was somewhat capturing.

It is top quality tobacco as you would expect - sad about the casing!

This won’t be a big review, as it’s not much to say. But remember, every review is a personal, subjective opinion, so it may or may not be the same to yours. And my personal opinion about this blend is: The worst tobacco blend I’ve smoked. There was Rattray’s Union Jack which i also hated, but at least that one had some aroma. This “Nutty Cut” is flat, has no aroma, it doesn’t taste of tobacco or cocco or nuts or beans or rum or anything. It’s just flat. While reviewing this tobacco I’m using two pipes... a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Original and a Savinelli Porto Cervo, both smoking very well any aromatic. I tried this tobacco in both pipes at the same time. Absolutely no difference. You smoke and can’t feel anything, and if you try to draw more in order to taste anything, all you will get is a tongue bite and a sour taste. It also burns very, very bad. It goes out quick, and when you relight it and try to keep the pipe lit, it will get hot. I never had this experience with any other blend. The only good thing about it is the tin smell and the room note. Very disappointed. I’ll give it more chances in the future, but I don’t think I’ll be able to smoke more than half of the tin.

I am slowly becoming convinced that any aromatic with a Peterson label on it will be a worthwhile pursuit and this one was no exception. I wouldn't say it was my favorite aro by Peterson, that honor so far rests with DeLuxe Mixture, but it is close enough to warrant a fourth star IMHO.

Like the other aros by Pete, this carried an abundant aroma in the tin note, but once lit it became apparent that the topping was lightly applied allowing the tobacco to come forth and adding only a mere accentuation to the same. This, like the others, is a great mix of burley and Virginia which brings natural nuttiness in itself to the blend before any toppings are added. The cut was the only thing I felt was odd about this blend. It was kind of all over the place with some very large pieces of what appeared to be Virginia leaf. While the appearance of this was random, it performed flawlessly which is all the matters anyway. I never had a problem taking this down to ash with one light when I wasn't interrupted.

A lot of times I don't favor toppings when they are made to resemble things I like to eat, but that is not the case with this one. It is made of everything I like to eat and I just loved it; key to this is probably the coconut as this is something I really enjoy in toppings. I am pretty sure that if the toppings were not told to me upfront, there is no way I would be able to identify them individually, in fact, I really thought that it came off as more a carmelly confectionary type taste.

Another bonus to the Peterson Aros is they also satisfy the nic cravings. They are not overwhelmingly strong by any means, but they will leave you sated, at least they do me. I think this one will really ring the bells of burley lovers who are looking for a sweet treat. This burley lover really enjoyed it and could easily smoke it all day.

Lacks in taste, no mouthfeel whatsoever. Out of the tin has a lovely aroma and the room note is not entirely unpleasant. The only way you get any taste other than smoke is retrohale, which really very nice.

This is a characteristic aromatic blend in Peterson style wich means tense aroma,lots of moisture and rich aromatic flavours.when the tin cracks a nice sweet and nutty rum aroma comes out.the blend moisture is a lot so i recommend some drying time.the ribbons are large and since dried the pack and light easy though some relights are needed through smoking.while burning the flavours are exactly what the tin aroma promises.sweet rum notes are dominant accompanied from some nuts from the burleys.the virginias are mostly citrucy and grassy but a little tonned down.burns medium speed and hot with a lot moisture being created at the end of the bowl and the filter.smoke it peacefully because a little tongue bite might appear.the room note is perfect.the aftertaste is sweet.generally this is a nice aromayit blend typical Peterson's style that can be an all day smoke.

This pipe tobacco may be difficult for the novice smoker to pack as there are large chunks of material that doesn't really burn well without a number of re-lights. I'd equate getting this tobacco to burn as being like trying to light raisins or dates. Not impressed by this blend.

This is a strange blend. On the surface it looks very much like Peterson's Luxury Blend: the composition is similar and also has a strong casing, in this case it's an almost overwhelming aroma, very sweet, mixing some fruit and liquor. Out of the tin it smells very, very good.

