This tobacco is fine right off the bat, but six months of aging improves it quite a bit, and I recommend you do that. The toasty burley taste is nutty, slightly chocolatey, and a bit stronger and bolder than your average burley. It does sport a mild rough edge. The spice and raisins from the perique is not predominant, and is sublimated by the other components. There's just enough smoky, woody Cyprian latakia and woody, dry, musty, slightly sweet and more sour Turkish to give it extra "oomph". Won't bite, but can get harsh if you puff fast, and you will likely get a cigarette note, too. Has a potent nic-hit. Burns clean at a reasonable pace with a very consistent flavor from start to finish. Needs an average number of relights, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. The after taste and room note linger. Not an all day smoke.

C&D certainly named this one properly. It's definitely burley at the forefront, burley in the middle and burley to the rear. Oh, they throw in a bunch of other condimental tobaccos which do their job - they stay behind and provide a bit of toning and nuance. But this is burley, first and foremost.
The "Big" part of the name is also appropriate. This has a HUGE burley taste! Even the cut is big. Big n' Burley, indeed!
No shortage of flavor here. This is burley at its finest, from the folks who know how to blend it. If you're looking for a "set it and forget it" smoke, forget it! Too much flavor here to sit back and not notice. If you're squeamish about nicotine, look elsewhere. But if you love the taste of burley, look no further. This is an excellent tobacco and I can't believe it doesn't have more followers. It's made a fan of me!

I love this blend and smoke it often. Lots of Burley flavor and heavy on the nicotine... What's not to like?
This one arrives rather dry in the tin and delivers a knockout blow with every swing. I never taste the Perique and the Latakia is so far in the background that it too, can be missed.
You want to grow a moustache overnight? Smoke a bowl of Big and Burley just before bedtime.

When I first smoked this, I was expecting a full-flavored burley with a little latakia and some orientals to beef up the flavor profile. I loaded a bowl and got in the car for the commute and was impressed. The burley is there in spades. It is dark, nutty, and smooth. I never got bitter. The latakia is a light touch and contributes to the flavor in a subtle way. The orientals are an even lighter touch and are hard for me to distinguish. A touch of oriental tobacco can do wonders for a blend in "condiment" mode, and I think this is what is going on here.
The thing that puzzled me was that I could swear I was getting a little perique in there. I looked it up when I got to work and discovered I was not imagining it. It is there and it is just the right amount to add but not dominate.
This is very good. I really think everyone should try this. I have been smoking it in large bowls - pots and a Custombilt. I am claiming this may be a good combo to bring out the flavors.
This is a burley blend first, and it is somewhat potent in terms of strength and taste. If this description sounds remotely appealing, get a sample. This is a solid 4.
Edit 1/3/18: I have decided this has as much nicotine as OJK. It might have a little more. I am basing that on having smoked about 2 pounds of this so far. So - it is on the strong end of the medium-strong continuum. A little of this will really "beef up" a mild blend or an aromatic that is too much topping and not enough tobacco for your palate.
Edit 1/15/19: I went to the coast for a funeral, and I had some drive time. I can say that Big-n-Burley works very well for me in "all-day" mode. There is enough going on to maintain interest. There is not so much going on that you get palate fatigue. The most recent order seems a little less "edgy."

Big and Burley. I only wish that I had been bright enough to conceive of this blend. It is a blend that clearly is neither for the faint of heart nor the uninitiated. My briar brothers and sisters, this is just rough-cut burley w/o much adornment. A little latakia and perique, a dash of turkish, all are like minot decorations on an old Int'l Harvester pickup. This is the roughcut burley show, which bites a little at first light, smoothes out in a grand nut-flavored smoke w/ hints of connecticut cigar leaf, then eases into a pleasant but heady finale. It burns cool w/o much extraneous moisture, cooler and smoother than Edgeworth RRd but not quite as full and sweet,. which probably could be attributed to the cubecut burley in the RRd. Personally, I like burleys. They are joyful for their flexibility and compatibility with some other tobaccos. But, burleys are tricky, and have to be approached with some respect for their potent quality. Burleys by nature have very little sugar so they burn a little cooler but can be harsh in the larger leaf. Unlike VAs which favor a smaller bowl, the burleys smoke best in a larger bowl pipe packed a little looser than normal. B&B deserves a large bowl, loosely packed and tamped frequently to experience its gifts of taste and aroma. My only caveat is to smoke slooooowly and savor the tastes. And, never a Dunhill, too much the gentleman for the burley. A cob with B&B might work to your advantage, or a Carey or custombilt could work very well.

This is a Burley lover's dream come true. I've been smoking a lot of Latakia/Burley blends lately and this is one of the best. The strong, creamy, nutty Burley leads the way here. The Latakia next with lesser contributions from the Orientals and Perique. There's a touch of sweetness and just a slight touch of spice. Not very complex, but full in flavor. Medium to full in body. An excellent blend.

can't add much to what has already been said--if you like good, strong, old fashioned tobacco, then this is for you--
reminds me of what the 'old geezers' used to smoke in the old general stores, or the barber shop in my old hometown back in the '40s and '50s--i've been looking for this one for a long time-- can't believe it took me this long to try it--
if you don't like fairly potent tobacco, give it a miss; otherwise buy and pound and settle in for some good smoking-- __________________________________________________________ EDIT:after six months in the jar, this wonderful burley blend has done nothing but improve--the flavors have melded, and the rough edges have smoothed greatly--it's almost sweet(subtly sweet)and oh so enjoyable to sit back on the porch with; kicked back in the rocker and just relax and unwind while sipping on what may be the best burley based blend in the C & D stable--

I have discovered I can't take latakia in more than a condimental level. Mr. Tarler made this suggestion and after half my sample I can say it was a great one. This is one of the best blended examples of a Old time Burley blend. The Perique, Turkish and Latakia never step out of the Chorous, giving the burlyies the spotlight. Cut of this blend is chunky-Which I like- Supports the frank method of fill. Sweet smokey and nutty- Others have refered to a cigar like taste....Don't get that at all. For me its a great subsitute for an english....Top stars for the Burley lovers and those looking for a condimental use of Latakia.....Not for the drip crowd....

I have smoked a lot of this tobacco and don't know why I haven't review it yet. It's become one of my top 5 tobaccos and I smoke it at least twice a week (I don't smoke pipes that often anymore). Big n' Burley is definitely "The Burley Show" and it certainly is what it says that it is. Full flavored, high in nicotine and wholly satisfying. I can taste very little Latakia and even less of the Turkish, but all the tobaccos compliment each other for a dark and rich experience.
I don't think I would call this very complex and definitely not nuanced in any way. It is, however, very satisfying and enjoyable. If you don't like burley and have a low nicotine tolerance, leave this one alone. But if you love burley, you have to at least try it. I can't imagine one not loving it, if the person loves burley.
At any rate, I have at least 4 ounces at hand any time of the year. I f I get low, I reorder it. My wife thinks it stinks to high heaven and I won't argue that point. Though, I don't really think any pipe tobacco downright stinks, this tobacco definitely has a strong odor. So, smoke it outside so that you can remain married, but do smoke it!

