The earthy, woody, lightly spicy, herbal, vegetative, tea-like, floral cigar leaf has some boldness, and doesn’t over power the other tobaccos. It is the lead component. The red Virginia offers tangy dark fruit, wood and earth in a supporting role. The earthy perique is a minor player, but adds a little spice along with raisin and fig notes. Sometimes, it’s not very noticeable, and at best, adds some complexity. The Cyprian Latakia is lightly added for smoke, earth, mustiness and wood. The unsweetened black cavendish helps smooth and temper the blend with a little brown sugar. The reason this well balanced mixture works so well is because the supporting players add enough of their inherent qualities to take the edge off of the cigar leaf. The strength is a couple of steps past the medium mark. The taste is in the center of medium to full. Has a medium nic-hit. Burns cool and clean at a moderate rate, fairly smooth with a little creamy sweet, floral, savory, rugged, mostly consistent flavor to the end. Has no harsh or dull spots, and won’t bite. Has few rough edges. Has no bitterness at the finish. Hardly leaves any moisture in the bowl. Requires an average number of relights. Has a pleasantly lingering after taste and pungent room note. Three and a half stars.

Habana Daydream is a must try tobacco. Similar blends? Well, maybe Robusto if you tossed in some extra Perique. I found this combination of flavors to meld perfectly. I did taste the cigar leaf, the Latakia, the Perique and the Virginia in varying waves. Some puffs left me with the impression of sweet Virginia. Other puffs left me with an almost Dunhill Nightcap type of sensation with Latakia and Perique.
This one has a lot of muscle, too. Nicotine content is indeed high. And as for taste, once the bowl is consumed you'll know you just had a smoke.
Good job, C&D!

I received a couple ounces of this blend a few months back in a sampler that also contained Key Largo. I "jarred" the tobacco and cellared it away. I smoked some of the Key Largo and liked it so much that I ordered a few more tins. I finally got around to trying the Daydream last night and it was a wonderful experience. The smoke was smooth and the flavor was quite good, both during the smoke and afterwards. The Latakia is with you through the bowl and the Perique sort of jumps in and out at frequent intervals. The cigar leaf lends itself to my memories of a few fine cigars I smoked years ago but this is still fine pipe tobacco and smokes as such. The smoke is so smooth, mellow, and satisfying that like a really good story you just don't want it to end. There was definitely nicotine in the bowl but I didn't find it overpowering. If you're looking for a great, well-rounded, flavorful smoke I highly recommend Habana Daydream.

This is my first review for this site. After a 20+ year hiatus, I am rediscovering the joys of pipe smoking. After spending a couple months sampling over a dozen different blends, this is the one I keep going back to.
I originally called C&D to order some Billy Budd, from the recommendation of PipefriendCHS. The nice lady at C&D included Havana Daydream in the sampler pack, thinking that if I liked Billy Budd, I would also like HD.
I tried the Billy Budd, and was not really impressed. Because of that, I didn't really want to try the HD, thinking if I didn't like BB, I wouldn't like HD. Well, how wrong I was!
HD is a great smoke! Full-bodied, smooth, cool burning. I'm enjoying a bowl as I type this, and I really love it. Yes, you can taste the cigar leaf, but it's not the same as smoking a cigar. It's definitely a pipe tobacco: rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. I can't detect the Latakia in this blend at all.
I recently acquired a tin of Dunhill Nightcap via eBay, and the comparison can be made between HD and Nightcap, in that they are both full-bodied, complex blends. However IMHO, HD wins hands-down. When my 2 oz baggie runs out, I'm calling C&D for more.
I love a smoke with coffee in the morning, HD would not work well in that context. It's also not an all-day smoke for me, not yet anyway. But after hours, when it's time to relax and contemplate life, HD really shines. Try it yourself and see. Two thumbs way up for this outstanding blend.

As close to a cigar as I've been able to find in a pipe blend. It's still a far cry from a cigar. Complex and flavorful, it's a very satisfying smoke. When I want a change of pace from the English, the Balkan, the Virginias, this is what I go for. A great blend.

Getting back into pipe smoking after being away for 25 years, I thought I'd enjoy aromatics as in the past, and while I do, I'm very surprised at how much I enjoy this non-aromatic.
I smoke an occasional cigar but truly prefer the pipe and this is a great smoke that gives itself to that of a cigar., But I'm not certain what cigar is actually this good. Unlike a cigar that I find goes rancid towards the end; Habana Daydream stays wonderful from beginning to end.
My wife tells me that she enjoys the smell of this tobacco, reminding her of what her dad and uncle use to smoke many years ago.
Buy a Bag and enjoy.