However, when smoking, it falls a bit flat. The flavouring disappears (but gives a nice room note) and the tobacco doesn't really offer anything. Where Luxury Blend has a nice pure tobacco taste (thanks to the burley, I guess) here you're just smoking a very plain mixture. It doens't taste bad, but it doesn't have much to offer either. For sure this blend will have its fans, but I think that you can find something better in Peterson's other offerings.

I dont see what all the hype is in this blend, in fact this is not Petersons best quality. Opening the tin you get the rum scent and smoking you get rum but not much more. In fact this reminded me of a cheap cigar aka. Phillies and Swisher Sweets at times. Peterson goofed on this one. Yuck !

I was a little bit sceptical about the coconut, but I gave it a try. It was worth it. This is a very tasty and nice tobacco. The aromas are not overwhelming, rum and macadamia rule, and coconut is just... there. No artificial feeling, they all feel natural, and go together really well (and not as girly as they sound). I loved it straight from the tin, though I found the taste just a little bit mellow, and I could imagine some more nutty and earthy taste, and also wanted to add some creamy texture to the smoke- so I made a little experiment: I added some Original Choice (MB). And there it was. Just what I wanted. The mixture made both tobacco's best qualities just a bit louder.

I always have a little leftover from Original Choice, as Mac Baren provides it in a pouch only, and about 20-25% of the pouch breaks to small grains. And this is just a perfect way to use these leftovers. Nutty Cut comes in big cut, so I can start stuffing with those, they fill the bottom of my pipe nicely. And then I start adding Original Choice (10-20% only). I finish with Original Choice (small grains to the top), and voila.

It became a habit. The smoke has a more creamy texture, macadamia becomes the protagonist, and all tastes go stronger. I strongly recommend a try.

And I also recommend Nutty Cut to beginners. It is easy to light, and maintain, has no tongue bite, it is mild, yet it has a very pleasant aroma "without an effort".

It is a decent aromatic. Cut is little messy, but burns suprisingly easy, clean and cooly. It is nutty, but not dry hazelnut/walenut nutty but rather sweet coconut plus rum. I dislike a bit of cigarettes type of smoke. I belive it can be satisfying for many pipe smokers, quality is very good, I can recommend it, but if it is your type of aroma. It is not mine. I can smoke it occasionaly but I will never buy another tin, so my rating is 2/4

I had high hopes for this one, but it turned out te be a disappointment. The sticky casing leaves a nasty aftertaste and sets the tongue on fire. Even after drying it out for a week, the tobacco was utterly unsmokable for me. The pain lasted for more than two days. In the bin!

Not my favourite and was expecting more varied tones of various nuts throughout the smoke however the taste is constant and unchanging.

Having said that it has grown on me towards the end of the tin.

I wouldn't purchase it again but would recommend anyone to try and see if you like it....as I've said I like it but so many more tobaccos to try before I end up buying this one again.

I love buying new tins its all about change and what i fancy a bit of at any given time. I smoke the pipe for flavour and pleasure. As long as I get a moderate dose of vitaminK Im happy. OK nuff said about my stance.

I got a tin of nutty cut I had great expectations. I love rum I love coconut and have eaten macademia nut tho they are not that common place in the uk midlands. In short all tin blurb was my bag.

I open the tin pull the papers back take a good hoot and well very sweet and fruity. If I looked hard prehaps a boozy rumesque kind of boff. Nutty it was not.

Well tin sniffers are like tyre kickers so on my way home stuffed a bowel in my best smoker and lit up. Did nothing but light and smoke. Just like it should but no nic hit no warmth no pleasure. It was like a sick joke something was wrong. How folks have said it burns hot or bites i dont know.

The smoke was tasteless and cold something chemical was taking place I was hooting it as hard as I could but the smoke was cold on my pallette. The pipe was cherry red in the bowel and the vapour as it was not smoke was cold. I gave up tooting half way home and when in my smoking jacket slippers and best armchair sat back.

Just the same thing happened. I scooped the bowel and gave up. Sad thing was it clung in my mouth forever my mouth was cold like menthol and no other baccy tasted good. In short it ruined a good nights smoking. I brushed my teeth and drank some cola to clense my mouth but it hung on.