Being an unabashed fan of burleys and C&D blends in particular it should have been a forgone conclusion for me to have tried this blend a while ago. I suppose the name may have made me question the strength of this blend and that was enough to hold off on trying this particular burley. Well I should have just jumped into trying it a while back because this is a great blend that is something that will quickly be in my regular rotation and join the ranks of Old Joe Krantz.
When looking at the leaves it seems to be a nice chunky cut of medium brown with a very small smattering of darker leaves which seem to be the latakia and perique. I couldn't for the life of me find the turkish in there but it may just be hiding. Although C&D lists this as an "English" blend it is most certainly not and if you buy this thinking that you'll be horribly disappointed. It is a through and through burley blend with strength in flavor and I would rate it on the medium-high scale for nicotine but nothing that would give me the spins or create a flip flopping stomach. Just treat it with respect and slowly enjoy it by sipping away on a quiet afternoon. This is not a blend to be rushed.
The taste is pretty straight forward and I read one review that nailed the taste profile exactly: "chocolate covered dirt." It's earthy with a beautiful burley/chocolate taste and an ever so slight sweetness that you can coax out through sipping. The condimental tobaccos rarely ever poke their head out and only briefly can you catch the perique. Even so they add interest to the blend and move it from just a plain burley into something that is blending genius. If you enjoy burley then you can't miss this one. Just treat it with respect and make sure you're not hurrying through the bowl.

As soon as I lit this blend, I immediately liked it. The burley is as described by C&D; naturally sweet. This might be the best burley blend I ever smoked.
Big & Burley never turned bitter and is easy to keep lit. The latakia is way in the background and is faintly noticeable.
I never thought that I would like this, but recent reviews inspired me to give this a whirl. I am glad I did. Perhaps Cornell & Diehl are making me a bit of a burley fan.

Holy Mother Nightshade! This tobacco is a punch to the forehead and cardiovascular system with its unholy levels of nicotine. I regularly smoke ropes and flakes, and this one yields nicotine at the level of a Peterson's Irish Flake or a Gawith Hoggarth Brown Bogey.
This one confused me. Is it a burley? Is it an English? Would this be a crossover?
As it seemed to be what I was seeking at the time, and based on high reviews and low availability, I jumped at the chance to buy a half pound when http://www.smokingpipes.com put all their C&D bulks on a 15% off sale.
I hope this ages well, because straight from the bulk bag it was very rough around the edges. It burns well and relatively cool, leaves nearly no detritus at the bottom of the bowl and is generally well-behaved. My wife never complains about room note, even when I smoke strong English mixtures...but this one nearly got me evicted from my own home. I don't find the room note to be disagreeable, but I am the one smoking it.
I believe that if jarred and aged for a year or two, this one will improve and become much easier to smoke. For now, this will be reserved for those rare moments when I'm trembling from nicotine withdrawal. 2 stars; I see the potential here, but for now it has been relegated to my cellar.

Well, at 5 in the morning prepping to go to a golf outing I dumped what I thought was just some of my jar of Big n Burley in a bag. After golfing all day and sharing this with a friend golfing with me who couldn't get enough of it, I just gave him the bag thinking I had plenty back at home. Imagine my surprise when I realized that was all I had.
I did like this blend, but I am happy to pass it on to a good friend who, I believed, liked it more. This is another so called American English Blends that has a lot of components included in a stout blend. The name Big n Burley seems to be an odd name when you look at the components and I bought this blend not knowing what the elements were. What I expected was A burley heavy blend with a touch of Virginia and perhaps a light topping.
In any case, Burley is the star in this blend and there is no mistaking that fact once you light it up. For a blend with Latakia and Orientals this one is a pretty nice one and may be more eligible for the all day smoke than most blends of this type. It is nice and nutty and has a pretty good spice element from the perique. I find the lat to be pretty light in this one and maybe that is why I find it better for an all day smoke as Latakia tends to tire my palate.
It is a good blend. It did not blow me away nor did it overwhelm me. I may buy more of this one, but am not sure as I have recently reached what I think is the end goal in my cellar, but definitely recommended for those looking for a different take on a strong Burley blend.

I agree with the esteemed and eloquent reviewer to the north. I will only expound a bit. This tobacco is, indeed, a full, heady blend with cigar-like overtones. Unless you are a cigar lover, I wouldn't consider this an all day blend. I could not handle B n' B in the morning hours. For me, I found it best after a full meal, just like a good cigar.
Update 3/21/2014: Upping to four stars. The more I smoke it the better I like it. But, then again, I am a burleyophile, now favoring the medium to strong burley based blends.
A cigarette is to be smoked. A cigar is to be enjoyed. A pipe is to be savored.
I rate this tobacco 9.5 out of 10.

This blend combines all of my most favorite leafs and styles... Burleys and and a hint of English to it. A whiff of Perique, some whisperings of Orientals, a bare hint of Latakia and lots, lots of Burley goodness... it just works so wonderfully and I find the abence of Virginia rather pleasing and refreshing!
The scent is delicious, yet rather musty and most natural. Lots of earthiness, some delicate nuttiness and spice, as well as some "damp mustiness" which shouldn't fool you - the smoke is smooth as silk! It packs, lights and burns like a champ and is best to be smoked rather crispy dry for me.
First quarter of the bowl starts with a nice, earthy and stout aroma which also has some harsher, cigar-ish notes from the burley, even if you puff slow - which one should with this blend, as it only reveals its magic when puffed slow for me - but they aren't unpleasant at all to the lover of tart, hearty and stout flavors.. Progressing through the bowl the seasoning tobaccos begin to develop tasty nuances that - in interplay with the warm burley aroma - really shine. A very 'warm' taste with a bread-y aroma and delicate, sweet and tart nuttiness are the Burley's merits in here. The Burley remains the star in this all the way but is seasoned by the mild, yet effective nuances of a peppery Perique which has no fruitiness for me, some Oriental leafs that are spicy-tart, ethereal-dry and just a hint of woodsy smoke by the smooth Latakia. If you puff too fast flavors get muddled, but if you puff slowly (breathe smoke works excellently for me) you get a most delicate, very warm and nuanced smoke of which I like to pack bowl after bowl.
Somewhat bready and richly earthy Burley with a smooth sweet nuttiness as a backbone is seasoned with pepper, ethereal dryness and just a hint of woodsy smoke. It works so damn well, really! Oh! Did I mention how well it works for me? ;-P Even though the Latakia is elusive, and both Perique and Orientals are rather in the background I find them to be important condiments, that make out the character of this blend and underscore the Burley's character perfectly - especially the Turkish leaf! Looking for a stout, yet nuanced and deliciusly 'warm' Burley flavor? Well.. here it is! All-time-Favorite and one of the finest and natural burleys out there for my palate.
Edit: I agree with JimInks - this blend REALLY benefits from 5-6 months in a jar after cracking the tin! Somehow the nuances develop much more intense like this and the burley gets noticeably sweeter and nuttier to me. Worth waiting, this is the way I'll be smoking this - jarring some up 5-6 months beforehand!

