The toasty, nutty, earthy, woody burley has an edge over the other components, though it’s only mildly sweet, and has a mild rough edge. The grassy, slightly floral, tart and tangy citrus sweet gold Virginia plays a lesser lead. The smoky, woody, earthy, musty, lightly sweet Cyprian Latakia is a background player though you always notice it. The perique offers a little plum, raisins and light spice in a complimentary role. Has an interesting interplay between sweet and sour through the smoke. The strength is almost medium, while the taste is medium. The nic-hit is a rung below the strength level. Won’t bite. Burns well, cool and clean with a mostly consistent flavor though it suffers from a little lack of depth and body. Requires few relights, and leaves virtually no moisture in the bowl. Has a decent, lightly lingering after taste, and a smoky, woody room note. An easy all day work and play American English if you want something you don’t have to think much about. More of a two and a half star blend.

I get a chuckle when I look into the bag/tin of a lot of C&D tobaccos, this one included. It looks like some kid put it together and wanted to mix colors and cuts from one extreme to the other. This goes from lemon yellow to black in color and has wide chop cuts and long ribbons. I don't know how they make that burn properly but no problems here!

As for the flavor, this is one that was wonderful when it hit me right, and forgettable when it didn't. It was a 2 oz sample bag and I never know if various components settle in bulk tobacco so that the taste isn't consistent, or if my state of mind plays the larger role in taste differences. At its best, it was a beautiful marriage of a lot of different tobaccos that made for a very tasty and lightly spicy smoke. Good burley flavor, with VA, latakia and perique making themselves known (latakia is noticeable, VA less so and the perique seems mostly like a stowaway but somehow makes the journey more pleasant). I did not enjoy this as much as other C&D's, such as Epiphany, Morley's Best or the Burley Flakes, but it was a good tobacco on its own. I doubt I'll buy any more but I enjoyed the 2 oz. If you enjoy a mixture of several tobaccos that make for a (usually) harmonious whole and you especially enjoy burley, this is one to try.

A very nice American English. The Burley is superb. Has a wonderful woody nuttiness to it. The Virginias have enough natural sweetness, as well as a nice hay note, that the blend needs no additional topping or casing. The Lat is pretty much just right providing a background of smoke. My only complaint, and a minor one, is that I would like just a touch more Perique. Just a little more dark fruit and spice would push this up to 4 stars for me. Even so, it's a fine smoke.

Mild to medium in body. Medium in taste. No added flavorings. Burn is great. This is a very smooth smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Bailey's Front Porch.

For some reason I'd got it in my head that this was an aromatic, I think it's because the name has a sort of 'fun' feel to it! It's not though, it's a steadfast, pure, blend.

Because it's coarse cut it contains a few twigs, leaves, and clumps; there's not really anything that's in need of discarding, but don't expect a pouch of even ribbons. There's a lot of different colours in there; a couple of yellows, quite a few blacks, and a large amount of medium browns. We have the status quo for a loosely pouched blend with moisture: perfect, so on with the smoke:

The Burley accounts for a high proportion of the smoke's flavour; a very nutty and rustic base. The Latakia seems to be the milder variety; there's more of a woody flavour than just smokiness. The Perique needs to be 'looked for', and is only slightly detectable. I concur with anyone who struggles to find the Virginia in the smoke; it offers virtually nothing. The burn's good from B.F.P., although it can be a bit fast; considering the medium nicotine amount though, that would make it a good blend to have on a quick smoke break.

I think this is the archetypal example of a three star blend.

I was sent this in error by P&C when I actually ordered a tin of Bayou Morning flake. Thanks to their great customer service this ended up being a freebie for me. And it was a good one.

It seems C&D has great amount of blends that are similar to this. Burley, Virginia with latakia and Perique. This is one of the better ones that I have tried, but I have enjoyed them all. I did have a chance to compare this on directly with GLP's Lombard which is similar to this one. This one was much better than that.

It is the codger burley and this one exemplifies that type of blend sans topping. Or if there is a topping, I never picked up on it. All ingredients worked well to give it a naturally smoky sweetness. I found the perique to be a little light in this one and I don't think that is a bad thing. C & D's burley is so strong that I find too much perique puts some of there blends over the top with nicotine. That is not the case with this one.

It is not often that I associate a blend with latakia to be an all day blend, but I think that this one could be smoked all day with pleasant satisfaction.

