Gents this traditional South African Blend is unlikely to go out of fashion - ever. It is inexpensive, mild enough for an all day smoke, has a great 'honest' room note, and a burley like appeal. I will never have this blend missing from my list.
I have always pulled up my nose at this blend until some elderly gentleman basically put it in my pipe and handed it to me.
It has a very light burly taste thats is unlike most burly mixtures in that it does not get bitter. Its mild tasting with a decent tobacco flavour and medium vitn. Its not bad. I have been smoking this exclusively for a few weeks and am not tiring of it.
Its well priced and a very decent smoke. What more does one want?
This is as advertised, a very nice smoke for every day puffing. I however find it has a tendency to die on you when you least expect it.
It is a very nice "neutralizer" for some of the aromatics out there. It works particularly well for Rum & Maple. This particular mixture however has a tendency to engage you in conversation halfway threw the bowl. Thus, keep a pipecleaner handy, or practice your wrist flick, actually my favorite way to get rid of oil.
I grew up with my dad smoking this tobacco and the smell of it is what inspired me to take up the fine art of pipe smoking. This tobacco is suprisingly good considering the price and something that you can smoke all day. It also works good in house blends, especially when paired with an aromatic.

This is the only tobacco I have smoked for over ten years after trying various other types and not finding anything suitable. I really dislike any tobacco that has even a hint of flavouring. I am going to be working in Dammam Saudi Arabia from October does anyone know where to buy tobacco that side?
Alright so while on my piping journey I noticed this at the counter on my way out of my local supermarket... I purchased a 100g bag.
This is a typical African tobacco and at the risk of sounding unpatriotic, I won’t be buying it again. But let’s be fair... I prefer aromatic tobaccos. It is a good tobacco and I am sure that many pipers will adore it! Your partner will not be impressed if you smoke this indoors, this is a tobacco to be enjoyed outside. This tobacco gives you a nicotine fix for sure. If you smoke too fast you are going to get bitten on your tongue!
I don’t personally love it ... but if this type of tobacco is your scene please support the South African Tobacco industry and try it!
P.S Once mixed with rum and maple it became a little bit more tolerable - but I still prefer rum and maple on its own.
Final words after my ramblings: Four stars to be fair-I don’t love it, but you might!
It is definitely closely related to its canine brother Jock, yet milder and with a few other tricks up its sleave. The pouch note resembles cattle feed, an earthy/nutty/grassy aroma that is very mild yet inviting.
Lights, pack and burns well, producing a mild taste that translates accurately from the pouch note.
Not something that "could" be smoked any time, but something that is smoked throughout the day for nothing more than the absolute pleasure it is. Unpretentious and comforting.
