I've smoked this a few times, always hoping to change my mind and like it. It has all the elements of a good blend. The fruity toppings tasted a little artificial, and the rum was weak. The perique was very mild as was the smoky, woody Cyprian latakia. I hardly noticed the spice or raisins from the perique. The rest of the ingredients never seemed to be of high quality. The Virginia, lightly woody Kentucky, and burley were less sweeter than expected, with very little nuttiness and earth, though the Va. was a kind of grassy. Very dull and boring, though it burned well enough. It tended to smoke hot and harsh near the finish with a cardboard hit. Left little moisture in the bowl, and needed few relights. Had a mild nic-hit. Maybe the Philip Morris version that Albert Einstein smoked was better, but I never tried it, and can only go by what I smoked.

Edit 10-14-2015: Recently, I was fortunate enough to try the 1950s Philip Morris version, and another batch of the HoW version from the 1980s. The '50s version had most of the virtues and fewer of the drawbacks of my original review, though the topping and latakia had faded some with time. However, the HoW version I was gifted is a big improvement from the earlier HoW versions I have smoked. The Cyprian latakia had some smoky woody strength in a supporting role, and was not dulled by time. The perique was a minor player, with spice and plum. The Virginia was grassy, citrus sweet. The burley was nutty, and a little earthy as it competed and complimented the Virginia. The Kentucky was lightly woody in the background. The fruity topping is pleasantly sweet, slightly tangy; the rum was just noticeable. There's some spice here that I have noticed in other HoW products that doesn't come from perique, so it must be the way one of the components was manufactured. Had a mild nic-hit. Burned well, reasonably cool, though it needed to be sipped a little, and left a dry bowl. Needed few relights. Had a decent after taste, and was an all day smoke.

It is common knowledge that HoW had severe quality control problems by the end of the 1990s, and into the 2000s before they ceased production in 2004. This version I have been smoking obviously came from one of the good batches, and I award it three stars. I'm leaving my overall rating at two stars because with HoW, you never know what you will get when you find a vintage tin.

Another winner from the House of Windsor. This is another Virginia/Burley/Latakia/Perique mixture that circled the bases for me. I never tasted the Perique and the Latakia raised its head just once in awhile. There is a substantial top coating in this stuff, and it smelled and tasted very nice indeed. Revelation is regarded as the blend of choice by Albert Einstein. I think his palate also had a high IQ. This stuff is light, tasty,nicotine laden and doesn't bite a bit. What's not to like?

Update 5/15/05=

A fellow http://www.tobaccoreviews.com member recently was kind enough to send me a tin and several packs of Revelation. I have not opened the tin yet, so I don't know whether the tinned version is any different than the pouch version. (Although I'm not sure why, a blend sometimes tastes "different" when coming from a pouch rather than a tin and vice versa.) Anyway, it remains delicious. (IMO, of course)

I promise to not make any Einstein jokes, but feel that his name is forever tied to this blend. On the other hand this Virginia/Burley/Latakia/Perique blend is rather ordinary other than the fact that I can not quite figure what the casing is. It has the sweetness of fruit but I get some pine flavors at times too. I am not sure what it is, but I like it. This blend is at best an average blend, not spectacular. Maybe it is best put that it is just one step above a drug store blend. The latakia is relatively bland, and the Perique is almost not there at all. But it smokes cool and is great for a quick smoke in a small pipe. Besides the room note is quite nice as well.

This review is of the Philip Morris version of Revelation. I purchased a tin that I can only guess came from the 50's. The tin was sealed shut as it had a piano hinge on it and was taped with red tape around the top. Inside the tobacco was within a paper enclosure and was very dry when I first opened it.

I rehydrated to about where I like my tobaccos and had a go at it. I must say that there is no doubt in my mind that the lack of pleasure I derived from the blend is probably directly correlated to the detrimental effects of too much time in the tin.

The latakia had lost all its punch as very little smokiness remained. Ditto that on the topping and the burley was likewise flat. The smoke was very much of the cardboard variety.

Why do I mention all of this anyway? Well, my only point with this review is to say two things. 1. based on my experience with this sealed tin and the fact that this tobacco has not been produced in so long, I doubt any modern piper will ever know exactly what Einstein liked about this blend as it seems to me impossible to find it intact.

The second point is to advise someone against spending a lot of money to try this should you see an open tin appear on ebay or anywhere else. You will be disappointed.