This blend didn't do it for me while smoking my first bowl in my home office..... So, off to the front porch I went to try again. My wife, who never sees me smoking on our home's front porch, asked what was going on? I explained that the name of this blend was Front Porch and didn't smoke too well out in my office. "Oh," she says, and walks off. Gotta love a woman like that.

I don't love this tobacco though; unlike my beautiful wife, this one is a little rough around the edges and doesn't get me excited.

It lights and stays lit well.

Baily’s Front Porch looks like the kitchen sink and offers a pouch scent that I found to be kind of sour and musty. The Burley leads the way, but BFP is more than just a Burley blend with just accents of the other component tobaccos as each tobacco plays in the sandbox. It burns cool, and considering the amount the different tobaccos in the blend, I don’t find it to be very complex. It is a tad rough around the edges, but not overbearing. This wouldn’t be a frequent smoke for me as I tend to shy away from English mixtures with Burley, but if you don’t, I would give this one a try.

I won't go into detail as I usually do in my reviews. This is simply a Americanized version of an English blend. The components of this blend are of high quality, but just didn't do anything together to keep my interest. It is not a bad blend, but it is neither an excellent blend IMO, of course. One could do much worse I suppose. After 4 bowls gave away to a fellow BOB. I won't be purchasing any more, but I wouldn't turn it down if I was out of tobac (fat chance! LOL!) I much prefer Pirate Cake, Haunted Bookshop, Longevity (the original), Santa's mistake, SOTE, etc...

Pouch aroma is that of toasted burley, with a slight sour and smoky aroma. There doesn't appear to be a proportionate amount of Latakia. Appearance is finely chopped ribbon and a few unbroken pressed Va flakes. Which by the way, rub out very easily. Moisture is typical C&D bulk; perfect.

The fact that it is chopped as fine as it is, gravity filling works very well. Initial lighting is easy too. First half is a toasty burley forward flavor, with just a kiss of sweet Virginia. The latakia is well into the background, and the Perique is mostly quiet. Burns very well through the course of the bowl.

2nd half the spice picks up (as it seems with most Perique containing C&D blends). Burned a bit hot at times, which can really make this blend unbalanced. I never did get the large voluminous smoke from this blend, but it's as great indoor as it is outdoor. Outdoor smoking it did seem to show off the toastiness and Latakia a bit more. This is a great warm weather blend, and also a favorite morning commute blend! Perfect to consume while doing yard work. Stays lit with lack of attention or infrequent puffs, and doesn't require much in the relight department. I've had fun with these two ounces, I'll do it again sometime.

Pairs well with morning black coffee, and an afternoon iced sassafras tea

Very Burley forward, the nutty flavor dominates the entire smoke but when mixed with the Latakia and Perique it gives a cigar like profile. The first part of the bowl, is very nutty with a very subdued sweetness and I don't think this is coming from a topping. The second part, is nutty and campfire smoky from a more pronounced Latakia taste. The last part of the bowl, I get mustiness and fermentation from the Perique.

I really enjoy this Fall/Winter tobacco, a perfect porch or balcony smoke for me. Even if puffed fast, no gurgle, a dry pipe and the flavors are creamy and meld nicely, especially for a Burley blend. An instant American/English classic.

My only problem and it's one I have with Burley blends, is the nicotine level. A medium to strong strength prevents this tobacco to be an all day for me. It must also be the Perique that increases the nicotine absorption, I would guess.

I picked this blend because it had a lot of English qualities and all of my go to's were on back order. What a surprise This is a great blend. I will agree that it looks a little bit like a train wreck out of the bag but it's amazing once you get into it. It's cool smoking and great tasting. I've been puffing away on it for close to two hours and it's delicious. What a great blend.

This mixture really surprised me. Smelling it in the jar at my local tobacconist, I really thought this would be a mediocre blend at best. Looking to try new English blends, I decided to give it a try anyway. It was a mellow smoke with subtle earthy tones. Not at all strong, but it was a relaxing experience. The burley really stands out amid the smoky Latakia.

With all of the tobaccos listed in this blend, I thought that there must be something to like, so, after the recommendation of a friend, after smoking two bowls in a sampler kindly sent to me by an ASP member, and after reading the reviews here, I ordered four ounces to give it a real try.

Dull. Exceedingly, almost excruciatingly, dull.

And I could end this review right here. But I'll continue.

