Davidoff's Danish Mixture is not a very glamorous tobacco blend. It doesn't have a fancy name, and the description of the actual tobacco itself is rather lackluster. This is however, like most Davidoff products, very high in quality.

Danish Mixture is listed as an aromatic, but to my taste it definitely falls somewhere more in the tobacco-flavor centric or semi-aromatic category. The tin note is fairly sweet, with a light honey and fermented fruit aroma. All three components the Virginia, Burley and Cavendish, are cut into thin even ribbons and the result is a balanced smoke that has a bright citrusy taste with a touch of sweetness. Periodically a subtle spicy tang will come forth giving the smoke a wee-touch of complexity. The room note is quite pleasant and shouldn't give anyone in the general vicinity too much to complain about. This is good, well behaved tobacco.

I enjoy smoking this when I am in the mood for something mild with a slightly enhanced flavor. Unlike some of the other Danish aromatics I have tried, Davidoff's Danish Mixture burns well right out of the tin with no bite.

This was my first Davidoff purchase and I was very impressed from the first bowl on. The Virginia shines under what I feel is a subtle aromatic. I know the tin I am smoking is old, but I have no idea exactly how old. It is a little bitey so patience should be administered. It has both a great side stream and room note making a great public smoke.

Just finishing up my tin, I have concluded it is my favortie aromatic to date.

I'd classify this as a semi-aromatic. In the tin, this melange of very bright tobaccos smell of stewed fruit and a touch of maple. Easy to pack and effortless to burn. The taste is mild but with quite a sharp tang from the virginias. Small sips resulted in a flat taste. Deep draws, while cupping the bowl with two fingers to both cool down the smoke and increase its volume, unlocked the flavour. Fruit, maple, milk chocolate. The large clouds of smoke engage the nose, making it a satisfying olfactory experience. The room note is old-fashioned slightly sweet maple, but not heavy at all, and dissipates quickly. A well executed tobacco, just a tad flat for my personal taste.

Please take this review with a grain of salt as I am a true foe of aromatics. I bought this tobacco lured by the Davidoff name and because it was the favorite of a long gone but much admired and respected gent who was a keen pipe smoker. What a terrible disappointment! On opening the tin, the aroma was not as strong as some other aromatics (e.g. Stanwell's Danish Blend) but it was pleasant. The tobacco was a bit humid but smokeable. However, I rubbed some of the thin long ribbon cut (not quite a shag as someone said) and let it air for some hours. Lightly packing a disposable but well broken corncob I keep for trials, the smoke out of the charring light was thick and oily but almost totally flat. The note on my nose, instead of an enticing dessert suggested some burned out fruitcake. The true light brought a fairly decent amount of smoke but less than a dozen draws on, the pipe started to gurgle. Please note that this is a cob that is truly resistant to gurgling even with the dampest fills, having a large "sump" beneath the stem. The blend smokes fairly hot so it demands a very slow pace; even so, it bites like a mad Dobermann! I'm extremely sorry to have gotten three tins of this to ease the post charges. Besides, the price is a true rip-off, just like some fashionable branded polo shirts that at $200 are cheaper made than a $25 Costco item. I shall stay away from this. Will one of the four stars reviewers take two unopened tins in trade for a GLP Meridian one? One Star.

Edit on 03.11.2014 Two years after my original review, I went to the opened tin which was barely scratched. The contents seem to have been magically changed for something else. Now the tobacco is a mild aromatic with a greate base of fine Va's & sweet Burleys with just the right measure of Black Cavendish cased in some licquor that I cannot readily ID. Dark rum probably. The Virginias give a pleasant slightly sour aroma and taste, while the Burleys are full and sugary sweet. Gone is the pungent aroma and the burning bite. It still demands to be aired fully before smoking it, I'd say one or two weeks in a fairly dry climate. It's also quirky on the type of pipe used, going much better in a wide bowl with a light pack. From one to three stars in two years! I have opened one of the two remaining tins and rubbed it to air in an open jar. Will keep the other for a remote future. To Caesar what belongs to Caesar. Three Stars.

This is a perfectly acceptable Danish style aromatic. As others have noted, it is average in every sense without any particular quality of note. It is the smooth jazz of Danish style aromatics. If you are looking for something that will not challenge you in any way, and has no highs or lows, than you may love this blend. For everyone else this is probably not going to warrant a second look.

Like all Davidoff products it is of good quality tobacco with a rather unique ribbon cut that is a little chunkier and less ribbony than average. It has some cavendish, and a sweet mild topping of nondescript flavor. It takes a few tries to get it lit, but burns well enough once it gets going. It will bite a little if puffed too quickly. The flavor remains mild throughout, and the nicotine content is negligible. This is not a good or bad thing, but is worth noting for those considering how this fits their personal taste.

Overall this one is forgettable. It is possible to have both a rich and mild smoke, but Danish Mixture misses this benchmark and this simply lacks anything making it worth buying a second time.