This is described as a light English, but much more is going on here. The mixture of Burley and small amounts of Orientals, as in "Prince Albert," creates a slight sweet-sour balance to the bready, nutty and warm Burley flavor, and then the Perique adds just a bit of tanginess to that which comes across not as fruity but instead enhances and amplifies that piquant flavor. Latakia, as a minor player, adds a smokiness and sharpness, but remains a minor enough player that it does not dominate. The result brings out the power of a classic Burley blend but transmutes the flavor into something unique that really utilizes the power of the Orientals without allowing them or the Latakia to become overwhelming. Would love to see a version of this with dark fired Kentucky in place of the Latakia. Really a great tobacco that can be a comfortable all-day smoke, and one of the Latakia blends that stretches your taste buds instead of walloping them.

After Picayune was discontinued I have been looking for a substitute that contains perique. Not that this is it, but Big 'n' Burley seems quite good in its own right. The tin note is sort of vinegary and has a nice fermented tang to it. My bag came in the post quite moist, and it smokes great as it is. This is a full-bodied burley blend with nice caramelized notes, and it packs quite of a nicotine punch. The backbone of the blend is dark burley, but the perique is quite noticeable as well. The fermented and tangy characteristics seem to come from the addition of Turkish leaf. It contains latakia as well, but this profile is more pushed back and barely noticeable. My advice is to smoke this blend in small pipes as it tends to overpower the smoker because of its high nicotine content and flavour profile. Highly recommended if you are a burley lover like myself.

The burley provides a solid nutty base. The dominant flavors are wood and leather. When I settled into my normal slow pace, I found a nice back and forth of sweet and sour, spice, smoke, and raisin on every puff. I had to relight a few more times than I’m used to but it detract too much. A pretty good English blend that I will smoke again.
There is some nicotine, so this is not for an empty stomach.

While most C&D Burley blends are just too strong and harsh for my taste, this one, for some strange reason, isn’t. I love it and can smoke multiple bowls in a row. It’s a unique blend in my mostly Va, VaPer, and VaBur rotation, but when I’m craving it, it hits the spot. Not a four star blend for me simply based on my default flavor profile.

Not an expert at burley at the present time but I must say that even smoking it with high dryness I still can get a godd smoking.
The fragrance from the room note is of a strong tobacco remembering those old scents from the tobacco stores when you enter it. You can't say it's a mild aroma, but it is not an agressive one: it relaxes the senses when you get a good sniff from the bag. There's also something salty to this aroma that is hard for me to describe.
In the puff you get a warm and soft taste that remembers something nutty. There's a bit of sour taste over the sides of your tongue after the puffing, but not aggressive at all. The nicotine works well and you can feel a true relaxation over the body. You could get a bit dizzy if you smoke it too fast or in great amounts, but nothing a good cup of coffee and biscuits can not fix.

This is great if you like the sour, nose tickle burley taste. At first to me it was sour, like the first time I tried Old Joe Krantz...but even after a few months in the jar and several more tries, I find no redeeming qualities to it. Edit: boy have my tastes changed since I wrote this! Like all burleys it needs jar time. It has a unique taste when “puffed” kind of like latakia gives you a different taste as such.

Wowzers my friends, this is some alkaloid-rich leaf! The alkalinity of the smoke makes for a great nic kick without any need to inhale even the smallest amount of it. The high pH of the delivery vehicle results in an optimal absorption of the psychoactive constituents via the capillaries which line the mouth. This is very similar to the way nicotine is absorbed while smoking a good strong cigar. Biochemistry and human physiology aside though, this is an exceptional smoke if you are into rich, bold Burley tobaccos. The condiments are used so sparingly that they are virtually unnoticeable. Occasionally I get a slight essence of Cyprian Lakatia in the room note but that's about it. Otherwise this blend completely lives up to it's namesake. It's big. It's bold. And it's Burley!

WOW! Now I can tell, without a doubt, what is in cigarettes. It's Burley! This blend is loaded with it. It has all the negative connotations that go with that. Actually, if you are switching from cigarettes to pipes, I recommend you stay away from this, since cigarettes generally taste better than this and might draw you back (I smoked Camel, all varieties even unfiltered, for 12 years). As someone mentioned, this will stay on your breath and nostrils for hours after it's done. The nicotine kick is immense, I started feeling lightheaded within minutes. The other tobaccos in this blend are unnoticeable. The smoking characteristics... don't matter because it tastes bad, smells bad and has a near debilitating nicotine effect. I can't recommend this. It's not just "big n' burley", it's burley overkill.

UPDATE: Oh my goodness! I've had the extreme pleasure of trying some aged B&B. I put up a quart jar of this wonderful stuff with a humidity button for six months. It has sweetened amazingly. Who said that Burley doesn't age? Anyway, it's so good that I'm staging six months in advance now. There's nothing better than a small cob of aged B&B with a beer or a cup of hot coffee!
I decided to try Big n Burley because it has good reviews and I was hoping to finally find a Burley blend that I like. Previous attempts with Burley have been booring, weak, and uninspiring to the point that I either threw the stuff out or cellared it mainly to avoid smoking anymore. Good news is I've found my Burley!
There's nothing booring about B&B. In fact, the wonderful sweetness and spiciness combine to make a very interesting Burley experience. The quality of the tobacco is also nice; no stems or woody chunks, just soft slightly moist good stuff in the bag. Bag note is sort of light roast coffee among other things. There's a very pleasant Burley flavor but I can also taste the Perique and Latakia. The spiciness and sweetness keep me interested well beyond the powerful buzz hits and I wish it could last forever.
This is the fourth excellent experience that I've had with Cornell & Diehl and I'm starting to suspect that I've found my favorite brand, especially considering the bulk prices. Basically what I have found is that C&D has high quality ingredients, not doped up with PPG.

This blend is just superb. All the way from flavor to strength. The Latakia stays in the background and keeps it pretty simple, and easy to smoke without thinking about it too much.
It's really just a nutty, creamy, kinda campfire spicy, kick in the face.
Four stars.

