Select premium quality Virginia and burley tobaccos in a light casing. The agreeable aroma of this masterful blend carries an overtone of nuts, chocolate and coffee. A striking mix of dark and bright tobaccos, Borkum Riff Genuine Pure Tobacco is the perfect choice for pipe smokers who appreciate the authentic aroma and flavour of tobacco.
Bought in Italy in 2012, at average price for a common tobacco pouch. Thin cut, little moist. As described has a nutty (brazilian nuts, by me) and a sort of coffee scent.
Aroma: very neutral and quite natural (but surely not like i.e. italian natural kentucky tobaccoes, like Forte or Comune)
Taste: totally neutral, stays between the medium strenght side and the mild one; it wants to be natural, it seems natural, but I'm not so sure it is... very low biting
Room note: mild, apparently not aromatic
Burning: quite fast, with creamy and dense smoke
Best briars: dedicated briar is not necessary
Not bad, maybe genuine, but quite tasteless and a bit boring. Well, I'll puff this blend in peace till it ends, but I think I'll not go to buy another pouch in the future.
Update: the pouch is ended, and I feel the need to update the review... I've appreciated a bit more Genuine, it's more smooth and pleasant than it appears at the beginning, in its cool, light and natural taste. Two stars and half.
Is a mixture of Burley and Virginia Tobaccos, strong, but not so aromatic. is totally neutral, even tasteless.
It is only for smokers that enjoy totally natural and fully neutral tobaccos.
Similar to Borkun Riff Ultra light but much stronger.
Is a good choice for mix, for making personal mixtures,bu too strong for me, to be smoked pure. After a fews bowl, the smoker will be bored with their strenght.
I disagree that this is the best Borkum.Similar to this, and also bad, are Borkun Riff's Classic and Original, but others Borkuns: The Black Cavendish,Ultra Light, Honey & Orange, Vanilla and Champagne are much better and Cherry Cavendish is the best Borkum,4 stars.
As other Borkun Riff's, this was made in Sweden by Swedish Match, buto now is made in Denmark, by the same company that make MacBaren Tobaccos.
An excellent mixture of burley/virginia, the tobacco seems to be of high quality, on firing, I did notice a strong and delicious flavor of nuts, chocolate and coffee, I am not sure and I dont mind if there is any casing or topping, this blend tastes so naturally good and it will bite your tongue if you puff deep and fast.
You don't need any hermeneutic effort to understand BR Genuine, it's a simple but not banal recipe without frills that turns out since the first puffs: Virginias and toasted Burley is all you can find here and that's pleasant enough.
The best offering from Borkum Riff and the only one unflavored (so far). This is a nicely balanced mixture of matured bright Virginias and roasted burleys that provide a distinctive taste of freshly baked bread and coffee.
This is the cheap, unaged version of Stonehaven with tongue bite. The Esoterica's masterpiece is so good that even that loose resemblance is enough to give it 3 stars.
This is a very good addition to the BR roster... Made in DK by specialists Mac Baren, this blend does not disappoint. It is more dedicated to purists, has no added flavouring or aroma to the extent I could perceive... Maybe a bit of tobacco flavouring - I mean a sauce made from tobacco leaf has been added to re-inforce the concept of this blend... Burns well, no bite, nice tobacco flavour and aroma... try it..