Update: I've always been a piper who, for decades, always smoked several different blends, never really stopping on one for long. This, however, is now pretty much all I smoke now with an occasional pipeful of something english. Flavor is great, never ever been bit. Smooth as a babies butt. Truly a great blend and very highly recommended for those who like a unflavored straightforward smoke where the flavor is all tobacco. Wow!!
I've waited a long time, smoking this for several months, before offering any opinion. I've got a bowl going right now....
Interesting looking in the bag....looks like mostly light VA with some darker leaf and yes some cigar leaf. Tends to smoke better when a tad on the dry side. Easy to load, I prefer a "medium tight" packing though looser seems to let some flavors out. Stay lit with only a few relights. The taste is mysterious, almost difficult to describe. I get the VA's out front and they are top quality. The perique and any other leaf, including the cigar leaf hangs out near the back, always there and helping the overall flavor. It's a rich smoke, on the strong side, always satisfying. The first few bowls I wasn't too sure about this stuff but on a daily basis I find myself reaching for this, especially at night when hanging out in front of the computer and my radios. I don't detect any casing or flavoring, just 100% really fine tobacco. "Cigarish" yes but not at all like smoking a stogie, just a gentle hint there. Smooth, creamy, never been bit. Yep I really like this stuff and imagine it will be at the top of my rotation. Highly recommended.

My supply of Habana Daydream was limited to a three pipe sample so take it for what it’s worth. I find HD to be a contradiction to my taste. Here’s the good; it burns cool, without a whisper of bite. To my memory, it seems a little sweeter than Billy Bud by C&D, and HD has great pure tobacco flavor with some strength. The sweetness reminds me of the underlying sweetness found in smoke ropes and twists, rather than the sweetness that I get from a good Virginia blend which is often more of the molasses or sweet hay side of things. Now the bad; HD offers no complexity, which in itself isn’t terrible, but based on other cigar blends on the market, I prefer this blend the least. One reviewer called this flat and I would agree. Compared to Compton’s Cuban Mixture, Stoogie, Pease’s Robusto or Robert Lewis 123 Mixture, this simply doesn’t compare. It’s not bad, but I would spend the cash for anymore.

I really like cigar blends, and would have to say that both Habana Daydream and Key Largo are right up there in my books. The Latakia is a bit more pronounced in Habana, and the taste is a little smoother and less "sharp" than KL...not necessarily "better", but just different. Anyhow, a great tobacco that develops nicely, with periques showing later in the bowl. N kick is there but not overwhelming, especially if you're somewhat tolerant. I also like the fact that I can buy in bulk - $30 for a pound is much nicer than $14 for 50g in a tin.

Gentleman, you can stop searching for underrated great blends right here. Habana Daydream is a fantastic smoke! If you're a pipe smoker, this is a must try. It's a cleverly crafted bit of cigar leaf tobacco. Personally, I'm a fanboy and I order HD in the 8 oz tin. I find this to be a full body, complex and heavy blend that is tremendously satisfying. It's on the opposite end of the spectrum as a straight Virginia. One might say the yin and yang of pipe tobacco.
The flavor is robust, complex with main notes of creamy cigar leaf, grassy Virginia, smokey Latakia and plumy Perique, complimented by faint nutty, earthy and sugary molasses notes. You taste the hint of cigar in every puff, along with the sweet grassy Virginia. The creamy and smokey Latakia flavor is farther in the background but steady and present, the perique shows up randomly with a bit of pepper. The Cavendish smooths the edges of this blend nice and silky. After reading it only has a spoonful of cigar leaf I was surprised how upfront and at attention the cigar tastes. I keep going back and forth on whether I think this, or Billy Budd, is more robust. In the end, with the perique peppery flavor, this ends up being slightly more robust in taste. It has loads of flavor without tongue bite no matter how hardily puffed.
This is a blend with some balls. The nicotine is medium/strong, which I love. If the vitamin N has you in its grasp, you enjoy a little cigar note and you're needing a stress pipe, this flavorful smoke will really hit the spot and leave you extremely satisfied. --- Four Stars!
Good job, C&D!

To me this should be be called Heavanly Daydream. This is my favorite smoke by far. Its like a wonderful vaper with some cigar that adds to the complexity of this smoke. I used to smoke cigars but I made a deal with my wife that I could smoke more if I give up cigars. This is the perfect compromise. It is a very full blend that will knock your socks off, not for the novice smoker. Someone before said don't drive while smoking. I have done this without any issues but the Vitamin N will get you so smoke with caution. It is a sweet smoke and the perique is deffinately present wich helps prevent tongue bite. I wouldn't say it's like a cigar but the cigar leaf makes it self known. I like Billy Budd so this is a nice alternative to that, but personally I like it better than billy budd. If you like a good, hearty, full smoke with a nic kick this is one to try. Highly, highly, recommended.