Big n' Burley is big beautiful Burley flavor. A nutty, full flavored burley backed up nicely with a slight smokey, woodsy flavor added from the latakia. The perique and orientals are not really noticeable however I'm sure they are necessary for the overall quality of this blend. All the sweetness and spice in the blend I would attribute to the burley and latakia. Overall, Big n' Burley is an excellent burley based blend with the slightest bit of latakia added. A must for any burley lovers.

Came a ziploc from C&D as part of a sampler. Chopped flakes, alternating shades of milk- and bitter-chocolate and had a slightly-sweet smell. I smoked it 4 times over 5 days in a new MM General because I kept trying to like it and really couldn't. The smoke begins with a false, papery, acrid note, which reminded me of Backwoods convenience-store cigar. This note diminishes during the first third of the bowl but never disappears entirely.
Other tastes begin to appear during the first third of the bowl and gain more intensity as the smoke continues. Coffee, carob and honey with a tiny whiff of sulphur. They would be quite pleasant without the occasional return of the "Backwoods essence." The taste lingers more as a residue than a continuation of the smoke and remains despite tea and a bite to eat. I'm starting to think I don't like Burley, since this "Backwoods flavor" keeps nagging me when I smoke tobacco that has burley in it. If you don't have that issue, this would be a great tobacco.
It's fairly strong, somewhere between GH Dark and Brown Flakes. It's nice, but it has some irritating angles, not least that it won't leave when its welcome is out. I never found myself looking forward to another bowl. Its nicotine content is its saving grace.

I'm still wondering about this blend. After four ounces, I still do not know whether I like it or not. Don't get me wrong, I do like it, but there seems to be something missing here. I think the condimental tobaccos are too light. They could easily be bumped up without any harm to the base of Burley.
The packing is not a problem because the leaf is so silken and soft to work with. The lighting is easy and the smoke is thick and rich. The acridity of the burley is not tamed completely here. That is what I meant about the condimental tobaccos. This could be smoother and more tasty if just a tad more Latakia and Turkish were added. The perique is not a problem here, the level seems just right.
For what it is worth, I will not be buying more. I think they missed (IMO) with this one by the slimmest of margins. I could add the extras myself, but that isn't why I buy tinned blends. I don't want to do the alchemy myself. Sorry to rain on the admiration parade here, but I just think this was meant for the ardent Burley fan alone. Cheers!

Another high-quality tobacco, expertly blended, from C&D. Fellow pipesters, this is testosterone in a pipe bowl. My beard grew one half inch whilst smoking a medium sized bowl.
The cut is wonderfully broken with some quite large flakes. Even the cut is manly.
The pouch aroma is alluringly nutty with some grassy notes.
Easy to load, light, and only a few relights. I too find it beneficial to tamp at it during your smoke.
From your first puff, the flavor is profound. On the strong side, the dominating flavor is indeed the burley. The skillful addition of the remaining tobaccos is what sets Big 'n Burley apart from the pack. The Turkish and Latakia support the burleys just enough to keep the smoke tantalizing without stealing the show. If I didn't read it for myself, I wouldn't know the perique was in the blend. There is a cigar-like experience with this pipe-weed, but it does not taste like a cigar. It is stout, rich and fulfilling. I smoke each bowl to the very bottom.
As others have warned, so I warn -- smoke this blend slowly and grant it respect. I suggest smoking it with your favorite beverage at hand. Tea or bottled water worked well for me. The smoke is cool, but this is burley and tends to dry the mouth.
It works well in the p.m. and evening. I've not noticed any benefit to smoking it in a particular type of pipe, or a particular size of bowl.
My review in a word would be -- Brilliant!

The name says it all, full bodied and burly like a good burly blend. Feels very English and has the strength of a cigar. This pipe tobacco is not for the feint of heart, not for those who have yet to acquire a taste to tobaccos. I loved it, a good smoke after a hard day at work

Just finishing 4 ounces of this. I love my burley. To me it is a just a simple straight forward solid burley. I never picked up on the Latakia or Perique. The orientals seemed moderately present. Smokes easy, couple relights. Comes in bulk which is nice.
Probably won’t be buying again only because I can reach for Old Joe Krantz or Exclusive with a little more oomph.

Big n' Burley, indeed! The name serves as a fair description and fair warning, as well. Dark Burly is first out of the gate, and it holds the lead through the whole smoke. Bag note is earthy, dark chocolate over moist, slightly musty, not yet rotten leaf mulch. The mixture is short ribbons and rough chunks ranging from dark to medium brown, with some tan and some black bits. It loads, lights and smokes down just fine. The Burley comes on immediately. It’s like smoking walnuts, along with some dry, musty cigar spices that are enhanced by the other varietals. It’s somewhat rough until it’s rested some, and it’s always full. There’s just enough Latakia to make the Burley a little smoky, almost like KY, and this adds some depth to the blend. There’s enough Perique for some sour figs and some pepper, and a small amount of what I suppose to be Izmur adds some woody spices and floral notes. There is sugar added to this blend, to balance the Burley bitters. Though the bitterness is not so pronounced as white Burley, it’s still Burley, after all. I quite like the aroma of this blend. It is like the tastes but it is more open and outright fragrant to me, and it is never really rough unless you inhale too much. IMO, this blend is best served up loaded loosely in a larger bowl, at least a wider bowl. Strength builds to strong from a large bowl, but it drops back quickly during a rest. Tastes are full the way I smoke it. Again, I find the room note to be pleasant. Aftertaste is a lingering trailing off of the best of the smoke.
Though I like B&B right from the bag, I am guessing that some (probably most) will prefer it well rested, and some simply won’t like the direct tobacco blast that this blend offers, not to mention the potential for roughness. As far as recommendations, if you like Old Joe Krantz but wish it had more depth, B&B just might punch your ticket. If you are a beginner, take it slow. 4 stars from moi.

A bold blend from the Burley masters at C&D. It’s got plenty of nicotine and plenty of flavor. The flavor reminds me of OJK at times, and other times, I get the Esoterica - And So To Bed flavors (really). Your significant other is likely to abhor the cigarette room note, but that’s what private spaces and porches were made for right? It smokes dry and tends to burn all the way down to a fine gray ash with a few relights.
I’ve knocked back 4 ounces and have another 4 ounces in the jar. I love nicotine, Burley, and Perique but I do not consider this an all day smoke. My love is in another C&D blend. I enjoy BnB most when it’s late at night ad I have reading to do.