Overall, a disappointing blend. This had some age on it, and so I expected the cavendish to take a back seat. The tin aroma was magical--golden raisins and bread. But this blend, as others have said, smokes hot, bites, and this coming from a careful, slow smoker. Packed it in a dependable old savinelli oscar, but I should have tried it in a smaller bowl, because I did not want to smoke this to the end. There are pleasant things about it: I found that it certainly does not cause gurgling, that the burnt sugar flavor lingers pleasantly in the mouth, and it was an easy light and an even burn.

Although this one will not be well suited for the nicotine hounds among us (of which I am one), it is a very nice Danish aromatic with a little bit of body to it. The taste, as others have described, leans toward honey.

Easy to pack, light and keep lit, Davidoff Danish Mixture will be very pleasing to the aromatic crowd. And, as an added bonus, this blend is very sticky, so you can lick your fingers after packing and get a sweet treat!

I love Virginia blends and this is a good one. Upon opening the tin I was greeted with notes or raisins, figs, plums, etc. The tobacco packed easily and stayed lit throughout, with a good volume of smoke. Surprisingly, I was able to smell/taste the raisins, figs, plums, etc. as I smoked. I was looking for a Virginia with a pinch of pepper in the background and found it with this mixture. Like all Davidoff tobaccos, the quality is outstanding, and I definitely recommend you try this one. This tobacco will stay in my rotation.

This is just awful. Smell out of the tin is offputting. It is the same smell I notice with a lot of the STG modern aromatics (Stanwell, Larsen).

In Germany, we have a souce called Maggi Würze (Maggi seasoning like maggi herb / Lovage). I just hate that in my tobacco.

Unfortunately, this smell is quite dominant in the taste, and it is there till the end of the bowl. Even after airing it out it stays.

In the very background there is some maple and honey-ish taste? But not very distinctive.

The tobacco base seems ok, but not great nor much better than the other STG aromatics, but with much less black cavendish.

Awful, awful, awful.

Davidoff - Danish Mixture.

When I'm in the mood for a tasty aromatic this is guaranteed to deliver what I want!

When the tin is cracked open the aroma is a perfect suggestion of what's on its way. It smells figgy, nutty, sweet and mouth watering! The blend is perfect to smoke straight from the can as it's neither too wet nor too dry. The ribbons are a medium/golden brown, there's one or two dash's of black in there but it's mostly medium/golden brown.

I like to gravity feed this into my bowl and try not to pack it too tightly; that causes it difficulty with the burn. As long as it's packed well getting Danish lit is a piece of cake; a quick toast, a short run on full blast and then "hey presto".. there it is: a good, even and steady burn.

The smoke from this has got to be one of my favourite aromatic's. Although it's sweet from the honey, it isn't gluey or sickly. The walnut works incredibly well with the natural nuttiness from the Burley, keeping it from seeming too sugary or sweet. It seems as though this is the complete antithesis of Sam Gawith's new Demerara Flake; that has a lot of sweetness alone with very little extra taste whereas this has quite a little amount of 'sweetness only' with a good amount of flavour to it.

There's not really much nicotine from this. It seems to be very mild unless I draw the guts out of my pipe.

A bowl of this burns relatively slow. This is great to sit and unwind with if I want something to relax me!

Very simple to rate..... highly recommended, four stars.

Would highly recommend to anyone who wants a mild smoke, with a warm, countryside sort of aroma.

Bought a tin of this because of the praise it gets everywhere; often claimed to be the best danish mixture around. Well, looking at the price of the 50 gram tin (about 12,50€ in Germany), it better should be... After opening, one will see rather thin cut, medium to long fibres of tobacco in color ranging from almost yellow light brown to medium brown. The smell reminds me somehow of raisins, but not in a bad, harsh way, rather light, very natural. Moisture after opening is perfect, no further airing needed before smoking. The blend lights alright, tends to burn hot and get bity, so smoke carefully. Taste reminded me of Mac Baren's Mixture Scottish Blend, just without the slightly overdone honey-topping and an overall lighter smoke, with just a very little hint of vanilla (?) flavouring.

I was a little disappointed at first by Davidoff's Danish Mixture, since it is pretty similar to MB's Mixture at almost double the price. By now, I can say it is a decent mixture, but has nothing too special about it. Somehow recommended, but not a "must have".

I have found that when smoked in a conical bowl, this one improves significantly. I have dedicated my two Poul Winslow pipes to this tobacco...... and I do not usually like Danish Mixtures.

This is my least favorite of the Davidoffs. I am a definite Davidoff lover, but not much of a Danish man. I generally find Danish blends to be two overpoweringly sweet and heavily cased. Many have a heavy Cherry flavor and since I am mildly alergic to Cherries, I find this unappealing. Occassionally I will reach for this Danish when I am in a particular mood as I find it to be the lightest and least sickeningly sweet Danish I have come across. It also tastes and smells to me less like Cherry and more like Raisin or Brandied Apricot. As with all Davidoffs, only the finest tobacco.