Cornell & Diehl - Habana Daydream.
I don't smoke many cigar leaf blends, I adore cigars (I have one every evening), but I often find it can be too overpowering in a pipe blend: hogs the flavour and can seem bitter. So, for some strange reason I bought this, lol!
It's quite a clean cut ribbon, with only a few twiggy pieces in there, and there's not enough of them to be a hindrance. I enjoy the smoke from Habana Daydream: a smooth cigar quality, on top of quite a complex combination of pipe leaves. These work together to form a flavoursome taste: Rich, is the one word that sums up this confluence of flavours. I get no tongue bite, at any point, and the smoke's just below medium in build.
The nicotine's close to being strong, and I'm indifferent toward the note.
I wouldn't want this regularly, but it's an extremely well accomplished blend:
Highly recommended.

I bought this tobacco as bulk. It is an affordable English blend with some tasty cigar leaf.
First Impressions: You can see uneven sized ribbons of golden Virginia, dark brown cigar leaf and black Latakia. Tin aroma is mostly Latakia and natural tobacco smell. I cannot detect any toppings here. Moisture is perfect, you can fill your pipe and begin smoking without any preperation.
The taste; you mostly feel sweet, tangy Virginia. Latakia is always there but does not dominates the smoke. Cigar leaf adds body and Perique, which is barely detectable, adds some spiciness.
The tobacco burns easy and cool. No tongue bite here.
Verdict: This is an easygoing blend, not very sophisticated but delicious and satisfying. If you like cigar leaf blends, this is one of the best alternatives.

This is really a fine blend, and since purchasing a few ounces on a whim, it has become a steady rotation blend for me.
Sweeter than Billy Budd, Habana Daydream really puts the cigar leaf in the forefront, but with enough support from the VAs, Perique and Latakia to sand off the rough edges a bit.
The Latakia component is second in line flavor wise, combining with the cigar leaf in a way that enhances the darker flavors found in the cigar leaf while providing some extra smokiness.
The VAs are, to my tastes, less the “Citrus” type and more the “dark fruit” type, and add an essential element of sweetness to the smoke-rounding the bitterness of the cigar leaf just enough.
The Perique is way in the background, adding some fig notes and spice, a great compliment against the cigar leaf.
The cavendish serves to thicken the smoke, providing a bit of body and some sweetness of its own, but really just providing a good vehicle for the rest of the flavors to ride on.

EDIT 11-22-2016
I just finished up the second half of the pound I had purchased back in 2012, the first half of which I reviewed below. This one still has not really done it for me. Complicating this further is the fact that I have tried some other blends with cigar leaf that I prefer to this one. From C&D alone, I prefer both Billy Budd and Purple Cow to this for their IMO better use of the other leaves in the blends.
HD has a lot of different components, all of which whisper to the smoker leaving a rather boring smoke. The cigar leaf is apparent though and this should, no doubt, be the focus on these types of blends. It is for that fact that I am leaving this one at three stars, but it actually falls closer to the 2 star mark in my own mind as the two mentioned above, as well as all the John Patton blends containing cigar leaf, GLP Robusto and Key Largo outdo HD with regard to cigar blends to my tastes. YMMV
ORIGINAL REVIEW 12-27-2012
I can't believe with just over a year of pipe smoking I am already writing my 40th review. Maybe this is a natural progression as I have found myself settling into a few different blends I like. I am positive it will take more than a year to get to my next 40.
Anyway, on to this blend. It is my first blend with cigar leaf added and I do taste the leaf. I do enjoy the blend, but after smoking through half the original pound I ordered, I don't find it highly recommendable as of yet and likely won't. I have just ordered three more blends with cigar leaf so I will have something with which to compare. I may come back to this review if anything causes me to change my mind about HD.

Great for a manageable jolt of the N vitamin. But good pipe tobacco, where the sweet Virginia and the cigar leaf complement each other perfectly, with latakia seated far in the background. As someone noted, a real pipe tobacco, not just a cigar in bowl. Not an all-day smoke - a bit too strong and heavy for that, but almost. You know you're smoking pipe tobacco with this one. I smoke only two or three bowls of it every month or so, but when I want to smoke it only this one will do.

I bought this September 2019 along with other C&D bulk tobacco on sale. This smokes smooth, mild, natural sweetness and low nicotine in my opinion. With the cigar leaf added I was expecting a fuller smoke. I have been smoking this on and off over the past several weeks. This is a nice blend but unfortunately for me I had to force myself to smoke this as it is just too mild, too smooth. If you like a smooth blend as in a Macanudo vice a Camacho this might be up your alley.

Like a lot of C&D blends, this is A LOT better with age, which brings out a subtle figgy/fruity tone from the Perique, which is fairly in the background for a C&D blend. It also benefits from moisturizing, as opposed to drying. In fact, bringing it up to the moisture of level of Bayou Night (which comes very moist) raises the silkiness factor to a high level without any bite penalty.
Also, every now and then, a bowl of this will taste just plain bitter and I'll want to dump it out. And every now and then, it will taste wonderful. OK,the same goes with other pipe tobaccos, but more so with this one. I think the hit and miss factor here are the random bits of cigar leaf, because if you've ever experimented with cigar leaf, you realize it can get very harsh and bitter in a pipe real quick.
The predominant taste in the first half or so of the bowl is nutty, figgy, and the creamy Latakia is definitely there. Very full and also surprisingly harmonious. Close your eyes and it's very much like a Dunhill English of some type, despite the different ingredients,
The cigar leaf is usually so well integrated that I didn't even mention it yet, though it is there, always in the background, only really becoming cigar like for me at the very end.
This blend definitely cannot be inhaled, not that I recommend doing this with any pipe tobacco, but the cigar like quality (mainly in the creaminess of the smoke) also translates into "don't inhale". Soft in the mouth but harsh on an inhale, which is not the case with many C&D blends without cigar leaf.
I like this better than Billy Budd, which I find more Latakia forward and inharmonious.