Cornell and Diehl's Big N Burley, wow, this is a heck of a blend!
Burleys are definitely an acquired taste. Big N burley was my very first encounter with Burley dominant blends, and to be honest, I would never recommend this stuff to a newbie who's just delving into Burley blends, this stuff is potent! My first smoke I only got bitter, acrid, slightly cigar like smoke that was extremely unpleasant and bity. I was almost convinced that Burley was something you either love or hate and it just wasn't for me. For some reason, I decided to give it another shot, and it suddenly started growing on me, I learned to smoke slow and savor the smoke. My first attempt I couldn't pick up any nuances in this blend and only unpleasantness. At my second shot, I could actually pick up some sweetness from the orientals. Now it's my third smoke, and I'm LOVING it! At the tin note, you get that chocolaty molasses like undertone, at the smoke, I get the same molasses and earthy or cigar like flavor from the burley, while the turkish orientals add a little woodsy sweetness and aroma to balance out the blend. I could detect a faint scent of smoky latakia only occasionally, but it's there for sure.
The blend is strong, very strong actually. That's why I can never recommend it for a new pipe smoker or even an experienced one who is just getting into Burleys. The blend is best smoked slow, and sipped in order to allow the flavors to shine through.
Beware, for nicotine lightweights, this blend packs a hefty N punch, and I could definitely feel it even as someone who vapes nicotine all day long.
The blend is complex, bold, slightly bitter in a cigar like way, but also earthy and dark. The condiment leaves balance and even things out.
The more I smoke this, the tastier it gets, hence a very acquired taste. I loved this one and will definitely get some again.

When I opened the page for this blend I was surprised to see the relatively high rating it had received. Big 'n' Burley reinforced my long-held dissatisfaction with many C&D blends. This one was peppery (not in a good way) and I caught a few whiffs of cigar (which I don’t like). The smoked tasted dusty. The aforementioned and the big nicotine hit led me to discontinue smoking after a third of a bowl. I will not re-visit.

Cocoa or chocolate mixed with the orientals is the tin note. It’s a bit off-putting for me. The tobacco itself is very dry, and so is the mouthfeel of the smoke. Although It burns fast and comes pretty dry, it’s still tries to go out if you don’t pay it constant attention. There is something about a cocoa and oriental tobacco fusion that just doesn't work for me.

Cornell & Diehl - Big n' Burley.
This, to me, would be a perfect blend for when a straightforward, solid tasting blend is what's required.
The first quarter: the Burley's the main taste (full tasting without being too nutty), the other three are a little weaker; there's a slight lively note from the Oriental/Turkish, and a gentle woody/smoky note from the Latakia but the Perique's miles behind; it's pretty much non-existent. After a short while the other tobacco's begin to give more to the flavour and make it taste fuller. I adore the flavour for the latter part of the bowl; the Latakia becomes stronger here. Big n' Burley gives quite a strong dose of nicotine, I don't inhale any. The burn's very good: consistent, clean, and independent.
At first I was unsure whether this was worth three or four stars but after a few bowls I feel more than comfortable giving it full marks:
Highly recommended

This tobacco packs a really good flavour, and loads of nicotine. i have not tried many burley based blends before, but this blend made me a fan!
Coarse cut and smells really good out of the bag! the first thing i noticed when i lit my pipe was the intense burley flavor, the latakia, orientals etc hangs out in the background rounding up the flavor, and then the perique lifts it up and binds it all together. Secondly you will notice that this tobacco really brings a punch, and it will help you grow a mustache!

I've been smoking B n B almost exclusively for a year -- don't get me wrong, I like other blends, but this is consistently satisfying and I come back to it daily. It's a medium strength smoke, some say heavy on the nicotine but I couldn't tell you. My gf says it smells like cigarettes so I can't give it high marks on the room note. But taste-wise is where it counts, and here it exceeds. There is a little latakia, repeat "little," so it's not uni-dimensional but it is an unapologetic burley blend. Sometimes I get a little burley hiccup with it but never tongue bite or dry mouth. There is NO aromatic component so you needn't fear some jam berry taste. The only other burley tobacco that I would smoke regularly is Butera's Kingfisher. 4 stars UPDATE 2/28/14: 5 years later and I still smoke this often though not daily. It still satisfies me in a way other tobaccos haven't

I personally liked this one -- not enough to buy again, but I enjoyed the two-ounces that C&D sent as part of a sampler pack. If there was ever an example of truth in advertising, this is it, as this blend is ridiculously "big" in the taste department and it's almost completely about "burley," with just a hint of condimental leaf. As much as I enjoyed this, though, I can't in good conscience give it three stars because it strikes me as being a niche tobacco. A few of us -- those who really like obscenely powerful burleys -- will like this, but it's probably not going to be a pleasant experience for the other 99 percent of pipe smokers (if nothing else, the nicotine level is almost dangerous). I highly recommend this for folks who like strong burley flavor and effect, but not recommended at all for anyone else.

I am very much a Burley fancier. Burley agrees with my body chemistry and it is a staple of my diet. I take comfort in the arms of Burley, finding pleasure in all of her nuances and in her sweetness.
Big N? Burley takes my love for Burley and it kicks it up into new realms. This is a beautifully crafted tobacco. Burley is certainly in the forefront with wisps of chocolate and softwoods. The Latakia is applied with a delicate hand, augmenting rather than masking; the Turkish adds the soft flavour of spice rather than heat and the Perique offers a lovely interplay with the Latakia, bringing a sweet mustiness to the mix.
At times, there is a singular note to the bowl (a sweet, musty cedar with a glimmer of cigar) while at other times, the individual components dance and swirl over the palette. It?s easy to slide into the zone with this bite-free blend.
This is a fuller smoke and yet, for me, it could easily be an all day adventure. I often enjoy Big N' Burley as my first pipe of the day (usually mid-morning) and yet it is just as delightful at night.
Strongly encouraged to lovers of Burley and English fans looking for something with a solid Burley base. Wonderful in medium sized pipes with longer stems.
Big N? Burley has a permanent place in my rotation.
Highly recommended.

This must be the ultimate "man tobacco." Burley, Turkish, and a little latakia blended together in a rather large ribbon cut. The smell in the pouch isn't overpowering, but you know you're not dealing with a wimpy blend here. Upon lighting, there are cigar overtones, a stout burley base, and a pleasant interplay of the strong Turkish and mild latakia.
This is not my idea of an all-day smoke, but it makes for a fantastic now-and-then blend.

There are a handful of blends that are the only reason anyone cares about C&D, and this is one of them.
This blend has Burley, Latakia, Oriental and Perique. Sounds like a typical C&D alphabet soup Burley blend, but this one is all about the Burley.
The Latakia is there as a condiment. I find Latakia off-putting and try to avoid it, but here and in Epiphany it enhances the blend and I do not mind it at all. The Oriental, I'll just take your word for it that it's there. The Perique is less obvious than usual for a C&D blend and doesn't do much more than add strength.
For me, Big n Burley is a very good blend. Every component reinforces and strengthens the star dark Burley, which the focus of this tobacco is squarely on. I think it is one of the C&D blends that should be on every Burley smoker's list, along with OJK, Haunted Bookshop, Pegasus and Epiphany. It's not a tobacco I feel compelled to buy by the pound, but it very well may be for you. A solid Burley with backbone.