As for the HOW version, I will take the word of all the experienced pipers I know who have tried it and just trust that I will continue to prefer C&D epiphany over that. :)

Thankfully the topping scent doesn't translate exactly to the taste! I can taste extremely mild fruit but it blends in with the tobacco itself and actually makes this one better than I think it would be without the topping.

This has everything but the kitchen sink in it but it seems to work well. The latakia is noticeable but not overpowering. The taste is dominated by the virginias and the perique taste seems to "wander", showing up occasionally. After smoking and loving Cornell & Diehl's Epiphany and being told it was modeled after Revelation, I came into this with some bias. However, this doesn't smoke much like Epiphany at all, and I was told E was blended to taste like the old Philip Morris Revelation. At any rate, this is a worthy replacement, even though it is not as perfectly harmonious and flavorful as Epiphany.

If you can find this, give it a spin. It's a very congenial blend with a lot of flavor and no bite. It's just fun to smoke!

I recently received a sample of Revelation from a pipe-forum friend and I am very happy that I took him up on his offer for a taste of this.

My sample was cube cut and easy to pack, light and smoke. When lit there’s a subtle fruity plum like flavor that lingers on the tip of the tongue. The latakia plays nicely in the background while a slight sweetness comes through with the pleasant toasty burley flavor. In short time the flavor becomes more complex with a heavy emphasis on musty, tangy & smoky. The mustiness mainly comes through on exhale and reminds me of the note I taste smoking Greg Pease's Barbary Coast.

Revelation produces plumes of cool rich tasting, spicy smoke. The flavors are perfectly balanced and well defined. Frankly, I enjoyed smoking this more than any of the modern day reproduction blends I have tried. There are a couple match blends that I really adore, so that's saying a lot.

If only all remaining samples of this discontinued blend could be this good..

Having finally had the chance to try this, I can see how R Blend and Painter Hills (and Epiphany to a large degree) are matches. The dark fruit is mild and helps meld the flavors, the Latakia, Kentucky, and VA play deep background supporting roles ('ll take their word on the Perique). I found it a bit bitey in the middle of the bowl, but otherwise a very nice, interesting smoke.

Age When Smoked: about 9 years

Similar Blends: R Blend, Painter Hills, Epiphany.

As an OTC blend (although that's really not what it is anymore) this is reasonably good tobacco. It lights and burns easily with little tongue bite. If I have any criticism it's that somewhere in the middle of a bowl the flavors all become muddled. At first light I can distinguish various elements, but as the bowl progresses the various flavors seem to pool together into a relatively non-descript taste. I'm not a connoisseur and I don't always need to analyze each taste in a blend, but somehow this one ends up tasting like wet cardboard. Although burley is a fine tobacco, care must be taken when mixing it with a variety of others as it can flatline the taste. Still I can see where this blend could be a favorite for many.

I love this stuff. It isn't choosy about its pipe, almost packs by itself,it's easy to keep a smolder going w/out huffing, price is very good and, oh, yes, the taste is terrific.

I bought 10 oz about 18 mos ago, misted it lightly with distilled water and put it away in a Ball jar. The treatment definitely didn't hurt and may have helped.

Couple caveats: my missus, who is usally reasonable about my pipeweed, complained that this one is beyond her tolerance level. Einstein may have liked it, but she doesn't. So I confine Revelation to my No Girls Allowed room.

Personally, I like the aroma a lot when I leave and then return to the room I've been smoking Revelation in. But smell seems to be an especially subjective sense ...

My supply of Revelation seems to have quite a bit of dust -- or small particles -- mixed in it. My packing routine usually deselects them.

Based on smoking Revelation in pipes that have been (mostly) dedicated to pipes used for either Latakia or Virginia blends, I'd say it has some tendency to leave a signature in a briar, although not a permanent one.

If you haven't yet tried Revelation, you certainly owe yourself a sample. Sometimes, in mid-bowl, I ask myself, "Why wouldn't someone like this?" And I haven't come up with an answer, yet.

For me, smoking Revelation is a bit of a Jekyll-and-Hyde experience. The first third of the bowl, which seems weighted toward the bright Virginias and fruit topping this blend includes, can be bitey, sour, and unpleasant to taste. The last half to two-thirds of the bowl, when the blend cools down and the Latakia makes its presence known, is wonderful: cool, rich, smooth and tasty. I very much like the second half of the bowl, but care so little for the first part that I probably won't restock Revelation in my vast and commdious larder.

