We started with the Balkan base of Mongrel Dog and added more perique for extra spiciness, then more Syrian Latakia for that smoky aroma the Firehouse Dog craves and sniffs the air for.

This Dog was gifted to me by the blender, a good friend, and I'm grateful I got to meet this bow-wow. Plumes of smoke billowed out, perfect humidity level for smoking. This is vintage 2003. I really liked this blend a good deal, the only thing preventing me giving it 4 solid stars is that the perique just about blew my head off. The Orientals and the Vas played well with each other and the latakia sat in the back seat and watched as this dog could not be muzzled. Very nice.

*I have been told by the blender that Firehouse Dog was re-formulated once they had to switch from Syrian to Cyprian Latakia. At Jack's, the former "Firehouse Dog," is now known as "CAMPFIRE DOG."

I just smoked back to back bowls of Campfire Dog (formerly known as Firehouse Dog.) I don't think I'll need another pipe until tomorrow morning. Whew! This one leaves tobacco paste on the palate.

This blend is everything indicated by the above descriptive and then some. Quality leaf from top to bottom and loaded with a variety of flavors. This blend morfs as you work your way down the bowl. Sometimes the Latakia is King Kong. Then the Perique takes over. Then the Turkish.....

I'm sure I'll be reserving the rest of this pouch for quiet evenings while reading a book or watching TV. For this cowboy, a morning smoke it ain't.

If Campfire Dog (formerly Firehouse Dog) was a participant in the AKC Nationals, it'd win Best of Breed.

With 12th Anniversary I thought I had found my favorite of Jack?s blends, if not my favorite all-day smoke. Then I tried Firehouse Dog and 12th was nudged out of first place. The two share the same base, but Firehouse Dog lacks some of the Orientals that are found in 12th Anniversary. This takes away some of the spiciness of the smoke, leaving just a smooth, cool, and still very flavorful smoke. It also takes away some of the bitterness late in the bowl that one finds with the anniversary blend.

As with Jack?s 12th Anniversary, I highly recommend that you try this blend. I?ve cellared some of this and can't wait to try it with some age on it.

Firehouse Dog. April 2004. If you are a lover of latakia, virginia, perique and also enjoy a dab of turkish in your tobacco. Then your on a winner here! This is definitely a very good decent offering of quality without any cheap fillers here, such as cavendish and other flavourings. I love Night Cap,Penzance,965,Early Morning etc;- And I also love straight virginias and v-perique blends. And I just love Firehouse Dog as well. Easy to light, smoke and thoroughly delicious. In its class 4 stars out of 4.

I ordered some of this a few years ago before the latakia had to change from Syrian to Cyprian, which resulted in the name change that Pipestud mentioned. The mix of tobaccos was perfect and this provided a heavy dose of latakia. I thought it was a good tobacco for a late winter evening relaxing at home. I haven't tried the new (and renamed) version, but if it is anywhere near as good as the original, its a keeper. Four stars for Firehouse Dog.