I have been working my way through quite a few English Burley blends from C&D and this one is quite notable. They certainly named this one correctly as the flavor is indeed big time Burley and it is dominant but in a good way. It packs and burns well at a moderate rate and is consistent throughout the smoke. Performs best in a thicker wall large bowl pipe which helps super puffers like myself. Good nic hit which I enjoy after 6+ years off the demon cigs. I'm a big time English man myself and always keep a supply of Latakia on hand. I mixed an ample amount in with this blend and man, that brought it up to 4 star territory for me. this one is a keeper!

One year in a mason jar, for me, really seemed to smooth out the rough edges and meld the component tobaccos. The blend tasted like a "richer" basic burley, with the enjoyable perique tingle. The room note for me is a guess, I don't smoke indoors.

Impressive, a very manly smoke. This blend has some earthy might. It's very much similar to the blends in the Burley Flake series. The nicotine power is noticeable right away in the first 1/4 of the bowl. It comes right out and slaps you across the face. The Burley is young and way out front with strong woody, nutty, earthy notes. From the Orientals there's a gentle walnut note with a hint of bitter and sour that is ever present. The Perique and Latakia are sparse condiments adding occasional complexity. This is not an all day or a big bowl smoke. There's an occasional harshness and offputting bitterness to this blend, but the nic hit is lovely and ... well let's call it an acquired taste. I love to have a blend like this around for the quick 10 minute stress pipe. I'd like to smoke this along with the Burley Flake series and see who wins best taste.

This is a rough cut blend that is easy to fill the pipe with. I did have some difficulty with burn. A number of relights were needed, but this did not detract from the experience. In looking at this blend, I would never guess that Latakia is a feature. There just was not a lot of black leaf in my particular bulk sample. While not a bomb, the Latakia Provides some smokiness and adds to the earthiness of the burley. The oriental leaf adds to the bouquet and sidestream. The Burleys are king in this blend, and they are earthy and strong. If I tried to explain this blend simply, I would say to imagine a light Balkan, say EMP. Dump all the VA out and replace it with stiff burley, spike it with Perique, and voila, big AND burley. I enjoyed this tobacco cocktail mightily, but there is a bit too much strength to make for an all day smoke. Just as L/S M.F.T. C&D means fine burley.

Nice mellow scent from the bulk bag . Very Nutty and creamy . Some cocoa notes and a little toffee nut bean . Tough for me to get at just the right moisture. Burns a wee bit hot but it was a little moist when I light it up . I dried some out and it got a little crispy after an hour only . The latakia is a nice touch . Good change of pace from usual Virginia base blends . Mildly sweet . I like it a lot ! Would probably mix nice with a little Virginia also but great on its own . Recommend 3 1/2 stars for me . It also burns very evenly . _________________-update 9/15 this blend has a lot of cigar taste to it and not sure if i still like it a lot ? 2 yrs old in a jar . I’ll smoke more and see if i still enjoy ?

2020 Update:
I found the jar which had the rest of my sample in it and decided to give it another try. I've grown in my appreciation of burley over the last couple of years so I figured it would be good to smoke up the rest.
With a couple of extra years of age on it (8-29-20), it has developed to where I'm picking up the pepper from the perique along with the nutty of the burleys. I'm still not getting anything from the latakia.
It still has a KO punch of nicotine to my system, so its not something I'd be smoking all day.. but it better than I gave it credit for back then for sure.
Original Review -- 2018 -- This is one that the name scared me. I received a sample pack in my tinsociety.com box and was happy to try it in my cob.
It was expecting a straight burley from the name, but instead found something akin to an English but with a burley base.
Its stronger than most of the blends I smoke in the nic department. Not an early morning smoke for me but one for enjoying after dinner.

I really loved this blend. It is nice and strong, but not cigar like. It's not very dense nor moist so you can pack it tight. The quality is good. Could easily be used as a blending tobacco for aromatics.

This is a fall/winter Burley blend. I would guess that this is Kelly's Coin with a very small amount of Latakia, perique, and Izmir. The Burley is nutty, toasty, and cigar-like. It has a sharp rough edge that is tamed by the fruity, spicy perique and smooth and smokey Latakia. You can actually see the Latakia when packing a bowl and I've never noticed more than 2 ribbons in an entire bowl. Some dry woody notes surface which must be the Izmir. My favorite thing about this blend is that it will not bite, ever. I prefer to smoke it like a cigar taking big puffs instead of sipping the smoke like a Virginia. If you don't immediately like this one try aging it for a while. I wasn't too impressed right away but it's becoming a favorite Burley.

I've been smoking a pipe for about 3 years. By the time I tried this one, I had a fair idea what I was doing. This blend can sneak up and smack you, but it's so smooth and tasty you come back for more. Full tobacco flavor, full strength nicotine, cool burning, satisfying and easy to manage.

The more i partake of this, the more i find myself liking it. The burley is upfront, and there's a little latakia that comes out in the room note more than the taste. I;m having a hard time detecting the orientals here, but I'm told there actually in this blend.
Quite strong as well, though I didn't feel that it was as strong as some others.
A very dry smoke, but full of flavor. Highly recommended.

This is lighter on the lat. and a very good American English blend and in that category it is hands down the best I have smoked so far. Burley is the primary note it is nutty with a little chocolate nuance that I find in burley's of high quality. The perique is there but stays in the background with a very nice spice. No fruit that I could find just a nice spicy note. The Turkish is sweet and the lat stays way in the background. It has been added with a light hand and adds a smokey note that comes and goes but when present is way in the back. There is a very light note that I think is a topping perhaps licorice? It is too light for me to be certain and it could also be all the flavors acting in harmony but I think there is an extremely mild topping. That said it does not take away from the blend at all. I would add that you should clean your pipes before smoking this one. I thought mine were okay but the first couple of bowls were a little monochromatic. Once cleaned this blend really shined. I will pick up a pound on my next order. The price is right too. I do not think this one will age much as burley ages much slower than other tobaccos and the lat. is very light. Smoke it and enjoy it.