The tin note is pleasant but not nutty the smells do not translate to smoke and the smoke is plain wierd. Great for some but not for me at all. I like traditional and aromatic with no bias either way. To scared to try it again lifes to short to suffer. No points this time peterson. Even lovers of this blend say the taste is way off description. WHAT GIVES. I tried sunset breeze which is a similar smoke the base baccy about the same. I had similar results however the almond came through.

This is the "DeLuxe Mixture" on stamina.

Much more flavour, much more pleasure, for the smoker as well as for his neighbourhood.

I love to smoke it before dinner. And, after eating, people often ask me: "why not smoking some more of your tobacco?"

To sum up, this is a great aromatic, which gives pleasure to everyone.

The tin note is delicious! The flavor is also nice, the flavor is a little muted compared to the tin note but still there. Unfortunately this blend bit me pretty hard no matter what pipe I smoked it in. And I'm a slow smoker. The flavoring is fantastic but due to the bite I say there are better options out there. Maybe it just doesn't work with my body chemistry who knows...

I'm a big fan of this particular Peterson blend - I find it to taste both coco-nutty and chocolaty which is a delicious combination.

When you open the tin a all empowering aroma becomes evident - reminding me a little of a full bodied fruit wine. It smokes well and the moisture level out of the tin is close to perfect - the guys at Peterson really know what they are doing.

This is a nice aromatic. I think of nothing wrong with it other than its not strong. I like flakes (Orlik, Dunhill Navy Cut, etc). I pick up a bunch of rum and not so much coconut. I enjoy this and as someone said, it's a nice change from the more "serious" tobaks. This is not to say anything negative. All strengths of tobak have a place in the "rotation" (like baseball pitchers). Good stuff here!

I failed to read the tin before I bought this, was thinking it would be more pecan or walnut (something of the sort). I do not care for coconut at all, but this was not a bad tobacco at all. I'm sure that if I like coconut the would be joining my rotation as I am enjoying it anyway. Low on Vitamin N and the wife says it "smells better than some of your others." for her that is a compliment.

I thoroughly enjoyed this product. I am an aromatic smoker, and enjoy mostly sweet Cavendish blends. This tin really hit the spot. The first couple bowls had a noticeable coconut aroma and flavor to them, but about half way through the tin that was gone, perhaps the tobacco dried out too much. What was consistent for me was the hazelnut taste. After the bowl was finished I found that taste to linger on. I didn't pick up on the rum at all. The tobacco smoked evenly, and fairly cool throughout. I would buy this tin again hands down. I enjoy Peterson products very much, and this new blend surely did not disappoint.

The smell from the time was a very sweet (but not sickly) aroma of vanilla and a hint of rum. The tobacco itself is easy to light but not so much that it's like a tinderbox and I find keeps lit rather well.

Smoking wise I will be honest and say I was a little disappointed during the first 1/3 of the bowl: yes it is a sweet smoke but it's very faint and burns a little hot.

However once you reach half way through the bowl it changed instantly from a flat and hot smoke to a very sweet and cool smoke. When drawing the smoke it was that cool I couldn't feel it in my mouth instead the flavour creeps along your tongue leaving the taste of sweet rum. Exhaling through the nose you are left with the taste of nuts.

Towards the end the nutty taste dominates the smoke and becomes more potent, almost replacing the taste of rum and vanilla completely.

In my opinion it is one of the finest aromatics I've smoked and will be buying more Nutty Cut in future.

Despite a wonderfully rich aromatic smell upon opening, the taste is alot less cased than you think. Unlike the usual "wet" aromatics, the gold, red and dark ribbon Virginia blend smokes dry - like coconut and macadamia nuts would be. Could use a little more rum. "Why is the rum always gone?"

On opening the tin you get a very pleasing floral sweet note. Like the other Peterson branded blends I have tried, this seems to combine high quality tobaccos into an easy to pack ribbon cut. The casing gives almost a honey aroma to the overall mixture.

Once lit, this has become one of my two favourite blends. The coconut and rum flavorings translate into a very smooth smoke. There is not too much sweetness and the base taste of the tobacco comes through the over tones of flavours.