I've had this tin cellared for two years and I can only assume that this is as good as it gets. Well, it's OK, but I wouldn't sell my first born for a second tin. I didn't like "Billy Budd" and this is similar. Maybe a little sweeter but not really to my personal liking . To me, it seems to fall into that strong , " Old Joe Krantz", old style of Baccy. Don't puff too hard on this or you'll be smoking a "Phillies" cigar!

Nose in the jar, this smells a little smoky from the Latakia, but mostly smells like a walk-in humidor at a nice cigar shop.
Upon lighting, the main components I taste first are the cigar leaf and Virginia. The Latakia is a minor player, but is noticeable throughout the bowl. The Perique adds a bit of fig and prune background notes, with a little bit of that horseradish/hot mustard twinge in the nose. It is a very minor player, but you know it’s there. The cigar leaf is handled nicely in this blend. It competes with the Virginias for the lead role, which keeps things interesting, and the room note has a touch of stogie. The Cavendish appears to be unsweetened and helps blend everything together with its smoothness. For the pipe guys that hate cigars: as a cigar guy of 20+ years, I can tell you that this is not a cigar shoved into a pipe. If the cigar leaf has been turning you off from trying this blend, you are missing out. Think of it as a Scottish blend with a little added richness. Definitely worth a try. I think many that hate cigars would be pleasantly surprised at this blend.

The cigar leaf comes through, but with all the other players it brings mainly a little sweetness and earth. The VA's have a slight sweetness and falls closer to what I expect in reds and browns a little dark fruit and bread like. The perique adds a little depth with its note of figs and a faint spice that comes in and out. The Lat. is barely noticed but does have a smokey note that raises its head now and again. The black cav. has its characteristic brown sugar note and I think it is where the blend missing for me. It is too much. If you puff hard it comes forward and can dominate the blend. Keeping a steady pace yields a better overall flavor profile but the brown sugar note reminds me a little of the old crooks cigars. It will not bite, nic. is a med. overall strength with all going on the overall strength gets closer to med. - strong. The room note is quite strong.

Habana Daydream is an excellent blend. While you might think that having cigar leaf will make this a "cigar like" mixture, that's not the case. There is cigar leaf, but it's just one more ingredient, it doesn't have a leading role.
There's the virginia and the black cavendish -without flavouring- serving as a base. Then there's the perique that comes out every now and then to give that spicyness and the cigar leaf to round it up. The result is an extremely nice smoke: flavourful, with a nice body, doesn't bite and the nicotine on the milder side. The room note is quite tolerable, from a tobacco with cigar leaf.
The taste is also balanced: there's some sweetness from the virginia, the cavendish gives it a plain -just tobacco- taste, while the cigar adds some earthiness.
It was a pleasant surpirse the first time and it's a blend to go back to.

I recently discovered Cornell & Diehl's “Habana Daydream” -and I love it. We all developed our own discrete perceptions and memories of the distinctive smell and taste of Tobacco. Hence, and obviously, this remains an utterly subjective matter.
Habana Daydream perfectly captures my sensory definition of Tobacco's fragrance and flavor. It is quite exemplary of a genuine, pure leaf, which is neither edulcorated nor adulterated.
The pleasantly sharp cigar notes form the steady scaffolding of the blend, but do not obfuscate its delicate architecture. The texture of the smoke is smooth and creamy. It is not a complex tobacco, but certainly not simple either. I like to think that the purpose of this blend was to conjure precisely the fragrance and flavor of tobacco in a purer state. If so, at least for this enthusiastic reviewer, it has wonderfully accomplished it.
In fact, although the blend resorts to natural spices, Latakia, Perique and unsweetened Cavendish to adorn the Virginias, the addition of “a spoonful of rich Cigar Leaf” seems to dictate the mood of the blend. This is not a cigar in your pipe, but a sophisticated cigar-inspired pipe tobacco blend.
This blend, “Habana Daydreams”, is not for everyone (as no blend could kindle unanimous consent). If one relishes overwhelming flavors, sweet or spicey as they might be, this will prove quite disappointing.
It may be relevant to add that: 1. Nicotine is certainly at the medium level; 2. If carefully kept in check with a gentle temper, it easily burns to the end with no further relights, after the charring ritual; 3. No bite whatsoever, even if hurried.