That being said, smoking Revelation is a lot of fun, as you get to smoke an old timey American blend that Einstein smoked. The ingredients used are excellent, with a particularly good Burley pulling this blend together.

I found this blend smoked much better for me after I ran it through a strainer to remove the tobacco dust and then rehydrated it.

All in all, terrific quality for a "drugstore" smoke, but I look forward to a better smoking experience with another of the House of Windsor blends.

I first smoked Revelation back in the late 70's, early 80's, and recall it being my first tobacco with Latakia that I could tolerate on a regular basis. I loved the packaging - a nice little box with the sealed foil packet. I distinctly remember the packaging saying, "a fruity, nutty blend." Well, I never really tasted anything that reminded me of fruit, and as for nutty, well, not really. Mind you, I was new to the game and couldn't taste much beyond the Latakia. I still have another box - well over 25 years old (the quoted description now saying, "it's mild and mellow"). From time to time, I smoke a half-bowl in a very small-bowled pipe just for old times sake and find it quite enjoyable. It is not the HOW version (I never had that version), as my package says it is made under authority of Philip Morris by United States Tobacco Co. What a shame it is no longer being produced as what little I have still delivers true tobacco taste and enjoyment.

HoW blends are pretty good. They are like good otc blends, but they sell at a premium price. Coupled with sporadic availability, they seem to be doomed.

I like Revelation. It is a classic American blend. It may not be like the original, but that doesn't really matter these days. There aren't too many pipesters who remember the original anyway.

Taken on its own terms it is good. However, it is not worth what it is usually priced at on the net. If you can find it locally, and the price is right, I heartily recommend it. Otherwise, there are many, better quality blends in a similar vein.

Revelation has been my favorite and only tobacco I smoke now for several years. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful blend! For many years I smoked Dunhill Nightcap and Dunhill My Mixture 965 and upon trying my first pipeful of Revelation, the Dunhill Tins were moved to the back of my humidor. I enjoy this blend in every pipe I own. For those who love a blend that will wake you up in the morning, restart you in the afternoon and relax you in the evening,this is the one! A great all day smoke, it fills the bill for me at all levels. After smoking this in everything from Dunhill's right down to Kaywoodies, I fully understand why this was Albert Einsteins favorite smoke!! HIGHLY recommended!!

Hey?!!! This stuff ain't bad! Another winner brought back from beyond the grave by HOW. They certainly had more winners than losers. This blend is very pleasant in that old school way that you never see anymore. It is very similiar to Country Doc but with more of a berry casing added in. This will be great in the summertime rotation!

My sample is quite old 22 years and quite dry the HOW version. All I can smell from the bag is the Latakia and a touch of sweetness. Whatever toppings might have been applied are long gone. Packs very easy it might have been a coarse cut at some point in its life but its just small flakes now. What's interesting is the tobacco still has quite a bit of flavor on its own and its very smooth. the burley and the Virginia are the most noticeable flavors adding just the right amount of sweetness that gets a bit sweeter as you progress through the bowl, with the perique adding just a wisp of fig, raisin flavor . I have no idea what a fresh batch of this would taste like but this is a really nice mild smoke with all tobacco flavors. Not sure I will ever get any of this vintage again but I will give the new match a try out of curiosity.

Pretty decent smoke, havent tried the "match", so cant say anything negative about it other that "match" usually means "no match whatsoever." Could smell some latakia along with a fruit-like undertone. It smoked dry, and didnt bite. All in all, a decent blend if you can find it.

I've tried a Revelation match, available in the UK from McGahey's in Exeter. I don't know how like the old-time Revelation it is, because I don't have any basis for comparison.

Einstein liked it, apparently. Well, each to his own. Personally, I thought it rather insipid. Several flavours are there, but there is always the feeling that they could be stronger and more defined. Too many flavours, perhaps: a tobacco that tries to be too many things at once. All right, but … meh: a bit like drinking watered beer, I thought.

Somewhat recommended, for people who like ‘American' tobaccos, but I wouldn't buy it again. Not easy to come by in the UK anyway.

Why am I even reviewing this? Hasn't been available for years (though I wisely stocked up, have been savoring every pipeful, and actually still have several cans left.) Maybe this is just a cry in the wilderness - someone reading this might be in a position to bring this wonderful mixture back.