If you are looking for a milder Danish, you should give this a try.

I am still fairly new to pipe tobacco and am learning quickly I do not favor most aromatics. I was very pleased with the early draws on this blend. The nose carries a slight sweetness that doesn’t pollute the taste of the smoke. I found this a very pleasant after-breakfast smoke on a cold December morning.

While I have no idea what makes a blend "Danish", I find myself enjoying most I come across. While it may be coincidence and nothing to do with being "Danish", most have a Graham Cracker aroma that pleases me' nose.

The fig/fruit flavoring present mixed wonderfully with the natural Burley to make the aforementioned Windmill cookie vapors - making a gentle, inviting Aromatic. The cut has good thick tendrils and was the right immediate-packing moisture. The lit product was easy to sip and maintained a slightly sweet, nutty smoke needing no attention for all day puffing.

It was less fruity and almost as good as my current Danish; Stanwell's Melange (which replaced my beloved Drew Estate's Grand Central), yet I would have no problem mixing up the rotation with a tin of Danish Mixture.

I call this type of aromatic a "tobacco lovers" aro. This is not a "candy" or goopy aromatic. There's a light, sweet flavoring that's a bit fruity and a bit of honey. After that, the star of the show is definitely the top shelf Virginias. Very enjoyable and first class. Personally, I didn't pick up on the burley but I would agree there's a bit of Cavendish in the mix. I am smoking the last bowl of this pleasant blend as I write. I bought the tin 08/07/14 and started smoking on Christmas Day 2015. Since it took a year and a half to finish the tin, you can surmise I don't smoke very frequently these days. My go-to blends are English but I always have a few aromatics on hand for my evening smokes. I would definitely smoke this blend again but it didn't hit my got-to-have-some-as-soon-as possible-again so I am rating it 3 stars.

Bought a tin of this one in Paris as I was looking for a decent aromatic at the tobacconist and apparently bulk tobacco is unheard-of in France. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised! Very mild flavor and an amazing room note. Gives off the scent you think of when you imagine 'aromatic pipe tobacco'. I say it's mild, but not in a bad way at all.. no zing or bite even if pushed. I find the moisture perfect out of the tin but it must be gravity fed loosely and packed only on the top to start. The ribbon cut packs nicely and stays lit. The smoke smelled so good my wife even asked to try it and did! Definitely one I would buy again I just wish it was a bit cheaper, available in bulk, or both. You can tell when smoking that this is top quality stuff.

Surprisingly mild and well-balanced aromatic with slightly sweet aroma and flavours. Presentation is of mostly light honey-coloured ribbons, with perfect level of moisture. Easy to pack and light. Leaves fine ash and does not bite until pushed. Some users commented on presence of cavendish - it actually is minor (at least in comarison to Davidoff's Red Mixture). What I mostly detected are blended virginias with some burley and a hint of cavendish. Flavouring is subtle and not very complex. It tends towards figs and raisins, which remain consistent throughout the bowl without any late bitterness. This consistency earns "Danish Mixture" top marks from me. Whether or not you like mild aromatics, the quality of tobacco used by Davidoff for his pipe blends is high and consistently reliable. The cut is fine but retains enough structure to allow long, consistent smoke. For those of us who live in places where pipe tobacco is expensive or hard to find, it is a blessing that Davidoff blends are available as duty free when travelling.

To me Davidoff's Danish Mixture is the quintessential old school Danish blend, i.e. it's an aromatic with a typical pipe tobacco scent, but its favoring is unobtrusive, still letting through genuine tobacco taste.

The ribbon cut blend consists mainly of Virginias and Burley with some toasted Black Cavendish added. The tin note is sweet and pleasant with hints of honey and vanilla.

Using the Frank method, I find filling my pipe quite easy. It usually takes just a single charring and true light to get the bowl burning evenly. After that the pipe doesn't require too much attention.

As long as you enjoy Danish Mixture coolly, you're rewarded with a mild, smooth and creamy smoke that is perfect for starting the day. Due to the light flavoring, there's a pleasant taste that reminds me of shortbread, which still lets through the slightly tangy natural sweetness of the Virginias and some nutty aftertaste from the Burley. It's a balanced smoke throughout the bowl.

The room note is real crowd pleaser.

Unfortunately, Davidoff's Danish Mixture is quite expensive, which is probably partly a question of brand prestige.

Very pleasant room note, though the smoking process itself is a bit boring, as the smoke doesn't really develop. Top quality tobacco as you'd expect from Davidoff.

Oh boy, is it expensive or what ? Nearly £14 for 50g.

Is it worth it ? Well yes I think it probably is.

Superb tin aroma as other reviewers have said. It's a little on the dry side and comes in a round tin with a round paper cover that even has a thumb/finger shapre pressed in it for ease of access. All this topped off with the usual ruff.

It's golden brown and so dry I had to dig it out with a pipe tool. A little rubbing then it's ready to load. Delicate touch here will reward you with a fine lengthy smoke that needs few relights.