As you reach the lower half of the bowl, there is none of the dampness or "spitting" sounds that you can get from some other aromatics. The taste towards the end of the bowl is rather nutty and again very pleasing.

If you enjoy more gentle aromatics then I would urge you to try this splendid quality blend.

Tin note of coconut, spiced rum and sugar. Tobacco is a mixed cut of brown, dark brown and black. Moisture content is great, larger chunks may need a little attention. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild to medium, with notes of coconut, nuts and rum. Coconut and Rum most obvious at the start but died down to a background note. Nutty was never above a background note. Taste is medium and moderately consistent, with notes of coconut, spiced rum, brown sugar, savory, molasses, wood, dry earth, acidic, mild vanilla, tart and tangy citrus, mildly nutty, bread, orange peel/bitter, mildly floral, a sweet grass background note, and a mildly peppery retro. Burley is leading with Cavendish, Flavoring and Virginias supporting. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is good.

Walnuts with a touch of rum, and molasses. Maybe macadamia nut and coconut in the back finish. Very mellow and moderately sweet. Not too strong. A bit woody. Smokes the same throughout the bowl and consistent with flavor. Depth improves a tiny bit after halfway.

As for tobacco, since many reviewers already provided some information, I will keep it simple. Aroma within tin is amazing, including draw after packing and before getting it lit. Easy to lit and I taste the Burley, Virginia, nut and sweetness during first, second and last third. At the end of my last third I had to re-lit one time before the very last 5 puffs, and this could be related to my smoking pace. The added notes are not overwhelming and provide great accent tone. Room note is pleasant and family complements every time. It does not generate tongue bite and no gurgles. This is a good tobacco to enjoy on a rotation. Why? Every time I come back to it, almost as if I am smoking it for the first time. Overall, this tobacco is worth enjoying it.

An advise to all pipe critiques out there. When writing online reviews, please criticize product in-scope. In other words, do not give product "low stars" rating, yet fail to provide substance on your review. A low star rating with a "I do not like tobacco," or "I prefer other kind or taste," or "I like name brand tobacco better than this" misleads everyone. These types of statements are not constructive and does not help tobacco community. Not to mention you are impacting product statistics and potential buyers, and these are the people that might enjoy the tobacco. If you indeed did not like the tobacco... It is OK to be specific on the reasons. If that is not possible, then provide Pros and Cons and that should help us while reading reviews.

I am a fan of most Peterson aromatic blends although any perique or latakia leaf in any blend is not allowed in my home. The reason for this is the strong lingering room note that stays resident is not welcomed by non smokers or people who are sensitive to tobacco aroma. Upon tin opening, the presentation and tin note is delicious. "Nutty Cut" is a perfect name for this blend as it describes the blend very well. Packing and lighting is easy, a slight tamp after the charring light is all it needs to get the fire going. Nutty cut does not hold any fruitiness or heavy flavoring, just what it says on the tin... Macadamia nuts, there is a gentle layer of soft vanilla there, and possibly a touch of rum or similar alcohol. The mild flavour is immediately obvious in fact lovers of stronger aromatics like Petersons Luxury Blend or Killarney might be surprised how mild and initially tasteless it is... But wait... Here it comes... Beautiful mellow flavour which pleases you with it's own natural nutty taste. The room note is expensive I believe the addition of burley makes the blend gentle and non offensive even to my wife! Next morning there is no evidence that a pipe has been smoked at all. Some pipe smokers may find that that attribute alone is a welcome opportunity to enjoy a pipe at home without worrying about others. My all day favourite,

One of the better Peterson aromatics for me, because of the flavouring. I really like rum and nuts, so it's right up my alley. This is at it's best on the retrohale, rum heaven!

It does possess some of the usual issues with highly cased tobaccos, tendencies to burn hot if smoked fast and tongue bite if smoked too often... so don't. Also let it dry out some.

A might buy for me when I need a change of pace from my everyday Latakias or flavoured Perique/Kentucky smokes.

Worth a try, recommended!