Conclusion: Be warned, this is the strongest smoke I have encountered so far and I doubt anyone will have a big bowl without feeling it. As such I smoke this in the evening, I find it soothing, calming. It is rich in strength and flavour and smokes wonderfully, if you can handle it I recommend it.
Mechanics: Burns as good as one can expect from a burley blend that arrives as dry as this one; clean, cool and no bite or hassle. As for the nicotine, this is no doubt the strongest blend I have ever smoked - it is most potent, make no mistake! Best smoked slowly in a big bowl.
Taste: From the get go it gives off a spicy feel; a tingle in mouth and nose reminiscent of thai food. One can actually taste the strength in this tobacco. Underneath that burn the smokey latakia plays a subtle role in a big play about burley, like an extra with no lines or maybe the backdrop. The burley is the stage it self. The combination of the added orientals and perique together with the latakia and burley makes for a stout, cigar like taste that is dry but not parching in feel. Earthy and nutty with very little sweetness, a bit rough on the edges but not unpleasant. At the end of the bowl a get a hint of salty licorice and a somewhat meaty nuance, a combination that sounds as strange as it is good.

As every review has previously mentioned this is a BIG tobacco, big taste with a big nicotine hit, A coarse cut with a pleasant woody/burley note in the tin. The bulk bag I received did come rather dry but this humidified nicely within a few days releasing more of that tin note. Packs and lights well and stays lit perfectly with a not too unpleasant room note, The smoke itself starts off rather bitter for me but this settles into a very pleasant but very full tasting smoke, there is quite a complex flavour to this blend with the Latakia and Perique creeping though the burley. Not by any means in my book an all day smoke but one to sit and contemplate, can't wait to see how this cellars if reports are to be believed!

I agree with most of the posters here: huge burley taste, a whiff of latakia and turkish poke through. Perfect strength for an after dinner smoke. Dark semi-sweet chocolate, nutty, some soapiness and very satisfying. This blend is the epitome of burley flavor.

This selection is quickly becoming my go to blend, when I'm looking for something strong and bold. My first burley blend and I can see no reason to look further. Not really a first thing in the morning blend, but crave it by mid afternoon. I have a large cob dedicated to this one. Highly recommended for the smoker who enjoys strong tobacco. Not listed in the ingredients, but there is a hint of cigar leaf, not overwhelming but nice.

As a multi-decade burley smoker, I looked forward to trying this blend after reading all the glowing reviews. I was disappointed. It's aroma before loading was good, it packed and lit nicely, but I found the taste to be harsh and not at all pleasant. I tried several loads in medium and large bowled pipes, trying both rather loose and semi-tight packing without favorable results to my palate. While I am perplexed regarding my experience, I decided to pass it along for whatever it might be worth to anyone thinking about trying this blend. For perspective, I currently smoke Solani Aged Burley Flake and SG FVF almost exclusively.

This is a late night go to for me when i've had all the latakia I care to taste for the day. Packs and lights well, will burn a little fast if you let it, so sipping is my preferred method.
It's got nicotine for sure, but i'm addicted to nicotine, so it works out for me. As a reformed cigar nut, I can taste maduro cigar notes in this tobacco from time to time. The latakia and others are decernable, but the burley is the big hitter in this blend. If you are smoking danish blends, you might want to skip this one, but I find it a good alternative to english type blends, a great change of pace. Highly Recommended

Extremely potent for the uninitiated smoker, I can easily get lightheaded off a small bowl of this stuff from the nicotine. However, I have never smoked cigarettes.
It burns well, relights even better. The texture of the leaf is very springy and a pleasant light brown, it comes ready to smoke.
The taste can leave you hesitant at first as it is apparent that this is a potent blend, but a little bit of faith and slow deep smoking is rewarded with an unbelievably rich taste. The orientals add an exotic and lovely spiciness but the real reward is the smooth and heady nutty taste that comes through, especially on relights and deeper into the bowl.
The room note is atrocious for anyone but the smoker. I smoke it in a cob but would consider using a forever churchwarden stem on it because unlike some other blends where the smoke compliments the taste, this one does not.
EDIT: Downgraded this to 3 stars as I've developed my tastes and found blends to which this does not necessarily compare. It is still exceptional in its function, that is to provide a hook to the face when you're looking for that. I keep a jar now for when I'm feeling particularly manly.

Can you say robust? This tobacco is very rich in that old fashioned burley way, blended by the burley masters at Cornell&Diehl.Cant really taste much of the latakia, turkish or perique, but I can seem to detect the latakia and turkish when mixed with Green river vanilla from C&D.I love the taste of this burley but if smoked too fast I get knocked over with a nicotine attack! Good stuff.

You know, I am a HUGE burley fan. But this just wasn't my cup of tea. I am starting to wonder if Pipes and Cigars sent me the right thing based on everyone else's description. This stuff did not taste that good, it was very harsh! Room note was horrible. I got it today..i'll give it another chance tomorrow. If it goes the same way, then I'll stand by my review. Sorry Mr. Runowski...this one just wasn't for me.
UPDATE...Left the bag open overnight so it would dry out a bit. I was a litle "harsh" on it yesterday. This tobacco has to be sipped though!! It is NOT Prince Albert! This is a manly smoke. Room note isnt too bad. Taste pretty good actually. Just stout. It will be occasional for me. I prefer my baccy a little smoother. But after a big meal of elk steaks and fried potatoes...this ought to be great on a cold night. Just make sure to sip it like hot coffee.

First experience with this, smoked in a Sasieni 4 dot. Impressions:
Pouch aroma: sweet, musty, woodsy
Consistency: light, springy, packs easily just right
1st puffs: smooth, pleasant, good strength, chocolate flavor evident immediately
Smoke character: thick, rich, satisfying
2nd half: the nic kick is intense; the flavor never wavers or changes – big, mellow, with chocolate tones riding above the nutty sweetness
Aftertaste: Pleasant, echoes the taste of the smoke
Overall: Too much nicotine for this boy, otherwise, excellent quality and enormous flavor.

C&D's B&B is for me, an all day smoke. A bulk tobacco, it is one that I would be willing to pay for tinned.
For me, a very dry smoke with hardly any bite at all. I was surprised to read that there was Latakia in here as I couldn't taste it.
This is my first burley tobacco. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I purchased my first 1 ounce sampler. I smoked my first bowl, and finished that ounce in less then two days. Since then, I've smoked 3 more ounces and am currently working on a 4 ounce bag.
If B&B represents what burley tobacco is, then I think I'm hooked. The taste is not too sweet, and it's strength lets me know that what I'm smoking should be respected and enjoyed.
The nicotine content is quite high, but for me it's the right amount. I do highly recommend that you have something to sip while smoking this as it does tend to dry out the mouth. Also, be prepared for the occasional strong hit. The nicotine somewhat sneaks up on me. I'll be fine one minute, and then next thing I know I'll have the hiccups and my throat will start to "tighten up."
For those of you who are looking for a no-nonsense tobacco to be a daily staple and who also enjoys a relatively high vitamin N kick, I strongly recommend this blend!
- February 26, 2010 update - I'm still smoking this wonderful weed. Weed - that term does not do this tobacco justice. I purchase this in bulk, a pound at a time, and make it my all day smoke. Never once has this tobacco bitten me, and it always satisfies no matter what pipe I'm smoking it in. I can say that after three months of smoking this daily, this is still my favorite tobacco blend. If I could, I would rate this a 20 out of 10! Highly recommended!