Taste (inevitably) doesn't reflect the opening tin aroma, but it's still quite sweet with a mild subtle taste. Some of these Danish blends can be a little harsh and bitey, but this one is unlikely to bite unless your'e a demon puffer.

Well worth a try if you're into aromatics and feeling a little flush, and well worth having in your collection.

This is an excellent, mild Danish mixture that surely won't disappoint the aromatic fancier. It tastes mainly of honey and (faint) vanilla, but I do believe there are some cherries thrown in the mix also. It's pretty uncomplicated and consistent in taste, some will be happy to know that it's not excessively sweet either.

Burns easy, smokes easy and is surprisingly dry in the tin. Good room aroma that I can't imagine will offend anyone (if that is a concern).

I don't smoke it very often, though. It's simply too mild to satisfy the nicotine beast (but then again, what typical Danish does?).

First time with Davidoff and it was a very nice experience. The Danish mixture is very mild, it allowed you to enjoy a long and quiet smoke. The aromas from the tin are very pleasant, some honey, walnut, and some kind of chocolate. The Virginias are the most predominant tobaccos in the blend, and the mixture creates a complex and pleasant smoke. It burns very well and doesn't bite at all. Nice experience and now I want to try other blends from Davidoff.

When opened it smelled like bacon, so I was put off and let it rest for a month or so. Then I gave it a try and found something totally different. Tin aroma was sweet, like some sort if berries. It invited me to smoke it and..... revealed its true nature: I wouldn't classify it as an aromatic in the way as the red-green-and-blue series. The Danish Mixture's aroma is... flat, a little bit citric, but nothing else. It is not unpleasant but not as inviting as I expected.

Regarding its flavour, I surprisingly found it spicy. The description at Davidoff's website says it has Virginia, Burley and Black Cavendish tobaccos. Not Latakia nor Perique.

It burns hot (could be because of the Virginias) but without tong bite. Produces abundant nice creamy smoke.

I'll let the tin rest for a couple of months. Chances are my perception will change. In the meantime I can only say I don't find it as good as other Davidoff's blends.

The excise stamp on the tin pointed to 2014. A quite powerful bouquet of flavors immediately came over me. I would say that it was a bit obtrusive, but for most Danish blends this is the normal thing. Vanilla, honey, dried figs, bitter chocolate, a subtle bread note with a slight sourness. Figs, honey and chocolate prevailed over the bread flavor of Virginia, so much so that at first such a combination caused an association with freshly brewed kvass. The manufacturer claims maple syrup and walnut among the flavors, but I didn't detect any of that.

After opening it, I realized that I would have to postpone my acquaintance with the tobacco for a day - it dried out a bit. I poured the tobacco into a jar for moistening, while looking at it. The color of the blend is even, light brown, with dark cavendish and straw, almost beige virginia. The cut was a fairly even ribbon.

The next day I tested the tobacco and found it quite suitable for smoking. The smell had changed slightly - there was a subtle nutty tone. I filled the pipe easily and lit it just as easily.

A sweet, even slightly cloying honey and fig flavor overlaid on a base of Virginia, hay and bread. After the first couple of puffs, a slight viscosity of walnut husk added to this. In general, the tobacco had a somewhat sugary, but pleasant flavor. However, the tobacco began to cause problems right away.

First, it smokes quite hot (and further humidification did not solve this problem). At the same time, the tobacco itself is quite light, and therefore provokes me to take longer and more frequent puffs. As a result, I constantly had to set the pipe aside and risked overheating it. The tobacco would go out and I had to light it again several times to make it burn evenly.

Second, the tobacco itself, while light, tasted rather harsh. If I'd had a chance to inhale more, I think it would have begun to bite.

By the time I had gotten used to the tobacco a bit, it had pretty much lost its original taste and bouquet of flavors. They became barely noticeable, and the tobacco itself became a rather faceless, sweet flavor. Fortunately, the harshness was gone as well. The tobacco burned, forming loose fine ash - almost dust, light gray in color. There was no moisture when smoking, nor was there any in the pipe.

The next day I took another pipe and tried again to make friends with the tobacco - the story was repeated, which strengthened my thoughts that this tobacco is not for me. It's light, harsh, strongly flavored and very sweet - but it loses flavor and aroma very quickly. It's hot enough to smoke, so you are warned to be careful with it. The smoke from it is heavy, with a sweet smell of incense and chocolate. Perhaps it needs to rest and I'll try it again. But when the tin will run out, I won't buy it again.