This is one blend that actually tastes a lot like smoking a cigar. Compared to, say, Key Largo this one is clearly more stogie. It tastes good and burns great, so there are no real complaints there - technically this is one great blend! Personally I want a bit more pipe tobacco in the profile, otherwise I will smoke a cigar, but I still enjoy this and would gladly smoke it anytime if treated, I just don't think I will buy it myself.

On receiving my first 2oz I was rather underwhelmed. It needs a week in the jar before the flavours really open up.
It has a similar presentation to G.L. Pease Robusto, and the early part of the bowl tastes like a slightly more subdued version of this cigar leaf/latakia blend. Despite the inclusion of Black Cavendish in Habana Daydream I don't get quite the same earthy sweetness of the flake cut Key Largo, the other cigar leaf/latakia blend from GL Pease.
Packs fairly well, smokes at a moderate pace, and doesn't require many re-lights. A large pipe works well for me, and as with Key Largo a wider bowl, a bulldog for example, would be a good choice to smoke it in.
Once you get into the bowl, the perique makes its presence known. This is where the smoke becomes markedly different to the GLP cigar blends. Once the perique emerges it remains upfront, without overshadowing the latakia and cigar leaf.
Generally the smoke develops from medium to fuller flavours as the bowl progresses. I find the nicotine content noticeable in this blend, which I take to be a positive.
Until I tried this blend, I always had an open tin of Key Largo or Robusto; which were my all day/everyday smoke. Although not quite as wonderful as Key Largo, which remains the best tobacco ever blended, I like the price and the perique in Habana Daydream. It has now become my go-to everyday tobacco; not over-powering, but with enough to keep my interest, and great value.

Full bodied with a surprising nicotine rush. The latakia taste is mild and pleasant and blends well with the perique. I am a beginner pipe smoker and appreciate the complexity of the blend but a little too strong for my palate. Experienced smokers will really like, not for the faint of heart.

This tobacco to me, has a great taste as well as a great smell, however every time I smoke it, it seems to give me heart burn. I haven't had a tobacco do that to me like this one does. Recommended, im just not able to smoke much more because I of the heart burn that it gives me, right in the upper esophagus.

Habana Daydream is a smooth cigar leaf blend and satisfies my desire for cigar leaf without getting a Burley overload. This one will give you no tongue bite and you can puff away without fear. I am not huge fan of Black Cavendish and although a nicer touch here it is just a little too much to give this blend my highest recommendation. HD has some beef but no one ingredient, especially Perique, will hit you in the face. It is good just about any time of the day .

When I was a teenager I smoked cigarettes for a brief time. Then I found cigars, it was an instant love affair. At one point in my life, I had commercial humidor in my man cave. It literally had thousands of cigars. I started noticing they all had similar flavor but the big difference was the nicotine hit. I was smoking pipes off and on, and eventually decided that there way more flavor profiles in pipe tobacco. Side note aromatics don't qualify in my book. That being said I sold my giant humidor. I decided to be all in on pipes. I love a good English, Balkan or Scottish blend. Sometimes I find myself missing a good cigar. So I've tried several cigar leaf pipe tobaccos, and haven't been impressed. Billy Budd is a good example of lackluster cigar tobacco. This one is quite good, very flavorful and doesn't disappoint. If you love a good cigar, give this one a try. You won't be disappointed..

I have been wanting to try Habana Daydream for years. But just never got around to it. I. Don't really know what to classify this as. Cigar blend? A beefed up VaPer? Hybrid English? Whatever it is, it's damn good to and very unique.
My sample is 2 ozs bulk. The bag aroma is very sweet, smoky, and slightly sour. Moisture is just right. At first light, I get a the.latakia but quickly it starts fading back with the Virginia coming in with a bright, brown sugar sweetness, a nuttiness, and a good dose of creaminess from the cigar leaf and cavendish. The latakia will pop up every now and then but it just adds body instead of smokiness. The spiciness from the perique builds and accents everything but doesn't really pick up in strength until the last 1/3 of the bowl. Burns cool and clean. Has a fuller body and mouth feel. Does have some noticable nicotine as you go down the bowl which I like.
This is a really nice blend. The latakia never gets in the way which is a big plus for me since my latakiaphile days are over with. The cigar leaf never gets skunky. IMO, they both just help accent the VaPer qualities and the cavendish give it all body and kills any harshness.
I believe this is one of best and one of the most unique blends C&D has to offer. As a english-ish blend, it's up there along Sunset Harbor Flake which is my favorite english they offer. As a VaPer, it beats any of their VaPers I've ever had. As a Cigar blend, it's way more refined then Billy Budd, and not over powering and dirty like Gray Ghost.
As I generally like to compare blends and it can be very subjective, this reminds me a lot of McClellands 9 to 5 and Dunhill 965. Why? I don't know. It just fits the bill and hits all of the right notes for me. definitely will keep on hand. Highly recommended

