The sweet, nutty, earthy, woody, lightly molasses and cocoa sweet burleys are well complimented by the tangy ripe fruity red Virginia, which is in a support role. The Virginia also provides some earth, wood, bread, and a hint of spice. There's a pinch of earthy, woody, plumy, spicy perique and a touch of sugary black cavendish, too. The licorice topping is extremely light, and does not detract from the natural flavors of the tobaccos. The tobaccos meld together for a well balanced smoke that gives you every nuance in every puff from start to finish. Won’t bite or get harsh, but it does sport a minute rough note. Burns cool and clean at a slightly slow pace with a very consistent, mildly sweet, nutty flavor. Leaves almost no moisture is left in the bowl. It requires a little more than an average number of relights. The nic-hit is a couple of steps past the mild level. Though it’s medium in strength and taste, it has a richness that perks you up without wearing you down. It has a pleasant, lightly lingering room note and aftertaste with no sharpness, and a mildly creamy smoothness that doesn’t diminish at the bottom of the bowl like some burley blends will. Three and a half stars.

Several months ago, when Mick McQuaid plug was discontinued, I went on a hunt for an alternative, and quickly I discovered that I am very much a burley lover... I've tried Peterson 3P's, (not at all as good), Solani Aged Burley, (outstanding, but different), and a range of others, looking for that sweet, nutty and completely unique burley flavour that McQuaid Plug has. This tobacco is not like Mick McQuaid plug, but I may have found the safe and staple burley fix that allows me to break into the occasional pack of McQuaid that I have stashed for the zombie apocalypse... The tin note is of cocoa nibs and chocolate, with a light, sweet and wholesome scent which I'm probably being overly-romantic about, being that it reminds me so much of opening a Kinder chocolate stick when I was a child growing up in Germany. The tin has a perfect moisture content, and the thick, medium-brown ribbon-cut baccy packs into any size bowl just perfectly. It burns down to a fine grey ash with very little dottle altogether too quickly for my liking, but that's probably more because I enter a dream-like state when I smoke it and lose track of the time, than the tobacco itself burning too quickly. The charring light unleashes the warm and inviting smell of a European cafe that specialises in serving hot chocolate with lashes of cream during the winter, but that immediate impression soon settles into a smooth and pleasingly consistent smoking experience. I've had absolutely no tongue bite even when I'm puffing hard. I can't comment too much on the room note, but the beard note is really very pleasing, and I would heartily recommend it to any bewhiskered man or his gal. In summary, I can't recommend this enough. I have little experience quite as sublime to compare it to, but I do know that it entirely fills the vacancy that I am looking for in a good, wholesome Burley. For me, the only thing that could possibly make this blend any better is if they made it in a plug format for those of us that love a chunk of tobacco to carry around in our rucksacks.

Lucky I was to be gifted of this burley based gourmet blend.

I could not do any better than the fine reviews I’m reading here below.

This blend simply shines. Not easy to find such a perfect balance between Burley & Virginia, the latter being added to the perfect measure over a gorgeous Burley. Smokes cool and unbitey. On the medium side of strength, reinforcing through the bowl, flavor and aroma are of pure tobacco: delicious ! I don’t detect any particular superimposed aromatization, nevertheless agreeing that some enhancer – applied with the lightest hand – may be in the party.

Very very well done: four full stars !

Lovely, dark brown ready-rubbed flake pieces are waiting to be admired. The unburnt scent has a distinctive, rich roasted-aroma to it, which I LOVE about this blend! Maybe even coffee-ish. The scent is suprinsingly sweet (but not overly so), deep earthy and cocoa-y and may have a hint of licorice to it. But be aware, that HU no longer mentions the licorice on the website and states "Flavouring: - "

In the pipe Nashville County also has rich roasted aroma, of roasted cocoa- and coffee beans to it for me. Dark- and milk-chocolate, tart earthy and genuine slightly sweet woodsy notes and I also get a hint of what could be licorice! The Virginias balance the bold Kentucky Burley, add some sweetness (which is less intense than in the unburnt aroma) and round this blend to perfection for my gusto.

It's less chocolaty than the Makhuwa but has its own merits, for me being the intense roasted aroma, tart nuttiness and the delicate wood notes with a delicate sweetness.

Nashville County also is a 4-star worthy blend to me... I love me Burley and his is some top-notch weed with character. Just easy going 60% Kentucky Burley and red Virginia. Update: My first tin was empty within few weeks.. an All-Day, Every-Day blend for any mood and time of the day and very environment friendly!