got this from a local store for 24 usd. this tobacco is of high quality ribbon cut . upon opening the tin i smelled sweet maple, vanilla! and somehow dried sweet fruit. it was very easy to pack and packed it straight from the tin without drying time and its easy to light with no relights till i reached 3/4 of the bowl. it tastes like dried fruit sweet but in a gentle mild way, with vanilla taste ! , citrus from the virginia is there , nuttiness from the burley is present when frensh inhaling it irritated my throat don't know way (is there cinnamon in there). the room note was nice and it just smokes like a quality tobacco never less, just don't over puff it or it will turn rancid. didn't bite at all. its recommended for aromatic lovers who appreciates quality while tobacco flavour is still present and ppl around them will love the smell. 0 star for price its expensive 1 star for quality. 1 star it didn't bite (most of pipe tobacco that is well handled will not bite) 0 star for taste ( the only subjective opinion i give and its not my thing)

Sometimes my tobacco purchases follow my pocketbook. I've been smoking Carter Hall for a few months and, as good as it is, getting a little tired of it. So, having a little cash in my wallet I stopped at a local tobacconist and took some time to smell what was in their jars. This one stood out above the others.

Normally I review after about half a tin, but what the heck. I'm halfway through my first pipe and several things pop out at me. The first is a comparison. It is similar to Orlik Racing Green, a tobacco I truly enjoy. Primarily Virginias which add a tangy flavor. The topping has some fruit as well as a bit of maple. The nic hit is a little milder here. Quality of tobacco - this one is good but Racing Green is absolutely heaven.

This one is a little more difficult to keep lit although it is the perfect moisture level in the tine. Not as smoky as Racing Green. Pretty good flavor for a mild aromatic. Doesn't seem to bite but grows a little bitter as the smoke progresses.

When I think of Danish tobacco I always remember Flying Dutchman, which burned hot and scorched my mouth back in the 60s. The nice flavor of that one was not worth the trouble and turned me against Danish blends at the time. However at 70 I'm drawn to this kind of light aromatic. I think I'll try the Sutliff Match Blend of Flying Dutchman when it is available again. It gets generally favorable reviews.

I think that Racing Green is sublime - late at night on a cool summer evening the flavors speak to me. I'll update this review when I'm about through with the tin and let you know. A solid 3 stars

Revisited, 1/3 gone from the tin: I left the tin open for a few days. It was smoking with a gurgle and this seemed to cure it. Plus, when the tobacco smokes steamy it ruins the flavor. The flavor has improved. It still has a slightly bitter element to it. No nic-hit. Pleasant, and tingles the nose, and pleasant on the palate when the smoke is done. Nice enough but the slight bitterness keeps it from being great.

Final review - a little too strong in nicotine for me. I won't be buying it again.

I came back to pipe smoking a few months ago and the first tobacco I tried was Davidoff's Scottish Mixture which excited me, then I tried the flake medallions which were even better and after that, at the pipe agent's suggestion I bought the Danish Mixture which sadly disappointed me. It did so because as I realised I prefer non-aromatized tobacco which I have been smoking since. So the Danish Mixture has been left in the tin unsmoked as I could find no use for it. That is until today, when having smoked a lot and frantically, I felt I was fatigued and wasting my precious other tobacco without being able to sense anything pleasurable anymore. Still I wanted to smoke on, so I decided to give Danish another try. And it worked! For starters it contains fairly good quality of tobaccos which behave well, they light easily, stay lit, produce abundant smoke, smoke fairly dry and do not bite in any considerable degree. Then the enhanced aroma and flavor - 'in your face' - compared to non aromatic tobaccos made a difference to me. The aromas are pleasant, and of mild intensity for an aromatic. They include honey, cocoa, maple, raisins. Yet on the mouth behind the artificial flavouring, the tobacco does not taste super nice and I did not even think about inhaling which I enjoy once every several puffs with purer tobaccos. For an aromatic tobacco, Davidoff's Danish seems good, balanced and not overpowering. However it's not a tobacco I would like to get used to as it offers for me a fraction of the enjoyment other tobaccos give and I only used it to satisfy my craving.

It is a strange tobacco because of blend type, sometimes likes aromatic and sometimes(usually towards the end of smoking) likes nonaromatic.Probably the best description is semi-aromatic pipe tobacco.

Flavoring is certainly between mild to medium and medium, moisture is suitable however may be somewhat drying but extra drying to gain satisfaying taste leads to extra warming of your pipe.I never take satisfaying taste from danish mixture. It smells so good and room note is very pleasant.

According to me,as a fan of nonaromatic tobacco, quality and quantity of cavendish is the only reason for somewhat recommendation and not think any strict fan of aromatic or nonaromatic pipe smokers love it.

It tastes so completely bland. Perhaps the true qualities will come about when it has aged some. I might return to update this review if I notice any improvement(s) after cellaring. Time will tell. I may then have to recant. But wait a minute: aromatics are not made for aging, which is to say this is as good as it will ever get IMO. I've bought some tins a few years ago in France, at the Paris airport duty free shop, and I've smoked the last bowl in December 2012. It's quite expensive, but at average price for selected tobaccoes. Good medium cut and moisture, with a half way between english mixtures (this is a bit more sweet and light) and aromatic danish aroma at opening.

Aroma: not strong, not bad, but nothing more. Not really aromatic, by me.