If you like your coffee with cream and maybe just a little sugar, I think you will love Habana Daydream.. it is a soft impressionistic painting (daydream if you will).. On first light the latakia pops up but it fades into the background almost as fast as it enters.. you are left with that subtle sweetness from the Cavendish mixing with that sort of typical dusty/earthy mild cigar flavor.. as you exhale you get a hint of perique, adding pepper but never feeling strong.. the Virginia, for me, is very toned down by the other elements.. strength for me was medium.. I enjoy the smoothness and it burns pretty cool.. gives you nice hints of flavor.. I tend to prefer richer tasting blends, but this is a nice change of pace.. it almost smokes more like a burley.. feels more like wearing slippers than shoes.. available at a nice bulk price.. I would recommend it for a lighter cigar blend. Just like key largo i find certain weather conditions really benefit this blend.. warm with no wind seems to really make it shine.

Very enjoyable cigar leaf blend, with caveats... It doesn't have the sweetness that Billy Budd has, but you will definitely get the cigar notes. I've found though (like most tobaccos) a super dry pipe makes all the difference with the cigar blends. I'm sure I'm not alone in having two grades of pipes at my disposal: "nice" pipes that I reserve for my relaxing with a movie or book...and my "yard" pipes that are suitable for fishing, yard-work, etc. This blend is just a face slap of burley unless I use a pipe (any pipe) that's been left on the rack for a week or so. All in all, it's good, but it's not Billy Budd.

This blend just didn't work for me. If you're looking for cigar taste in a pipe I guess this is it, but from what I've read there seems to be better offerings out there. My main bone to pick was the overly dominant cigar leaf. It just seemed to crowd out its pals, giving them no say. Not terrible, but...not for me. Ghosted my darn pipe. A one ounce sample might be the best way to take this one for a test drive.

One of my more late afternoon blends I enjoy this with coffee or Scotch. Strong in character and stiff enough to let you know that you are smoking a adult blend. I reserved three pipes for this tobacco. Let sit and do not ever cut it with another blend or it will lose its character. Room note is strong and everyone will smell it and you afterwards. It even gets looks in the B&M.

Habana Daydream is not bad. It smokes well with minimal bite. My issue is that it tastes like cigar coming from a pipe. It does what it claims. The idea seems practical: cigar flavor with pipe hobby pleasure. But somehow it just agitates me. I keep feeling I'm going to choke and start coughing if I inhale even a wisp of its smoke. And it's not my favorite flavor of cigar. I mixed some with CB reg to give it a little sweetness and it made it more pleasant. I just don't think I'll be purchasing any more cigar blends.

I generally enjoy all types of tobacco, but my favorites are aromatics (Lane 1Q, Dan Blue Note, McBaren Vanilla) or mid-ranges (FM Cellar, Balkan Blend) and I generally don't like a ton of latakia.
This blend was gifted to me, and I decided to try it this morning before reading or knowing anything about it. The pouch just said "Day Dream" on it.
It packed and lit easily. After a few good puffs to get it going, I immediately thought (I taste cigar). But, I had not smoked a pipe in a few days, so I thought maybe it was just my tastebuds readjusting to the taste of tobacco. I really was expecting a sweet aromatic.
I could taste cigar, but there was also a sweetness and the flavor of good pipe tobacco. The cigar was not overpowering. It is a perfect balance between pipe flavor and cigar flavor. This is a great blend and folks who enjoy cigars should definitely give this a try.

Make no mistake, this is a terrific tobacco. It just isn't for me. There is a much bigger nicotine hit than I'm used to, but the flavor is extraordinary. (I am also always a little suspicious of Perique. I understand there are only a few barrels of Perique even grown anymore and what is sold as such is burley 'gussied-up' to taste like Perique. My question is how do I judge something I've never really tasted?) I will probably order it again, just not right away.

This is the 6th of the 8 blends I got as a sampler package some time ago. It is by far the best one I have popped the lid to yet. The components come together nicely in this blend with none being front and center. It has a nice hit of Vitamin N. The pigeons haven't dropped off the roof nor has the wife complained at all about this one. So this in itself gets the pleasant rating on room note. It really needs no more than an opening lighting to keep going to the end of the bowl. Speaking of which, all that is left at the end of the bowl is a fine ash. The moisture level is just right right out of the tin. Will definitely have to see about getting this in bulk. Most definitely would recommend this to all.

