A ready rubbed Virginia from different origins forms the basis of Olaf Poulsson No. 42 Special Cut from Dan Tobacco. From golden yellow to dark brown tobacco, everything is there that promises a complex and varied smoking pleasure. This interesting pipe tobacco was also provided with a casing of vanilla, rum, honey and fruit, which gives it a casual, light touch.
Lever the top off this tin you'll find an assortment of cuts. Rather dry cuts actually.
You name it, it's in here ; bits of flake, bits of ready rubbed, bits of plug, wood shavings, pine needles and sawdust. Alright, of course I made the last few up, but there really could be anything in here.
It gives off a typically Danish aroma ; not particularly strong, but enough to make sure you are looking at an aromatic. It leans towards apricot, or maybe berries of some kind mixed with a little alcohol, rum, it says on their description.
The first mouthful is very pleasant I must say, but after that it becomes blander and blander until there is virtually no taste at all. Even my best meers can't do much with this one. Endless relights and it is so, so dry.
If it wasn't for the strangeness of the tobacco cuts in here I'd say this was akin to a mild aromatic like Ashton's Rainy Day or perhaps Larsen's Signature. This obviously lacks the quality of those blends and you have to remind yourself how cheap a blend this is.
It's going to be a long plod with this tin.