As with every mixture, those who like this kind of thing will find that it's the kind of thing they like. Just for the record, I'm a big fan of non-aromatic burley blends. And this was, in my opinion, the crown achievement in that category. The nutty, slightly sweet flavor, rich body and comforting aroma all say "honest". The cut is like nothing else - so easy to pack a caveman could do it. And something about the easy way it holds a fire just says "Take your time, baby. Smoke me real slow." I've smoked this stuff in every type and size of pipe imaginable, indoors and out, in all manner of conditions, and it simply doesn't bite. Of course, no mixture is perfect, and this is no exception. Like most burleys, it can occasionally suffer from a somewhat bitter finish - this seems to happen when moisture collects in the heel, so I go slow and dry it out a little in the summer to compensate for higher atmospheric humidity.

HOW Revelation is kind of like a Paul McCartney bass line - it isn't terribly complex, still I find it hard to put my finger on what's so special about it. Guess they must've sprinkled it with fairy dust. Those of you who love(d) it will know what I mean.

(Just a note about the various Revelation matches: They all have their good qualities, and I continue to smoke them off and on, but they all suffer from the same deficiency - no fairy dust!)

I ordered a House of Windsor sample pack some years ago, and Revelation was the only one I had left that I hadn't finished. A couple months ago, I decided to smoke my 2 oz. As a previous poster remarked, it is very much like Country Doctor. In the 1960's-70's, so many tobaccos were available everywhere, that it's no wonder I never tried Revelation. A pleasant smoke, but nothing to write home about. I noticed a unique note that I can't put my finger on. Maybe, fruity.

I can't say I'll miss Revelation or HOW. I probably wouldn't buy it again if available.

Revelation is another old House of Windsor offering that's a little different than their others like Union Leader, etc. Those who have smoked Country Doctor will see the similarity of these tobaccos. A motley combination of cubed white burley, darl cavendish like flakes and light flakes which are quite dry in consistency and idnicative of a possible tongue burner. Suprisingly, it is rather mild on the tongue with a slightly nutty flavour with a hint of latakia - though I could not detect any Perique as such. Revelation is better than most of the othe HOW offerings, but as I'm no latakia fan, it's not bad, but not one I'd wish for my desert island collection.

Getting hard to find, isn't it? Maybe that's why we've seen the major tobacco suppliers blending knock-offs of these old-timey blends. I found a couple of 10 oz. cannisters of the "real" Revelation (like that pictured above) at a nearby tobacconist and bought them both.

Why? Because this tobacco, to me anyway, is a rather mild English-like concoction that produces a room note like a downtown men's club and a comfortable aroma that one can enjoy all day long. It's easy to pack in the pipe and there's virtually none of the tongue bite often associated with many Latakia/Perique blends. There are more expensive and fuller, more rounded English blends to be sure, but I keep on coming back to this old standby. It's not as suffocating as some of the really strong English blends can be.

Forget about the "drug store" variety of this tobacco; don't try to figure out what the flavoring is. Just sit back and enjoy a blend that grows on you with time. For some reason you'll find yourself coming back to it again and again...if you can find it.

This delicious beauty has everything, and it all works! Spectacular blend, I rate it off the scale, with Five Stars and highly recommend this blend. When I was younger, I couldn't stand Revelation, but as my tastebuds grew in maturity... Don't let this tobacco get away. Flavors are complex yet subtle. Room note, very pleasant. Strength, medium. Personally, I mix one pound to 4 ounces added of Latakia. I'm beginning to wonder if I add more Oriental or Turkish, what flavors it would yield. I always considered Revelation, an American spin, on a British-type pipe smoking mixture. When the sky is pewter, air is damp and dismal and my bones ache (I live 18 feet off of the Atlantic Ocean), I smoke nothing but Revelation, to restore my spirit. If I require the campfire tones, I light my pipe with wooden kitchen matches. Usually, I use a Zippo, and love it. What a loss to the pipe smoking world, since House of Windsor went out of business. Now I aggressively hunt down remaining stock of Revelation, and thankfully, there is Revelation-Match.

Now this is an interesting and compelling blend for me. I'll be honest and state that my palate is not discerning enough to fully distinguish everything in it. But what I can taste is enough to keep me comming back for more. I've gone through several tins of this, and it never seems to taste the same twice. I've never picked up the "fruity" taste others have commented on, the words which come to mind are "nutty" "woodsey" and "earthen."

My wife and kids have told me it smells "ok" which means it smells rather pungent to them.