I will declare from the outset, I'm not really a fan of aromatics. I bought this on a whim and without research just by way of a change - my all day smoke is another Peterson, Balkan Delight. The tin note is rich and sweet. The tobacco was dry on opening and reminded me a little of fish food flakes. And the taste.... It took me a third of a 50g tin before I discerned any nuttiness. The first few bowls were all just fruity sweet and nothing much more. But it is a superior aromatic, gets better once the sweetness has levelled off, stays well lit after ignition (and I had almost no tongue bite), and all in all it's inoffensive - to the point that if I were to want an occasional aromatic in my rotation I might get another tin.

If you're not looking for a full-blown sweet-tooth aromatic but something with mild or at least not candy-like flavouring, look elsewhere. I was looking for something with the minor and non-sweet flavouring that for example 1792 or one off the various cocoa-cased burleys where the tobacco flavour is the major player. This did not fulfill those criteria. And shame on me, it doesn't claim to fulfill them. I suspect this tin will sit on my shelf untouched for a long time, but that doesn't make it bad for everyone.

Tin note is very strong, sweet and candy-like. A rather artificial and unpleasant scent in my opinion. This does not necessarily mean that the casings or top flavourings themselves are off poor quality. I know for a fact from mixing my own perfumes with essential oils that high quality substances that aren't mixed in a good way can smell in a way that most would describe as "artificial".

But this is not a perfume. Unpleasant tin-note is irrelevant, the smokeability and taste is what matters (and to a lesser degree room note)

The natural tobacco flavour is there but takes a back seat. The burley in is particularly noticeable and the nuttiness going along well with the toppings & casings. You can't always fully tell them apart which is a good sign imo. There are clear coconut notes throughout the smoke. The sweetness is more along the lines off caramel & brown sugar rather than syrupy or artificial. My tastebuds tell me that some aromatic topping sauce use corn syrup which produces an unnatural and aggressive sweetness that I dislike, Vauens aromatics for example. I could be completely wrong here, both on corn syrup being used at all and the contents off the sauce in this blend, but what I can say is that the sweetness tastes very natural, caramellish and yummy. And that there is LOTS of sweetness here.

The taste doesn't really develop, it stays the same. Not alot off body or strength. Fairly easy to keep lit and burns rather well, there will be some dottle and moisture left unless you smoke at a snails pace, but it's not really a problem although the burning characteristics could be better. There doesn't seem to be any propylene glycol in here (it wouldn't dry as quickly as it does if it had PG)

Closest and best way I can describe the taste off this blend is like a snickers bar with coco sprinkled on top.

I actually left this out to dry to try to decrease the flavours from the toppings, then rehydrated with water, and redid the process a few times. I waited a few days after the last rehydration to let the tobacco fully soak up the moisture. I liked it much better that way, it brought out the subdued tobacco flavours that you couldn't tell was there with the all the strong toppings. The tobacco itself is off high quality as far as I can tell, they didn't pick out bad leaf and have it not matter by drowning out the taste with sauce. Some blenders seem to do this, for example the only non-top quality VA I've ever smoked from Samuel Gawith was Beginner's Luck 2. And to be fair on blenders who (seem to) do that, if the smoker isn't looking for tobacco flavour but cherry/vanilla/chocolate etc and the tobacco taste is to be subdued anyway, why use top-shelf tobacco?

Anyway, Peterson didn't do that with this blend and I am surely glad they didn't considering how enjoyable I found the blend after I had done my dry up & rehydrate process.

Highly recommended for aromatic lovers, not so much for others. Although I CAN see connoiseurs off sweet VA flakes looking for a change off pace enjoying this a great deal IF you dry it out & rehydrate it a few times like I did.

Boy you gotta sip this blend to truly enjoy it. It will bite like a bulldog if you do not take it slow and even then you could get some bite. Great tin note. The room note is outstanding. Lots of... nutty smells. You also get some nutty flavor but sadly only some I wanted more!! If it could taste as great as it smells it would be 20 stars for me. It is a great evening smoke to savor over a long period of time. I suggest you smoke in a larger bowl as this blend tends to get a little hot and does not do well in a smallish type bowl as the heat just kills the flavor. I am not a big fan of Danish aromatics as they never seem to want to put in Latakia which I seem to gravitate too. All in all it is a great aromatic.