I began smoking in the early 1960's . Many of the tobaccos available at that time were of the burley-virginia type . Nashville County seems like a throw back to those days when we were not pampered by the likes of Mc Clelland and the Gawith boys . This is a really burley forward tobacco though the Virginias speak for themselves . Here the burley is not used as a carrier of aromatic agents but rather a brash leader in a sea of Virginias . This sweet and smooth mixture is truly an all day tobacco , demanding little from the smoker except enjoyment . It is what I call a true American mixture like the ones we broke our teeth on back in the day , except this is a clear cut above those tobaccos of yester year . The moisture level is perfect , the blend stays alight with one lighting . Just light it up and puff slowly and you have 45 minutes or so of pure flavor and relaxation .If you are a young man , this is what your grand father smoked , though many times better . A note on storage , as with all HU tobaccos , get it in glass right away . HU tobaccos in the 100 gr cans have some sort of different , weird taste , if you smoke them right out of the can . Worse yet , the tobacco will dry up very quickly . Enjoy the smoke .

This may be my favorite burley blend. Although I would still rate ABF higher as a more pure less tweaked burley blend, the two are so different as to make room for both in a burley smoker's rotation. Assuming, of course, you don't mind spending a lot on your rotation.

I was given a healthy sample of this a few years ago and then received an even healthier amount of this about a year after. I just finished off the last of it this week. Although this blend is topped, I would not consider it an aromatic by any means. It is burley forward and the licorice topping is slight and adds as much sweetness as the Virginias do. Together these additions really boost the nuttiness inherent in the burley.

The licorice component is so light that I would have never picked it out as licorice if it wasn't pointed out to me. After I was informed of this, I then could actually realize it. I don't know if it is more a power of persuasion or if I am actually tasting it. In any case, all this goes to prove that at least to my tastes, the licorice is used perfectly since I don't even like licorice and I love this stuff.

200g in the cellar and I will hopefully get some more in before Hans stops blending. Four stars all the way.

Bag note is sweet burley with a slight anise smell. Tobacco is a course cut. This is a really nice smoke all the way through. Starts very light and a bit sweet as you progress through the bowl the perique comes out and it gets a bit sweeter. Not overly sweet but just nice. The anise flavor is just in the background and the perique is defiantly there but not too much. Its a very balanced blend. I could easily smoke this all day. Not too strong nic hit is medium Bowl lasts a long time. Very enjoyable

This is indeed a broken flake of mostly dark brown color with some bright and some black strings. The tin note is beautiful, tangy, fruity tobacco with a cocoa touch. Could it be the Kentucky Burley? I doubt it, I think it actually contains a mild cocoa flavouring.

It can be smoked as it is but I let it dry for a few minutes and I also rub a little more, a thing which facilitates both loading and lighting.

The cocoa flavouring, though mild, comes through first thing as you light the pipe. It is accompanied by a tangy slightly fruity scent which seems to me to come from the Red Virginias. On the background there is a nice interplay between the toasty Dark Fired, a hint of licorice and the sweetness of the Virginias. Nashville County is in no way harsh, but it has some edges, although quite sweet it’s not the smoothest tobacco on earth.

Another thing I noticed quite soon is that while it is quite complex, it needs some attention to get what is going on. To my palate, this is a nuanced tobacco to be savoured (i.e. sipped) in a serene and relaxing setting to get the most out of it. For despite the high percentage of Kentucky, this is not a strong tobacco and can be smoked all day. Yet I find that while pleasurable as an all day tobacco, it deserves more attention than a casual smoke. Sipped it can offer a long pleasurable smoke especially when a sweet, and tangy at the same time, tobacco is what you crave for. It burns completely to a grey ash and needs some relights.

Similar Blends: The cocoa flavouring reminds me a little of Bob's Chocolate Flake, but Nashville Country is tangier overall and lacks the floral dimension of BCF. There are some affinities to Solani's Burley Flake as well..

This is Burley at its best, nutty and cigar-like as only the best quality Burley is. Blended with Red Virginia to smooth out some of its monochromatic qualities and to add some sweetness and zest, this high quality blend from Hans should be high on the list of Burley afficinadoes.

The beautiful burley blend with great amount of Virginia and a pinch of Perique.

Very similar to Makhuwa from HU Tobacco, but I like it better.