I'm not a big Burley fan, so when I do smoke Burleys I expect there to be some interesting tobacco(s) blended with it to give it some taste. BFP seemed right up my alley with the Latakia (of which I am a big fan), Perique (which I enjoy as well) and some smooth, sweet Virginias (which I expected) then, and the first two bowls smoked did seem to have a complexity that was hard to pin down.

When my four ounces arrived there was a good deal of dust in the bag - a result, I suppose, of the dry state of Cornell & Diehl's blends and handling during shipping. I persevered, though, and packed and fired up (almost literally - can't we have a wee bit of moisture before the whole nursing home is aflame?) a bowl.

It wasn't quite the taste I remembered, or expected.

There have been many comparisons here to 'old-fashioned American' blends, but I don't recall ever smoking anything this unexciting. BFP makes Carter Hall seem like an exotic, enticing blend. The description mentions savoring, but for all my love of Latakia and Perique, I can find nothing here to "savor". I taste nothing but cheap Burley, with no undertones of the blended tobaccos. I also find the strength so bland that "mild" is too mild a word to describe the blend.

DoctotThoss compared this to Nightcap - and I hope he does not mean Dunhill's Nightcap as that's a tobacco that I've been in love with for 25 years and through different manufacturers and to compare it to BFP is a disservice to Dunhill. Others have stated that BFP is terrific for lovers of Latakia and Perique and I strongly disagree with that assumption as well. Ducksbreath is spot-on in saying that there is very little Latakia taste and barely detectable Perique.

I suppose some will think I'm being overly harsh here, but this just isn't my cup of tea at all. I'll hold on to the two or so ounces that are remaining to see if it improves with age (and I might add a bit of moisture to the bag), and will revisit it in six months or so. But, as it is, I cannot recommend Bailey's Front Porch.

I find the previous review amusing. This is not a very good English or Balkan, because it isn't either one. It is an American Burley blend. It is reminiscent of numerous old otc blends which once thundered across the plains in herds.

I have read enough of Mr. Runowski's posts on ASP to know he meant to evoke memories of Allen & Unwin when he formulated this. I am too young to know anything about that blend, but if you know anything about America in the 1940s and 1950s, we were all about moderation, conformity... tastes were rather bland.

The progenitor of this blend was probably meant to give the average Prince Albert, Granger, Kentucky Club kind of guy a taste of exotic spice tobaccos. Not too much spice mind you, just enough to make it interesting.

That is precisely what this blend does. It is pleasant, comfortable, with just a little tease of spice, indeed a far cry from Penzance, or Royal Tudor No. 99. I like it a bunch, as I like mildly spiced blends more than the heavy hitters. I also love good Burley blends.

It is typical C&D, no topping or humectants. Add a little water if it is too dry. Some folks like to age them a bit, but I never had any trouble with the fresh stuff. I find their rustic edginess comforting. You might too.

I’ve been sampling through the C&D bulk burley catalog, and this one is right near the top for me. Two minutes in to my first bowl, this reminded me of Burley Flake #4, which is one of my favorite blends. Of course, #4 has Kentucky, this has perique, but the resemblance is uncanny. #4 is more full flavored and BFP comes in around a medium. This blend could be an all day smoke. The cut is mixed with ribbon and some small amounts of broken flake. The burley and Latakia form a soft cocoa flavor profile. The perique is detectable, and in perfect proportion. BFP smokes cool, dry and slow. This actually improves the farther down the bowl it burns, but can get an ashy flavor if over puffed. A very good bulk tobacco at an inexpensive price earns Bailey’s Front Porch 4 stars in my book.

This is an odd blend. Like many C&D blends the burley is the main player and thats fine, but here the other elements, in particular the latakia, seem to lose character somehow. The whole is somehow less than the sum of the parts. Its fine but id not buy it again.

There's nothing particularly wrong with this blend specially if you like burley blends, but for all the ingredients listed on this blend I was expecting a consistent blend during my smoke, at first you get citrusy virginia along with a very mild latakia and very high quality perique,but after the first half of the bowl all I could taste was the burley a very hot prone to tongue bite ashy burley, now this would not bother me if it was for the sole fact that this is been advertised as a american style english. In my humble opinion this blend would benefit more if they switch out the perique and added orientals to the mix. Personally I don't think that aging does anything to this blend.

I'm smoking this blend as I write this review. It's totally satisfying and actually sorta delicious. Full of flavor without any of the tobaccos being overpowering. This is a wonderful english style blend for the experienced piper.