Let me first say this is an excellent blend, one of the best cigar blends I have ever had. Its bloody brilliant and I will tell you why. First off it burns so nice and cool. You can really taste the VAs and Habana Leaf in this blend. This blend was made for a group size 5 on up. I could really swear it was a cigar Im smoking and not a pipe. A lot of cigar blends are just pipe blends with added cigar leaf. Not this one. I did a lot of comparing to the other cigar blends I have smoked. And this one is at the top of the list.
The tastes of the Habana leaf is complimented by the natural sweetness of the VAs. A lot of the cigar blends have grown on me, not this one it was great from first light to the nice white ash that it burned down to. The blend is nice and light, no tongue bite and no moisture build up. I had 2 one light smokes with this blend already and that has never happened for me on a new blend.
I tested this blend in several pipes, from a group 3 Briar to a very large Gurd Calabash and I must say that the larger pipe lets you taste the different tobaccos more clearly if that makes sense they are more mottled together in a smaller pipe.
I have really enjoyed my several pipe fulls and will buy more of HD in the near future. In my book its a winner.

I've had this tinned tobacco for over a month now and have smoked it mainly in my small Ball shaped pipe.
Opening the tin and looking at the contents was a pleasant surprise to me, as some of the light coloured tobacco leaf is in paper thin sheets, not overly-processed, keeping the natural look of the leaf intact.
The smell of the contents is very nice, what I call, "The Navy Smell", and is a bit peppery, but full of a rich Virginia scent - aged plums. On the medium moisture level, which makes for a fairly easy light.
I smoked this first without knowing what type of tobacco it contained, but for the Cigar leaf.
First light I detect a Red Virginia smell, natural sweetness I like so much! Then, weaving in and out is a slight scent of wonderful Latakia, a buttery smooth Latakia that is like silk playing with the Va's. At first I thought, "Na, there's no Latakia in this!", as it comes and goes. It adds a very nice touch. I detect the peppery Perqiue and the subtle mellow Cigar leaf that adds body to the blend. It is very sniffable, and in that, I mean, I sip it as I smoke it as that is part of the pleasure. As I smoke it further down, I detect the nuttiness of the Burley, so the components of this blend is diversified, but well balanced overall. Other Cigar leaf blends I've tried had a predominant taste of Latakia, so this is in a class all its own. Oooh, ooooh, and there's that Cabbage scent I like so much. Gotta wait for it, as you get towards mid bowl. There are also some grass notes to the blend as you get towards bottom of bowl.
I had to relight a few times, but this doesn't bother me. I use paper matches to not fry the tobacco. I've learned to puff gently, every so gently, to get the most out of a tobacco, and I suggest one do the same with this, as you will be well-rewarded with scents and tastes that will please you.
I'm getting a bit of the head spins as I smoke it, so the nicotine level is there. I've never smoked cigarettes before, just a pipe smoker now for over 2 years.
My first review. I tend to prefer Virginia/Burley blends and Latakia blends. I don't like too many aromatic tobaccos, except for those with berry or floral notes.
Truly a delightful blend, and one I will be ordering by the pound. Great job and thanks to the blenders for coming up with another nice offering from Cornell & Diehl

C&D’s Habana Daydream might be a good choice for someone looking to try out a “cigar blend” for the pipe. Even young it is fairly soft, well melded and civilized, if it’s smoked slowly, which is no problem. My bulk purchase benefited from rest, and I predict HD will be much better from an aged tin, although it still might well benefit from rest after it’s opened. The bag note from my young version is musty, smoky, cigar-spicy, cocoa-ish, dry leaf mulch, with musty, dark, “stewed fruit” way down there. Short ribbons n’ bits range from golden tan to medium brown, to black. Moisture content is fine for smoking on arrival, though it’s tasted better to me after some rest. I pluck the dry veins out and it loads, packs, lights, and burns down effortlessly, at a decent rate. Lit, scents are a more open and fragrant version of the bag note, along with a vaguely floral note. Tastes run parallel, with the soft, dusky, bitter cigar leaf in front, followed by earthy, piquant red VAs that seem to be air cured along with some dark fruit leather from stoved leaf. The Orientals are woody and dry, with savory spices. The Perique is musty and sour, with dried fig and a little peppery spice. Generally, the lot is well melded, and the other tobaccos are complimentary to the cigar leaf. I suppose the Cav smooths and balances this blend, although I must say I could not home in on the Cav at any point. Strength is just over medium. Tastes run over medium. Room note is just tolerable. Aftertaste is like the best of the smoke, only a good deal sweeter, and I’m guessing the Cav has something to do with this.
For the past few years, some of my favorite blends have featured cigar leaf, and at first I wasn’t so sure about Habana Daydream in comparison. But this blend has improved and/or grown on me over time. It’s softer and smoother than young Key Largo (from GLP), and it’s not as complex, but I don’t discount HD for that. Like I said, I am enjoying my current HD more and more, and I’m getting tins to age. Four stars.