Taste: quite good, but it lacks something to be satisfying. Very little bitey, but... no real personality.

Room note: mild to tolerable, only sligthly sweet.

Burning: good. Just a little bit on the fast side, but OK.

Best Briars: common briars, not dedicated.

This tobacco is not bad, but, by me, surely not the best Davidoff available: i.e. Scottish Mixture (a good but not terrific mixture), is far better. I ask much more to a premium (and not cheap) trade-mark like Davidoff: two stars and half.

I bought this only because the local tobacconist ran out of Royalty. At first I was a bit disappointed as I found it too sweet. Now that it has dried out a bit, it is more enjoyable and tastes of sultana and banana. The smell from the tin is also not as overpowering and notes of honey, nut, maple and chocolate can be detected. The room note is still somewhat sweet, but tolerable. It requires tamping more frequently compared to English mixture and and after a while it becomes gurgly and somewhat soapy\ashy although barely noticeable. I've blended this with some English mixture and found the taste more appealing and it produced less oil. All in all, it is good quality tobacco but does not satisfy entirely and there are probably better mixtures available at the same price.

I'm sorry to begin my first review on a negative note, but this was a huge disappointment. I bought a tin from an official Davidoff retailer, so I guess that issues of proper storage don't get into it. Fact is, only one word that I know describes this blend, and it's the french "écoeurant". Confronted with Davidoff Danish Mixture, I encountered the same problem I had some time ago with Amphora tobaccos: the smell of the casing is heavy, sticky, sweet and artificial, and it borders on disgusting. I'm trying to get around this by letting it air a lot in a faraway room (even if it's pretty dry from the beginning). Smoked outside it allows for pleasant moments, all in all; indoors it develops an oversweet cloud that satiates your senses way before the bowl is over. Perhaps it's me, but I can't seem to find a way to get on the wavelenght of these tobaccos. Gimme natural virginia any time... When I think that I could have bought a tin of 965 for about the same price, I feel like kicking my own derrière.

I tried this once and maybe it was how I was smoking at the time, it was a wonderful change of pace, a nice mild Danish. Since then, I've tried two cans over time and found the same thing, great flavor, and a real tendency to bite if smoked too fast. Also, if you let this blend dry out a bit, it will also smoke hotter, so keep it humidified. Where I've seen it in stores, it tends to be more expensive than it's worth, but if you like Danish blends, it does have a great flavor, and is a good big bowl pipe blend.

This may become my favorite tobacco. The overall pleasantness of the smoking experience is what makes it attractive. It is pleasantly relaxing, has good and varied flavor, and has pleasant room note.

Flavor is delightfully complex, but seems to vary with ambient humidity and temperature and the pipe it's smoked in. Every day it's a little bit different.

I have had flavors like strawberry, buttered popcorn, rose, rum-like liquor, and several unidentifiable but pleasant flavors appear in some of the puffs. It's delightful that way. There is no definite persistent flavor except that it tastes like good tobacco with these occasional bursts of surprising flavor. I like this understated fine quality. I have had other tobaccos with occasional bursts of good flavor, but this tobacco has the most pleasant and varied flavors.

I tried this tobacco because I was looking for a tobacco that has good flavor and a pleasant room note. That is in reaction to other tobaccos I have tried that have pleasant room note but not much flavor. This tobacco has both good flavor and good room note, so it's pleasant for both the smoker and people who smell the smoke.

My favorite pipe for this tobacco is the Savinelli 207.

Technique notes: My smoking technique is to focus only on smoking. No reading or work or other distractions. Just enjoying the smoke. Outdoors only. A few bowls per week of pipe smoking. Lightly charring the tobacco initially and with relights. Sipping. Occasional retrohale. Peterson pipe lighter with smallest practical flame. Sometimes a BIC EZ Reach lighter.

Am using a variant of the Frank method to pack a 2/3 full pipe without first putting loose tobacco in the bowl. I just take a wad of tobacco and press it into place Frank-style. Tobacco is stored in OXO POP container with size 60 Boveda 72% pack.

Savinelli 207 smooth is my favorite pipe and favorite pipe design.

Now. This has to be the best aromatic tobacco I have tried yet! Clearly dominated by the Burleys and the golden Virginias, DM contains very little Black Cavendish. The cut is mostly Ribbon with a minority of Coarse and Broken Flakes. The tin aroma is delicious and not your typical aromatic one. I can't recall smelling anything similar to it. The fig and honey are very present and it smells goood. To the point where I was a bit worried that it would not smoke great and completely intrude on the tobacco taste. But it did not. The Burleys bring enough body to the mixture to make it satisfying and provide a minimum of nicotine. The Virginias add natural sweetness. The casing is quite present but I was always able to make out the tobacco taste without seeking it. The burning is constant and it smokes well all the way. Past mid bowl things beef up slightly and the tobacco taste displays more presence. The nicotine level is between mild and medium. I have just finished the tin and I am impressed by this offering. The tobacco has been appropriately aged before tinning and is of very high quality. This is a winner in the aromatic category. For those looking for a stellar aromatic that is satisfying and will please your entourage, search no more and give this one a try.