The dominant tin notes of this mixture of fine cubes and very short ribbon are the fetid turkish and the fruity topping (grape or raspberry, perhaps) along with grassy burley.

Flavor seems initially dominated by the piquant gold VAs, however the burley, red VA, and perique soon make themselves known. Present throughout, the latakia is not dominant, though it gains fullness down the bowl. The combination of the VAs, perique, and topping give an impression of sweetness, though this is not a particularly sweet smoke. The acridity of the turkish combines with the other components to present a sour, bitter, and sweet concoction that enhances the nutty undertones of the burley. Throughout the bowl, the topping remains present, though it folds admirably into the whole.

Revelation is remarkably complex yet remains balanced and companionable. As such, it is an ideal all-day blend for the adventurous puffer. This seemed best in a narrow gauge chamber.

This is a friendly tobacco. You can smoke this all day if you wanted to. Not to strong. Very mild actually. Lot's of different flavors in here if you are patient enough to look for them. If you've been wanting to try latakia but was worried it would be to strong, give this a try. Has just a little in here. Look for the smokey flavor. That's what Latakia tastes like. If you like it you can always try a stronger one later. Overall, pretty good stuff!

This is my favorite American blend. It has almost everything. The balance between the composites is uniqe, in my experience; and I first smoked a pipe at age 5, 55 years ago.

All of the various tobaccos are first-rate. I love the taste and smell so much it is almost good enough to eat.

If you like a complex smoke ( like the best English) then give this a try. I think you will like it.

This has been one of my all time favorite blends for almost 40 years. I smoked this on occasion years ago when it was a Phillip Morris product, back in the day we used to consider this a ?very strong? blend. Ten or so years ago when House of Windsor brought it back I was ecstatic and it became my ?go to? tobacco for a number of years. This appears to me to be predominately burley with a seasoning of more flavorful condiment tobaccos, topped with a very light flavoring which some have described as almost ?fruity or citrus? in nature. I certainly no longer consider this as a ?strong? blend simply flavorful for an over the counter burley. Burns cool with not a hint of bite. I am carefully hoarding my remaining supply of Revelation and will definitely seek out one of the ?matches? currently available.

Invariably dry in the pouch as I have purchased it, this is one of those strange tobaccos which I like, but can't quite bing myself to smoke continuously. I'll start thinking about Revelation, I'll go out and buy a package, dump its crunchy contents into a ziplock and spray with distilled H2o to rehydrate, then I'll get on a "Revelation kick", I'll revel in the complexity of the 5 tobaccos, drink like mead the smooth pepper/campfire notes, I'll marvel at the discreet topdresing and I'll fall in love with the way my dank old Volvo smells after I smoke it with the windows closed. I almost completely abandon my usual daytime burleys, burn through about 1.5 packages in a week and all of a sudden I loose my taste for it all of a sudden it seems flat and harsh...then in about a month or two, the same thing happens again...this has been going on for at least a year now...I suspect that it was better in the olden days and came across as something more along the lines of a Fox and Hound or other mild mild english. The top dressing is berryish, similar in some ways to that of Kentucky Club (different blender) and I can't seem to notice any perique at all, although I certainly can smell the latakia in the mixture and it probably would smoke alot hotter without it in the mix. The room note has recieved the typical unfavorable commentary from the female but I can't imagine it's any worse than any other tobacco. Try mixing this 2:1 with Middletons Cherry blend,the combination is pretty damn good as an all day smoke if you are a lover of "industrialized tobacco" like I am...

If you haven't tried it, go ahead and grab a pouch just to see what all the hoopla is about. I concur with the folks who have mentioned that if it came in a fancier tin with a heftier pricetag it would probably get better reviews for it is a strangely engaging kind of a smoke.

UPDATE 1/15/09: Took a year long hiatus from this and started back in on some pouches I purchased about two years ago. I seem to have gotten what might have been the last of the production run. Very "quality uncontrolled" from pouch to pouchwith a ton of casing on one pouch, almost none on the others, just seemed like a different blend of tobacco too. Unfortunately this tobacco is apparently completely out of production now. Just the other day I picked up a sealed plastic tub that had beeen lurking on the bottom shelf of my tobacconist for at least 5 years for HALF of it's sticker price (total cost about $12). I figure MAYBE it is still the quality stuff I remember. I'll probably hold onto it for a while before opening it...

what a shame...