I like it. Today I took delivery on 28 ounces, to fill two plastic tubs.
It has a pleasant taste, with no casing or "aromatic" that I can detect. To me it does not taste a lot like a cigar, but then no pipe tobacco does. Even a ground up cigar smoked in a pipe does not taste like a cigar. The cigar leaf is definitely present, but it reminds me of some Turkish ribbon I once had, not a stogie.
It has very little bite, which I really appreciate.
The perique and latakia are present and accounted for, but not right up front.
The pieces are large, and the tobacco does not smoke well in a small pipe unless it is rubbed out and broken up. It tends to go out unless it is dried some, but it dries quickly. If it starts to go out, it can be revived with vigorous puffing, and the tongue seems to be none the worse for it. When it is dry and packed firmly it will smoke all the way to the bottom of the bowl without relights or fussing.
The price is right.

i was lured into buying this in a 8oz tin for less than $14 and although i really am not overly taken by the blend i guess i would count it as money well spent. when i was a kid i started smoking a pipe at a very young age and one of the things i often did was to buy cigars and shred them up and put them in my pipe to smoke, that is what this blend reminds me of. to me the cigar leaf dominates. i do most of my smoking early in the morning with coffee, this blend does not go well with that, it is more of an after dinner blend. i did try it in different bowl shapes and sizes to see if i could taste the other components of the blend and i am afraid i could not get them to come through. i would rate this very highly for most anyone that enjoys cigars.

After a year or two of me badgering my local B&M to carry some bulk C&D blends, they finally succumbed and have started to offer better products. They asked what blend?s would I suggest :), and this was one of them.
I will give the most unbiased review I can, and I am partial to C&D and to the creator?s smoking tastes.
Pouch aroma ? I cannot put my finger on it. It is a naturally sweet, like brown sugar-hay, or something. Also, it is earthy, like very humid peat, mixed with a sweetness. It is very good and unique.
Top O? Bowl ? Lightning is not a problem, and immediately you met with a fragrant bold Virginia/Perique-like flavor and aroma. Bold and spicy.
Mid Bowl - It takes no time to settle in and not one particular leaf stands out over the other. It refuses to be labeled except on it?s own, as a whole. The smoothness of the blends slips out hints of the following: Molasses, Hay, a VA/Per type of stewed fruit, and once in a while a hint of sweet Latakia sneaks up. The nicotine is very present and makes you pay attention. (Caution while driving)
Bowl of the Bowl ? The Cigar leaf does not at all become prominent or in most of the 3 bowls I have tried doesn?t even make itself known. The spiciness through the nose, the smoothed out edges by the Cavendish, the incredible naturally sweet taste and aroma, the Med-Strong Nic level, all give this blend a very special quality. Hearty and satisfying. This should have been sold as a premium tin (glad it wasn?t as far as price goes) and I honestly can say, this is up on the top shelf right next to some of the great blends of all time.
I need to comment, that if you have a cigar phobia or just don?t like them, and have been leery of a blend like this, that?s fine. You need not be cautious with Habana Daydream. In my real humble opinion is not a cigar blend. It is a great pipe smoking experience that bulldozes over the former misconception of ?Cigar Blends?. In fact I hate even typing that label, because it isn?t even a factor, and cheapens the richness and creativity that this blend has to offer.
= 5 stars, Bravo Matt and Craig ? what a excellent smoke!!

A blend that can certainly make you daydream as you let its complexity wash over your senses. The main character of this blend is woody and earthy. There are other notes that pass over your tongue as you puff, such as nutty, spicy, smoky, and grassy. The Havana cigar leaf is accented by the various pipe tobaccos, making this so such more than a robusto in a pipe. The cigar leaf means this is a strong blend, so enjoy it in moments of pure relaxation and don't forget to let your mind wander.
4/4 - Incredibly well balanced and uplifted by the addition of the cigar leaf.
Similar Blends: G. L. Pease - Robusto (Original Mixtures).

This blend smells only lightly of Latakia in the pouch. There is a nice smoky, leathery tobacco aroma. The constituent leaf is mostly uniform brown ribbon, some small chunks of flake, and flecks of black leaf. There are also some drab appearing dark leaves that I presume are cigar wrapper.
I got the same sort of cigar store essence that I got from Billy Budd blonde…plus Latakia. While there is very little visual evidence of the fire cured spice by visual inspection, the Latakia asserted itself to the point of dominance in the retrohale. If I retrohaled more than a few times, I became nearly blind to all of the other component leaves. This is the only blend I have ever smoked where I can honestly say that I enjoyed it more without retrohaling. This one exhibited fairly monochromatic tobacco taste. Per my experience, the Virginias were a little bitey.

First smoke.. not the best moment to write a review.. but..
This is definetely awesome.. Great! Very gentle and delicate, the earthyness of the cigar leaf gives a nice soft body and the rest of the blend gives a nice red fruit.. even vanilla-ish sweetness.. Very Very good and probably growing to a 4 star in my continuation of this review.

This is a very good cigar blend, but I compare it to my favorites from Mr. Pease (Key Largo and Robusto). Side by side, Habana Daydream gets 3 stars. I'm sure it's just a preference thing, so this one is certainly worth trying.

This Habana Daydream and G.L. Pease's Robusto are the best cigar blends I have tried. No doubt cigar loving pipe smokers will love the decent accent of cigar on nice mixture of other elements.