Onwards, then. Simply put, Danish Mixture is a very pleasant experience. Opening the tin, you are presented with dark fruits, raisins, peach/apricot and a rich sugar smell. Perhaps Honey, brown sugar, or a even a whiff of molasses. Fruit cake is what comes to mind, for me.

Tobacco is light in colour, small flecks of black for contrast, cut in a consistent ribbon cut. Ribbons are a good length, and moisture seemed to be just right. It lights nicely, burns evenly and smells, ah, just smells like it knows what it's doing.

The room note is quite simply wonderful. Light and refreshing. I picked up some lilac and roses. Very slight anise/cinnamon spice as honey comes back and leaves a faint trace in your mouth. Perhaps dry is a suitable comparison. Not hordes of smoke, just creamy, smooth, mild and cool under normal smoking. If you smoke like a chimney, it will burn you. Retrohaling unlocks this subtle masterpiece.

Let me explain, no there is too much. Let me sum up. Danish Mixture is honestly an excellent example of a job well done. It might not have all the bells and whistles or perks and quirks of the new kids, but it doesn't need to. It isn't overhyped and while it is expensive, it's constantly consistent, proving itself to be reliable time and time again. It might not be for everyone, but for those who appreciate it, you're rewarded.

While there are a coven of movies to compare things to, for me, this is a Princess Bride of tobaccos. It's humble, tasteful, rewarding, and engages you through it's charm. While you won't find all you could ever hope for in a blend, nothing feels like it shouldn't be there. It doesn't have a learning curve or some fanciful, pretentious way of bringing it all out. It just is, somehow. With that said, as excellent as it is, if you burn too hot, it has a Fire Swamp, but the hissing gives it away and it is easy to get back on track. You can tell it was intentionally and purposely made to be savoured. You can come back to it to try and find that little something that you might have missed, but really you're back because you missed it. A benchmark Aromatic that's earned it's place as a standard. It effortlessly and reliably reminds you that this is a high quality tobacco that delivers again and again.

Simply put, it does many things right and ticks the 3/4 boxes. Price is the empty box, the ticked three are as follows.

Easy to find, easy to smoke, easy to enjoy.

Hats off.

As a fan of Davidoff's cigars, I figured I'd try their pipe tobacco!

This has the best, warmest, highest quality tin note I've ever smelt- reminiscent of nuts, figs, and honey, I actually have to keep myself from regularly going down and opening up the tin just to take a few whiffs! (Can't have it drying out on me!)

The moisture content was perfect, it's smokeable as is but I do like to dry it out for 5 mins. The tobaccos feel very high quality. The smoke itself is a little dissapointing compared to the tin note, it comes out very mild, but you can definitely taste the flavours on the retrohale. It's also a lot more expensive than other blends atleast here in the UK, so better saved for times when you feel like having a smooth light-hearted pipe sesh.

Overall a pleasant blend, but better to smell than to smoke.

Let me start off by saying that I am smoking this as I'm writing the review. I could say this is not no ordinary aromatic. At first it burns rather hot then cools down somewhat. Not too much of a tongue bite. All in all its alright, the reason I only gave it 3 stars is because of the price. The price of this tobacco can be on the expensive side.

AS expected from Davidoff, the Danish Mixture is a very pleasent blend, i tried alot of blends including Blue Mixture, Captain Black (Light, Gold, White,Royal) Erin Moore, Prince Alber and Royal Comfort as an example, but found Danish Mixture is the best. My wife likes its room note too much. The first time you open the tin you will be astonished of the gratifying scent. My opinion is that Danish Mixture is not a whole day smoke, i prefer to smoke it while reading my favourite books, for relaxation.

Difficult to pack. The first time I tried this, I had to repack my pipe a couple of times before I got it right. I tended to end up with my pipe packed too tightly. Could it have been too moist straight out of the tin?

I can't get this tobacco to burn smoothly, but it tastes terrific, and it needs a large bowl. (It tends to fall flat in a smaller bowl). The taste is somewhat sweet, definitely fresh and fruity.

One of my favourite sweet blends.

Mild aromatic composed of high quality Cavendish mixed with lemon Virginias. I usually try to relate the taste of aromatics to everyday tastes and aromas, but this one doesn't fit any comparison. Almost no tongue bite for an aromatic, easy to pack and smoke. Anyway, it doesn't fall into my top rated aromatics, mostly because it's a little bitter towards the end of the bowl.

3 stars for quality, 2 for personal taste.

Well, you know, this might be a good advertisement; I traveled about 250 miles to get three tins of this tobacco!

I used to smoke Captain Black White, and then suddenly it was not available anymore in the markets. I thought I can go get some decent tobacco instead from the Capital, and I had Dunhill Early Morning Pipe in my mind.