I go back and forth on this blend. It's considerably more complex than most of the American/English blends on the market, with almost enough perique to make it reminiscent of Nightcap. Another reviewer mentioned that it's like smoking all the colors of the rainbow, and I'm inclined to agree. It's a nice smoke, and I've got some cellared to see what aging does to it, but it's not quite as good as other C&D offerings in the same genre. On the plus side, it has good burning characteristics and doesn't bite unless provoked.

Bailey?s Front Porch is where Bailey sits. He is sitting because he will fall over if he stands after smoking his namesake blend. This is as potent as it is cool, rich, full, heavy and deep. I am a little surprised BFP is rated a bit milder by others on this site. TEHO

BFP as burley-based mixture is not really nutty, but cigar-like, somewhat. The tin aroma says there?s some kind of casing or topping, so does smoking it, however faint if not fabled. HFTH vs. BFP, HFTH is brighter in flavor, a bit sweeter (though hardly a sweet blend) and more the all day blend despite its weight, whereas BFP nicely follows dinner with a distilled something. The colors of both blends are in opposite proportions to each other, HFTH being overall lighter, BFP darker. HFTH is the finer cut, while BFP is chunky and meaty.

BFP is to Home for the Hills as Old Joe Krantz is to Haunted Bookshop, though HFTH/BFP are closer in strength than the former two. This could be considered the darker, swarthy cousin of Old Joe Krantz with the addition of latakia. I place this between Nightcap and Mississippi Mud as two notable, fuller latakia & perique blends. BFP is vastly more complex than both, cooler than Nightcap, and more companionable than either.

Bailey?s is a blend for the lover of perique and latakia, because both are present in abundance. If this or OJK have not enough perique for you, consider trying Bayou Night, or better yet, just fill your bowl with McClelland?s blending perique. For all day smoking, I can alternate between HFTH and Haunted Bookshop with immense satisfaction, and end the day with OJK and/or BFP.

I got away from burley blends for awhile, for 3 reasons: 1) The room note is fine at the time, but gets really awful IMO when stale. 2)They are pretty strong (in nicotine) for how often I smoke. 3)Burleys I've tried so far get this incredible acrid bitterness on me sometimes.

So I left the OJK and Bailey?s from C&D?s sampler pack in the truck and take a crack at them just occasionally. For me, a straight VA or a mild English can hold body and soul together almost anytime, but I?m beginning to find that on occasion a nice burley blend is the answer for a blissful smoke. Last night driving home was just such an occasion, and so we look at Bailey?s Front Porch. This is a mix of burley, Virginia, latakia, and perique from Cornell and Diehl. It is mostly dark black, with some light tan VA and the dark mahogany perique. To start off, it has a mouthwatering sweetness I really like. It is full but light, not sickening or sticky. The sweetness I didn?t really care for at first, but I?ve since changed my mind. The smoky and spicy of the latakia and the perique intertwine nicely to balance the sweetness and fullness of the base tobaccos. 2/3 of the way through, the expected burley nuttiness comes forward, and holds steady through the end. Not super complex or anything, but many times simple and straightforward is just what is needed.

There is neither anything spectularly wrong with this, nor anything outstandingly good. There are so many characterful English or Balkan mixtures of high quality around that Bailey's Front Porch leaves an impression of insipidity. The presentation is attractive, and the burn qualities good.

Although it wasn?t really (George) Bailey?s front porch, the name of this blend always reminds me of the scene in the movie ?It?s a Wonderful Life? when the pipe smoking character actor, sitting on his front porch, barks out to George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) and Mary Hatch (Donna Reed) who are on the sidewalk and says, ?Why don't you kiss her instead of talking her to death??

Bailey?s Front Porch will take you back to the mid 20th century when this movie was made and when such American English or Americanized English blends started to proliferate on drug store counters. I found BFP to be a lighter American English blend. The burley predominates with the latakia close behind but the Virginia does make its presence known. I could not discern the perique. It burns cool with no bite and has excellent burning qualities. If you like Revelation, Barking Dog, Junkyard Dawg, Easy Times and/or Home From The Hills, then join Bailey on his front porch for a great, old-fashioned, smoke!

A cigarette is to be smoked. A cigar is to be enjoyed. A pipe is to be savored.

I rate this tobacco 8.5 out of 10.