This one just didnt do it for me. I agree that this is a full blend you wouldnt want to smoke all day. I could barely detect the latakia, perique or turkish in this blend as they are in such small quantities. The burley has a good flavor to it but the overall experience is fairly one dementional to say the least. Others had refered to the cigar like overtones, if I want a cigar after a meal, I would buy a cigar. I didnt care for the cut of this as well, it was similar to loading up with a bag of gravel. This is in no way meant to discourage anyone from the C&D line (as this is the only one that I have tried that didnt work for me personally) The quality of leaf is fine, and Craig is putting out some awesome stuff. Big-n-Burley and me just didnt hit it off.

As mentioned in other reviews this is a burleyphiles dream blend. It starts out a little on the sweet side but as it heats up you will get big bold flavors of malt, chocolate, wood, some mild nuttiness and pepper. There are also some sour notes that really balance some of the sweet notes. I don't detect much Latakia but for being such a strong bold blend there is a little bit of smoothness to it. Maybe that's were the Latakia comes in.
Burns nice needing little attention. There is definitely nicotine factor here, it does pack some punch.
This is a favorite of mine and a daily smoke for me. I hope to never be without. Another great joy of this tobacco is the tin note, or in my case the giant jar note. It has this wonderful enthralling must smell. The kind must smell reminicient of a basement that you know contains a treasuretrove of old books.
This is a must try for fans of strong Burley tobacco, or for my fellow cigar fans that also like pipes.

Some pipe blends are more problematical than others and I found Cornell and Diehl's Big n' Burley to be such. Let's start with the tin opening. I found a cocoa brown layer of medium width ribbons that looked as if they had been placed in a horizontal position purposefully and that is what I smoked the first couple of times. It was an okay Burley smoke, but, no writing home about it. Then I discovered a mixture of ingredients of varying size cuts underneath and, I assume, that represented the blend itself. This blend smoked a little better; but, not terribly better. That tells me that the cocoa brown Burley is the predominate tobacco in this blend and the other components are minimized. I don't have any problem with this, although, I seem to want the taste and aroma to be stronger. Then, there is the actual smoking of the blend. The top third started out confused and, then, yielded a quality Burley smoke in it's middle. This was the best part of every bowl I lit. The middle third toned down to a flatter Burley smoke that kept me thinking that I had been here before. Then it dawned on me during my third bowl that the "here" I was searching for was none other than my early memories of pipe smoking with the first pipe tobacco I ever bought - Prince Albert. The bottom thirds were uneventful to dull. Contemplating a two star review, I decided to insert Big n' Burley into some micro blends I had been trying; thereby replacing the other C&D blend I had been using - Burley Flake #5. I don't fully understand what happened, but, these blends became more enjoyable and smoked better. The problem I have with this blend, in the final analysis, is the "Big" part of the name. Quite frankly, I didn't find anything very big about the blend until the positive insertion of it into other blends I was making. That aspect of it was so good that I have to raise the review to three stars. I am going to put some tins away, as, I think it will age out really well.

I've probably gone through about 30 C&D blends now and have a pretty good idea which ones I consider essential. Of the blends available in bulk, this one made the top of the list, along with Old Joe Krantz, Billy Bud, and Pegasus; with honourable mentions to Yorktown, Morley's Best, Bailey's Front Porch, Golden Ash, Bayou Morning, Autumn Evening and a few others. C&D's best Virginia blend IMHO is Opening Night, but alas, it doesn't come in bulk. I was not a huge fan of Haunted Bookshop or Crooner. I know those are popular bends but they both tasted kind of like cardboard to me.
If you want a strong toasty, nutty Dirty English with just a hint of Latakia, this is the one. It's barely an English, and the Latakia becomes less prominent as the blend ages. Flavourwise I'd compare this one to Golden Ash and Bailey's Front Porch both of which also employ Latakia as a condiment, but this is far and away the strongest of the bunch. I don't know if this is the strongest blend in the C&D lineup, but if you want a nicotine punch, you can't go wrong with Bn'B.
Take Jiminks' advice and let this age for at least 6 months in a jar. It gets way better. The flavour mellows out a bit as the Latakia recedes and the components become better integrated. It came dry like most C&D bulk blends, which is perfect for me, because it's easy to light, and smokes right down the bowl, no bite, no fuss, no muss.

I won't bore you with what my expectations were, what my hopes were that this blend would be. The only way I can describe this would be to imagine unpacking the filler from an unflavored machine-made 'cigar' into your pipe. Acrid, and 'cigar-like.' Plenty of nicotine is fine, but I don't smoke blends because I am looking for nicotine in particular. The nicest things I can say about this blend are that it left a pleasant smell on my fingers, and a peculiarly interesting and not altogether unpleasant aftertaste. I understand that there are many Burley enthusiasts, and I can imagine how this blend might represent something of a "Burley bomb" in the same way that people like a "Latakia bomb." However I can't escape the sensation that I'm smoking something exceptionally average. This blend might be an interesting variation for someone who likes the classic Burley-in-a-can American blends of yesteryear. I'll be jarring this and coming back to it (very) occasionally over the years to see if it starts looking better with time, like the girl with the funny haircut in my highschool yearbook.

Though I have browsed the reviews on this site ad nauseum, this is the first tobacco that has prompted me to actually write something for I love this like no other.
C&D lists this under "English Blends." What? Whaaaat!? I have smoked english blends, I own english blends, I often enjoy english blends. You sir, are no English blend. Perique? If you say so, but I cannot taste it unlike, say Old Joe Krantz which C&D sees fit to list as a burley. Turkish? Umm, ok. Latakia? My tastebuds nor my visual acuity (Latakia is a dark old leaf) can detect any.
Nope, this is Burley! Earthy, chocolatey, delicious burley. I could, and often do, smoke nothing but this all day. Think Wessex Burley slice (which I incidentally love) that knew somebody. Puffed hard, it unfolds like chocolate covered balls of earth in the mouth. Smoked respectfully, it adds some higher, sweeter notes. Smoke however you like as my body chemistry absolutely cannot make this stuff bite or even tingle.
I have taken to ordering this stuff by the pound as I read Dunhill, etc. horror stories.
Whatever the case, if you like burley, you owe it to yourself to try this.
