Borkum Riff Classic Pure Tobacco is a premium quality mix of Virginia and Oriental tobacco in a light casing. A captivating mix of dark and bright tobaccos with an authentic tobacco flavor and agreeable aromas of plum, nuts, chocolate and coffee. Improved smoking characteristics give the tobacco a more even, slightly slower burn, making it easier to light and smoke. The perfect choice for pipe smokers who seek a rich, full bodied tobacco taste.

Quite strong, really harsh, hot burning, fiercely biting cigarettish-smelling stuff. Orientals are definitely present and Virginia used is totally devoid of sugars. I think there's some Burley in it as well as hot rye bread notes are often prominent in the flavor. Actually, this is not intended for savouring and seeking subtle shades of flavors but just for satiating your nicotine crave. I would only recommend this when the only option to get any tobacco is at the nearest gas station store and when the choise there is limited to this one and a couple of "drugstore aromatics". Otherwise don't touch it.

This is a pure mixture of Orientals and Virginia. dry, burns hot. I dont detect any flavour in this tobacco. Only tastes fully strong tobacco, but full neutral . Also, i consider it too strong for regular smoking. So strong that is impossible to smoke it pure! Not recommended as pure tobacco, but may be good for mix with other pipe tobaccos, for making personal mixtures.

Or, in other words: hot as the griddles of hell, cheap-tasting, cigarettish and nasty in every way: another blasphemous offering from Borkum Riff - dreadful beyond dreadful. I do not understand why people go on buying this kind of dreck, though evidently they do, since the Borkum Riff people manage to remain in business, alas. 'Classic Pure Tobacco' - the name is an unfunny joke - has nothing whatever to recommend it. The people who make it ought to be condemned to smoke it for all eternity.

Due to new tobacco laws in Quebec, all flavored Tobaccos have been pulled from the shelves. The (apparent) replacement to BR CPT would seem to be Borkum Riff Authentic, as it most closely fits the description, and my experience is similar to the review below. I purchased a new pouch, which has the contents printed on the interior, so that you are obliged to purchase and open the pouch in order to read the description. The aroma in the pouch was not enticing, and the tobacco was very dry, considering it was a fresh pouch. Cut is OK, loads easily. This tobacco I found to be disgusting. Burns hot, not much taste, just acrid smoke. It actually made me ill. I have tried various blends of tobacco from various manufacturers, and although I may not like a blend, no tobacco has ever made me ill. This would seem to be a "when nothing else is available at the drugstore" tobacco for someone who desperately needs something, anything, to smoke. Myself, I will not touch it again.

I`ve never liked this brand "Borkum Riff".After lots of propaganda I saw for this blend, said maybe there would be a difference. But very disappointing! It is like heavy havana cigars with unpleasant room note.

I found BR Classic in a convenience store. As my choice of tobaccos is limited I gave it a try.

This is very moist shag cut tobacco (to the point you could hand-roll smoke it). The aroma, indeed, is very natural: almost cigarette like, with a whiff or Orientals. Mind you, this is no Campanille (old version).

For a moment I though I was smelling Camel cigarettes. Not at all bad, but by no means you'll get a whiff of anything remotely close to “plum, nuts, chocolate and coffee”. On the contrary, this is straight tobacco aroma, very similar, say, to Golden Virginia hand rolling tobacco.

It's a medium strength smoke, verging on the hot side of combustion. Its palatable in the sense a cigarette is: neutral, smoky and slightly salty, on account of the Orientals. There's none of the natural Virginia sweetness you taste in a flake or matured cake. If pressed too hard, you'll get some tongue bite. The aroma, again, is of pure cigarette. For a Borkum Riff this one is truly an achievement, but there's nothing exiting here: just plain, natural tobacco. I would “somewhat” recommend this as an intriguing change of pace for the established smoker, and recommend it (hence the three stars) to the cigarette smoker wishing to kick the habit in order to venture into pipe smoking.
