In the tin the flakes are pretty loosely packed, circling the outer of the tin and this has allowed them to reach a decent level of hydration rather than being packed tightly together unable to breath. They smell grassy with a touch of nuts too. If I take a flake out in its entirety it must be six inches long. They rub with great ease, they start to crumble the moment I tare them. The flavour of this smoke is quite deep, not just a boring old Virginia taste. The Virginia does make up a large part of the smoke, fresh, citrusy and sweet but the smoke also gives off a spicy touch with a subtle nutty, caramel-esc character. No. 51 gives one hell of a good burn, one of the best I have had in my pipe. I find the nicotine just above medium, not too strong yet satisfying if N is one of your smoking requirements. Tongue bite doesn't happen and the smoke only becomes too warm if stressed.
I find No. 51 very enjoyable so have no problem giving it four stars.