I have no personally smoked this brand of tobacco, but remember my grandfather smoking it exclusively. I have tried to find this brand everywhere, but have been told the company is out of business and no longer sells this brand. Does anyone know where I can find Revelation sold? I received this in a sampler pack of House of Windsor tins. Revelation was several cuts above the rest of them. I have no way to compare to the old blend, but from the old Life magazine ads I've seen, it looked to be a very popular and easily obtainable brand, economically priced.

The cut of the tobacco was rather short and chunky, and it loaded easily. The aroma in the tin was hard to pin down, very pleasant and spicy. When I first smoked this, it seemed very strong to me as a very new pipe smoker. It stayed lit well even with a laid back puffing speed, and didn't taste like it smelled, just a fairly full tobacco flavor. I burned through this quicker than any of the other tins, but was discouraged from grabbing a large tin of this by strangely high prices of these blends.

I decided to give a free sample of Revelation a try, after reading that Albert Einstein was a fan of this. The aroma is unflavored but pleasant, the strength is nearly overwhelming after a full bowl, and it is best smoked in the car or wherever else pipes are tolerated. Revelation does not have a luxurious flavor, and it is less aromatic than Field & Stream. Yet, Revelation has a full earthy richness to its tobacco taste.

Now, I understand the popularity of this blend years ago. This is a Latakia blend with a pinch of perique and a very light fruity topping. Never mind Enistien the guy had five of the same suits what dose that tell you about the guy? The guys who made this popular are your grandfather's. Now it is best to smoke this in a smaller bowl or the flavor will die out in a larger pipe. Burns well packs easy smokes good fresh or dry. To bad they make it near impossible to find today. The best of the House Of Windsor Blends. I also would recommend JUNKYARD DAWG if you like Revelation. Here is a tip you can mix both and make the Revelation go a lot further. JUNKYARD is nearly the same but without the topping & perique. As one of the other reviewers said."There is somthing to please everyone with this blend."

ok the truth, once I found out that albert einstein had smoked revelation,I to had to try it,well he was one of the most gifted minds. now that I have tried it,I still don't understand e=mc2 now that said,it is a good all day smoke. good for those hot summer months. Tonight was the first time in my life I tried this mixture.

WELL.....It's not bad ! I tasted burley....a little berry topping.....and a VERY little latakia (not enough to write home about, but it WAS there).

If you want to call this a "drugstore tobacco", I guess I'd have to say that it's pretty damn good.......but I can't put it in the realms of the "GREATS".........(Dunhill, Rattrays, McClellands, Larsens......E.T.C.)

My impression is this might be a good "no-brainer"......something you might like to puff on while you're concentrating on something else !

For a real, late-night "contemplative" smoke in your den, with a sniffter of good spirits......Revelation may dissapoint you !

Revalation.06/03/06. In a nut shell,I found nothing negative about Revalation.Let's face it,it contains Burley,Kentucky,Virginia,Latakia and Perigue,so,there's something in this blend to please almost everyone! It smoked superbly and behaved beautifully all the way to the bottom of the bowl.Plus,no sign of tongue bite or any bitterness,leaving a very nice smoky grey ash in the bottom of the bowl.A very,very decent and most tasteful smoke,and definitely not boring at all."Yes,I'll happily buy more"

One of my favorite blends. Similar to Country Doctor but with far more flavor. This blend, known to be Einstein's favorite, pretty much packs itself. The various tobaccos meld together to create a unique flavor all it's own. The fruit topping is very light and far from overwhelming. It smokes cool and long with no bite. Although a bit pricey, you can get it at a bargain price at JR Cigar (roughly 1/2 the price of everywhere else).

This is a very good smoke and I highly recommend it.

UPDATE: JR Cigar no longer carries Revelation. To my knowledge, there is nowhere one can get it for the price JR used to charge when they carried it. It would appear that fans of this blend will now reside in MSRP hell.

Heritage....History....I was in the zone and ready to try Einsteins own.... and I loved it. Very much like Country Doctor- latakia content is a bit less, maybe a bit more burley? Great nutty naste, berry (?) topping is there. Was a little surprised in the begining- It was kinda strong with the fruit smell, but this mellowed and the nutty burley taste came forward about mid bowl. Great taste, no bite...RElaxing.....Really loved it. Got the 10oz can- loving every minute....I'll always have it around... On a side note....I work with a lovely lady who is my senior. She enjoys smelling the tobaccos I bring around for my lunch smokes. When she smelled this, knowing nothing of reviews etc, she said it reminded her of apple moonshine her Father used to make in his barn. Interesting...Once she said it, I could sort of identify a boozy smell....My imagination? You decide... *Downgraded since trying Baily's Front Porch- Which is a much better rendition of this blend......