I was disappointed many times after I got there, the only tobacco tins I found were Erinmore Mixture, and I tried this one before it was not so nice (it was wet and sour like a lemon; that was its main defect; in all cases, it is incomparable to Danish Mixture Davidoff).

After a long search, well i come across Davidoff Red (or mild) Mixture, Davidoff Blue Mixture, Davidoff Green (or light) Mixture, Davidoff Scottish mixture, Davidoff Danish Mixture. Then, it was the moment when I had to seek your help, and as I found that the Danish Mixture was rated 3 out of four, I chose it.

Now, I am home, and I am enjoying it. I just find it a little bit different; it is heavy in nicotine (which is something not necessarily negative if you like to get a little dizzy after smoking a big bowl), it burns hot; my pipes got so hot and I suppose it is due to smoking it fast. The taste it great, only if you managed slow the pace of your smoking; if you could not, the only thing you will feel is a tongue bite and burning bowl, and probably a sore throat.

It is dry and seldom leaves any wet dottle.

While you taste the mixture, you can detect something that reminds you of Dunhill Early Morning, but I doubt that anyone would notice it. The taste is intoxicating; I can not describe it but all I can say is that it is great.

Out of all pipe tabacco out there, Davidoff's quality is definitelly unquestionable. Having said this, their blends often lack the complexity or boldness of some true classics, and this is true of the Danish Mixture also.

Overall very nice taste of amaranto, chocolate and charries, but with few suprises or variances throughout, hence lacking the special punch to make it a 4 star blend.

Having just migrated from Cuban cigars to high end pipe tabacco, I particularly enjoyed the balanced and refined taste, lack of bite and the naturalnes of the tabacco (without to many huimidifying chemicals, so common these days in many blends).

I am currently going trough the entire Davidoff line and have found the Danish and the Scotish blends to be among my favorites in the serach for a comparable experience to top of the line Cuban cigars.

I agree with Orka's review, by and large. Nice sweet topping on a very easy smoking, top quality tobacco mixture. None of the harsh, resinous taste that some Danish mixtures hit you with. No goop. Just a really pleasant taste from top to bottom. I want another bowl right away, which means there is no nicotine present.

Very tasty if you want a not-overdone mild but flavorful smoke. Really classy.

Update: Subsequent pipefuls make me downgrade a little. It smokes well, but is not interesting in the same way that Peterson Gold Blend, for example, is. Good tobacco for a new smoker, as it is very well behaved.

This is my first review for any tobacco and it is also my first pipe tobacco so i hope i did a ok job of reviewing.

When i opened the tin the aroma was lovely, a bit like fruit cake with a bit of maple to it.

The tobacco was easy to light and keep lit was not too strong, with little to no tongue bite.

i found it to be highly enjoyable and i will look for this again.

I let this tobacco air-dry for 20 minutes, and was rewarded with a Danish honey smoke that lasted nearly an hour. This reminds me of MacBaren Mixture, but I think I like it a bit more than that Mac.

Some depth partway through the bowl, but a nice monochromatic treat. Quality leaf with a good nose, too; the tin aroma is wonderful. Little tongue bite.

I will enjoy the rest of the tin, and will probably buy more.

This is a wonderful blend. It is very mild with zero tongue bite. The taste reminds me of honey and perhaps a whiff of maple. It burns to a clean dry ash. I can compare this blend to Larsen's Blend #80 which I love. If you like aromatic danish type tobacco then try this great blend.

This is the davidoff version of the typical Danish mixture. It is not unlike the WO Larssen selected blend no 50, but with more of a cherry casing. It is better a few months after opening the tin, it needs some drying out. It comes in typical davidoff ribbon cut and is an elegant tobacco. Somewhat more likely to burn your tongue than other Danish blends (except Mac Baren?s ? but these are really quite different than what I find typical Danish are). What makes this one good, is it?s nicotine content. Mild to medium, but I can definitely feel little buzz after a big bowl of this.

A very nice, not at all gooey or syrupy mixture of toasted Black Cavendish, Burley and mild Virginias. Similar to some of Larsen's offerings, and far superior to other similar Danish concoctions (Petresen & Sorensen, Skandinavik, MacBaren), this one has a very elegant aroma and the taste is very refined: sweet and nutty, but not overwhelming.

In the tin, the tobaccos comes slightly moist, but not sticky. The leaf used is of a very high quality and itis easy to pack and light. It does lack body and structure, but overall it is a very refined and civilised smoke. Careful with its mildnes: it can lead to tongue bite.

In the tin it smells like a cherry-heavy fruitcake aged with rum, quite nice & sweet. Smokes well & cool- with that cherry flavour dominating slightly above any natural tobacco taste, there is some virginia sweetness coming through there as well though, but mildly. No evidence of tongue-bite, although the second half of the bowl tended towards sharpness & the flavour was dissapating- common to aromatics. Though I found it tolerable & a bit of normal tobacco taste coming through towards the end. All in all - a good quality smoke, recommended.
