A hand rubbed flake for friends of exquisite English tobacco mixtures.

Notes: Louisiana perique and Oriental tobaccos were pressed and cut into 2,1mm flake-slices and rubbed out by hand afterwards. This mixture is refined by pitch black Latakia.

This truly is an overlooked blend - though Ms. Heinrichs told me it's one of their best-selling blends this doesn't get much attention as I perceive it. Yet it deservers some love! This is a fine, bold yet smooth english blend!

First off, the description may be misleading, but this a rubbed out flake, not a flake cut, I also thought to get a flake, but it's finely rubbed out Ready Rubbbed. Pitch-black colouring with very few medium-brown sprinkles in it.

The tin-aroma is ethereal, smoky with some buttery, silky and mild sweetness. and very Oriental (in the sense of feeling being in the Orient, not because of the Oriental leaf). Comes quite moist though, but oh my, it's rubbed out flake at last no big suprise.

In the pipe No. 15 is interesting, yet I'm still pondering whether to take this into my rotation or not. The Latakia is a star-player, but really the three components were married very, very well and create a unique character. It's smoky, very herbal and peppery-spicy with some fruiy edges from the Perique. The Perique is moderatley added, not too strong, yet always noticeably spicy. Aroma of wood, smoke, leathery tones, some sweetness... very silky smoke that's far from being aggresive and the absence of Virginia is a blessing to this blend.

It's mainly spicy and smoky with some sweetness flattening the edges, yet I suspect a hint of sweet-flavour added to it. Solid blend, but more of a niche tobacco imho.

Pipe Used: Clays and Briars