I mixed a little Latakia with this blend and it really perked it up. Now I have a smoky nutty flavor. It's like the Latakia brought out more of the nutty flavor. I think I will name it......."hot nuts". Just taste so damn good now. Sweet smoky nutty flavor. Oh man this is awesome. I put a quarter of a ounce with five tins of nutty cut. This appears to be just the right mix to make a really great aromatic/English blend. I have about seven ounces of Syrian Latakia left so I have about a years worth of great and awesome smokes.

At first , i hated it. I was let down that the sweet smell didn't translate to the taste. I think this is a cross between an aromatic and something with a little more of a grown up vibe , it takes a wee bit of getting used to - smoked slow it burns well and has not too bad a nicotine hit with that hit of .... nuts ! . A tobacco for an odd indecisive evening.

I am surprised to see only a 3:1 ratio of positive reviews. I fancy myself a tobacco purist snob -- but ever in search of the "do-able" aromatic. This fills the bill admirably. Nice natural tobacco taste, with a distinct nutty flavor, and no artificiality so typical of most aromatics (especially OTC aros.) No problems with lighting, burning, bite or moisture. Delightful smoke when you get the itch for something sweeter and nuttier than can be found naturally.

This is an excellent flavored mixture. Sweet, palatable, particular, never boring, always present during the smoking. The casing is a natural casing, without chemical additives, but don’t forget it is always a flavored mixture and if you like natural tobaccos this is not the best choise. Nevertheless if you are an aromatic tobaccos’ lover this is a very good choise. Peterson, respecting tradition. In my personal system rating (from 1 to 10) my score is 8 and three stars.

Thought I would give this tabacco a try and how glad I am that I did. A cool smoke. I could taste the macadadamia nuts and rum as I smoked my pipe. A hint of coconut just seductively teasing my tastebuds. At the grand finale of my last bit of tabacco,merely tantalished by this wonderful smoke. Not too hot just perfect. The roommate smelt amazing.

I bought this from the tobacconist simply because they didn't have the Irish Flake and wanted to give another Peterson Tobacco a try. When I got home and opened the tin I was extremely surprised (in a good way) by the flavor this tobacco has. Doesn't seem at all artificial, just good, clean, aromatic tobacco with a hint of a nutty mixture. The room note for this one is astonishing, therefore I think a 4/4 is well deserved for an excellent aromatic.

I'm a VA and VAper piper that has decided to take a tour of aromatics. Next up: Peterson's Nutty Cut. The tobacco looks of great quality and is a beautiful display of different cuts and color variations of VA leaf spackled with black Cavendish blended with Burley. The smell of the tin is a sharp sweetness like a hard candy or even Sweet Tarts candy. I do smell the coconut. I used a fairly new cob pipe which sometimes can confuse my palette by adding it's own sweetness to the mix.

I found this blend a bit of an oddity. I noticed the fragrance didn't transfer to the bowl and the room note is hardly noticeable. Though this is suppose to be an aromatic, (IMO) it's not a strong one as the tobacco flavor is really dominate with an occasional sip of added flavor. This also didn't behave like a true aro like the last aromatics I tried. (Drew Estate offerings).

This blend seemed to walk the line of not really a super strong tobacco blend, but not a strong aromatic. Nutty Cut is a good quality tobacco and my only recommendation is if you’re an aromatic fan wanting to try a more natural blend this is a good one. One final note, because it is a predominantly VA leaf it will bite you if you mistreat it. Like that cute little lap dog you tease or poke. He's cute, but his teeth will show quick. Over all I'm a bit disappointed as it's not what I am looking for and paid the local tobacconist brick and mortar price. Moving on....

This is a great improvement for peterson aromatics. I like the broad cut and the quality of the leaf here. This is not the typical ribbon cut that will asault your tongue upon lighting the briar. Enjoyble smoke with very sweet scent and taste. Nicotine behaves but it is also present. Does worth a try!