Beautiful chocolaty sweetness and spiciness. Absolutely no flavour of liquorice I did detect, which I found great. (I don´t like liquorice.)

Delightful smoke, relaxing and almost transcentendal.

I totally recommend it!

Nashville County, another natural blend of HU- Tobacco While the VAPER blends of HU-Tobacco are really complex and subtle, the Nashville County is a robust and earthy blend. But this blend is not boring or sharp. The taste of this blend is like dark chocolate with almonds. The Red Virginia gives this blend a decent, but wonderfull sweetness.The combination between the robust burley and the elegant virginia is well dosed. So the Nasville County is a tobacco with punch and also a tobacco which brings flavor notes of bygone days. When you close the eyes while smoking, you can see an old farmer sitting on the terrace in front of the house, smoking his pipe :-) A tobacco for Burley lovers and lovers of rustical, fine blended tobaccos. My vote: 4 stars

While i spoke of subtlety and complexity about Louisiana Broken here it's quite the opposite . If Lousiana Broken would be compared to Mozart than this one would be compared to BB King . Fat, robust , earthy , somber and firm this one is straightforward . But the name of the game here is really Burley and burley is what it is and i really enjoyed it . Again , even it's straightforward , Hans managed to keep the strenght of this leaf in a cage by adding those wonderful Red Va that on their turn gives this blend some sweetness and adds to a harmonious taste .

While i imagine this blend was meant for burley lovers i truly believe it can be enjoyed by Va smokers as well .

HU Nashville County - Very smooth easy going blend , Nutty Cocoa burley is mellowed with Cavendish and Virginias. A little citrus and stone fruits . Probably just a pinch of Perique . The tin note smells of Licorice but it doesn’t come through too much in the smoke . No bite . All day type of smoke . Nicotine is low . Great blend . HU tobaccos are worrh the effort to get shipped to the US . Impressed so far . This is top notch for a burley forward blend for myself who usually likes burley more as a condiment . 4

This tobacco just sneeked into my top 10 after smoking it now for several months. A burley forward blend combined with a nice tangy/fruity virgina. The tobacco has oustanding natural tobacco taste. The burley is nutty with hints of chocolate and licorice. The virginia gives a nice tangy sweetness to every puff. The smoke has a creamy consistence and has nice natural tobacco aftertaste. The strength ist medium an get´s a little stronger at the end. Flavour does not get cigarrish at the end like many other burleys. Best smoked with an nice cold pale ale!

I purchased this along with Hadde's Best Irish (see my review). As I favor a good Burley smoke and after reading several reviews I felt Nashville County would be a good purchase for me. Going on my third bowl, it was! A beautiful tin presentation and a half shade lighter in appearance than Hadde's. The tin aroma was one of chocolate cake and not overdone. It is said to have licorice but I was hard pressed to pick that up as such. Only with sucking on the stem once my bowl was filled before lighting could I perceive licorice and very subtle at that. It wasn't anise as in Irish Flake or H&H's Burley Kake, just a whiff of licorice. I'm sure that the overall processing and use of high quality Burley leaf was responsible for me picking up the chocolate. A very solid smoking experience for me and along with Hadde's Best Irish will be added to my rotation. The tobacco itself is reasonably priced and the slightly higher shipping charge from overseas is a small price to pay for such a quality product - and to me, it seems more than 100 grams in the hefty tins Hans packs! 5 stars.

Personal allday favourite #2. Cocoa, earth, sweetness, very smooth and filling body, great smoke. Needs a little drying or might get hot, it's so delicious you might get yourself puffing it faster tha you should. If burley blend in the description makes you think twicw, don't. Its tottally worth trying. Especially if you are into naturally aromatic or chocolate resembling tobaccos you are going to love it.

I was gifted a 5g bag of this with a pipe I bought and must admit its something I wouldn't have bought left to my own devices, however not one to throw perfectly good tobacco away and having given the bag a good 'nosing' I'm glad I did try it. Don't let the 'liquorice' description put you of...I didn't smell or taste a strong presence there was a lovely sweet smell and taste to compliment the robust burley flavour but I didn't get the aniseed flavour. Loved the burley, loved the sweet casing and yes I would indulge in a tin if my local tobacconist stocked it.

I like burley, I use to smoke aged burley flake, a bit to hard for me, and also Prince Albert I liked much. But This new Nashville County is my favorite, if you like Burley you have to try this one, very very good blend.