I rate this only somewhat recommended simply because, compared to the other tobaccos in this series (most notably Old Joe Krantz), BFP is just not strong enough. Compared to Morley's Best there is very little Latakia taste. I did detect the Perique, barely, and the overall effect is quite quite smooth and nice, with a charming sweetness from the VAs. I can see many a pipe smoker loving this. I ,however, usually gravitate toward more robust mixtures.

I do think this is more refined (smoother, higher quality Burley) than similar offereings from other manufactuers, but without any topping.

This is another great burley blend from Cornell & Diehl. Nobody does these better in my opinion.

The tobacco comes quite dry like most C&D blends, is built with quality tobaccos, and burns cleanly to a fine ash. This has not displaced Morley's Best as my favorite C&D burley, but it is good. The taste is mainly burley, nicely smoothed out and complemented by condimental tobaccos. It's a friendly, old-fashioned taste that stays pretty constant to the bottom of the bowl, getting a little smokier and stronger toward the bottom of the bowl.

Highly recommended if you like burley.

I discovered this blend while looking for a replacement for Revelation as my supplier was out at the time. Burley base with latakia and perique I really love this combination. This has a wonderfull flavor that is hard to describe but I think you old timey burley blend smokers know what I mean. I will buy more and I also look forward to trying other blends in this series such as Old Joe Krantz and Morley's best. All and all I'm glad I found it this will probably be my all day this summer.

If you like Revelation, but aren't real happy with that berry topping? Look no further- this is your blend. Bob Runowski is the great sage of our time for rejuvenating and resurecting the blends of yesteryear- With no thought to cheapening or price point. Quality leaf, blended to make history. This blend is fun to smoke, Sweet, Smokey, nutty- It truely is FUN to smoke. At home in a cob, or Dunhill Billiard. This is your friend. If Einstein was alive, his revelation would be to hang with Bailey on the porch and smoke.... Its that good.

I am a new smoker and you finding me at the end of of a long trek, trying about 100 different tobaccos. My friend (talon) and I have found different tastes vary wide from person to person. This tobacco is so good. I cannot put my finger on it but i love it. It has a nostalic feeling and aroma. It is full and smooth smoke, it taste unique and lusty. Latakia is first and up front but not over powering. The rest is in distinguishable but all adds up to a great blend, I personally will smoke all day. I love the review mentioning George Bailey and it reminded it of the Story and the era of that time. for all you hopless romantics out there, this is one form yesteryear and today.

Bailey's Front Porch is yet another great American English from burley master Bob Runowski. It contains burley, Virginia, perique, and Cyprian latakia, for a rich, stout, eminently smokable blend that one could puff on all day long without getting bored or a sore tongue.

There's something wonderful about C&D's latakia--as it ages, even over just a month or two, it acquires a powerful, rich, fermented smell that I love. This blend reminds me somewhat of Yale Mixture, another favorite of mine.

By all means, order some and fill your pipe with this fine tobacco. And thank me later. ;)

Neither offensive nor spectacular, BFP presents a consistent, middle-of-the-road smoke.

With soft beginning, an only slightly ammoniacal ending, and little variation in between, BFP is easily an all-day/heavy consumption blend, as the nicotine level is reasonable but on the lower end of the scale.

BFP requires little effort to get/stay lit; moisture level works fine right out of the tin, though there is strangely a bit more gurggle than would be expected from this kind of blend (but it certainly never approaches the level of a cased aromatic).

Short story: Good stuff, but I'll probably only smoke this when the 'Old Joe Krantz' runs out.

I would like to thank C&D for producing this excellent tobacco of yesteryear. I once liked Revelation but I always thought it was missing the mark in someway. C&D has captured the mixture and went one up. Front Porch is fantastic! It's full enough to please and satisfy,without any extra addatives. It has a colorful flavour,as if you were smoking all the colors in the spectrum. Amazing absolutely amazing.

Quite the interesting blend right from the very beginning. The tobacco is ?chunky? ? a big coarse cube cut. Colors range from bright yellow to near black.

The chunky cut meant a bit more effort in getting it lit, even though it was nice and dry. The Perique and Latakia are in perfect measure and complement rather than compete with the Burley. The overall taste is pleasant, relaxing. Not overly complex, Front Porch does come across with a few nuances. The most common was a smoky, almost whiskey-like taste that would come out for a puff or two and then leave as fast as it came. In fact, at first I thought there might even be a top dressing on this blend, but I don?t believe there actually is.

Good stuff. Very undemanding. Get comfortable and smoke it on your front porch as you watch the world go by?.