Einsteins favorite blend now comes in a paper 'tin' so I wouldnt buy it for the art. End Result?? Although compared to Drugstore blends, and is in fact lacking in physical presentation. It is a fine tobacco and if it were sold in a metallic tin at three times the price I think they would wind up selling more. A good buy, a potent but mild tasting tobacco.

I tried this blend in effort to find a room-note that my wife would tolerate (I ordinarily smoke English blends). All I can say is that it's inoffensive. Not terrible, not great. As American blends go, it's not cloying like some, but it's definitely sugary. The sweetness is at its strongest in the first half of the bowl; after that it settles down into tea-biscuit sweetness without Burley for body. There is no Latakia taste, nor any Perique that I can discern, nor even much nuttiness from the Burley. Just a middle of the road Virginia with sugar on top.

If she likes it, I might use this when it's too cold to smoke outdoors. Otherwise I can't see any reason for this blend.

Whenever I smoke this tobacco, I am more aware of the Burley and Virginia than I am of the Latakia and Perique. The topping is more noticeable in the aroma than in the flavour, and I'm actually quite impressed by the quality of this renowned "drugstore" tobacco. My sample came to me at an optimum moisture level for packing and lighting, and the tobacco burned to a fine grey ash without repeated lightings.

This tobacco is quite good. As with most burley blends, it's best enjoyed in a corncob.

Revelation...as others have mentioned, this was Albert Einstein`s tobacco of choice. My immediate impression on first lighting up was the quite noticeable topping that has obviously been added to this tobacco. Never being very keen on aromatics, this set off alarm bells in my head. After a minute or two of puffing though, I decided I quite liked the flavour I was experiencing. Sweet, sort of fruity..with `real tobacco` notes in the background. As the bowl progresses downward, the initial sweet fruitiness fades noticeably and the tobacco flavours themselves become more and more noticeable. Burley,Kentucky, Virginia ,Latakia and Perique. Each of them complements the other in a very enjoyable way. None of them are overpowering. I`d like to shake the hand of whoever first blended this baccy, if he were still alive today. As you near the bottom of the bowl, the sweet topping has almost dissapeared...leaving the other constituents much more prominent. This is a really good smoke. I would recommend it to english and natural blend fanciers who are wanting something a little different. I find myself coming back to it again and again. The only concern I have with my 2.5 oz sample was that it was very fine, and required a light touch when packing a bowl so as not to restrict air flow too much. Maybe that`s just my sample, or maybe all Revelation has this extremely fine, crumbly consistency. I can see myself ordering more when this has all been smoked. Quite excellent indeed.

This is an update review. I recently purchased a 10oz tin of this and I am kind of sorry. I like the taste and the nicotine punch but this blend is rough on my gums. It don't bite the tongue but it makes your gums sore until you get used to it. It still tastes good and has lots of nicotine.

To me, Revelation is like my wife's vegetable soup recipe. She takes every veggie she can find in the fridge and dumps them all in a big pot. I hate my wife's vegetable soup, but this technique seems to have worked well for Revelation.

Made of 5 or 6 different tobaccos, Revelation is a hodge-podge more so than a proper blend. It tastes unrefined, unbalanced, but not unpleasant. It has a distinct old-fashioned feeling about it and a strong spiciness from the perique. The best words for this "blend" are rustic and woodsy - makes a great choice to take along on a camping trip or hike.

A good old school blend. Cool,sweet,dry,and satisfing. Not confectioned. The latakia and perique peek through occasionaly. Tastes like a light english. An oldie but goodie. Im smoking this right now as im writing this reveiw. House of windsor has a good thing going. I hope these blends catch on because Id like to see them more readily available. They can be found easily on-line but not in all tobacconist, smoke shops, or drugstores. Your old-time smokeshops that sell Kaywoodies and Yellowbowls will carry these blends. The other plus is PRICE ! $22.00 for a 10oz. tin, yep it went up and the tin size went down. You used to get a 14oz. tin for that price. All HOW tobaccos went up. I still smoke it and it's still as good as I said when I first reviewed it.

For me, Revelation Mixture is in between. I have smoked a lot of what I call english blends which are all heavy on the latakia and other orientals. I like these-- Balkan Sobranie and Craven Mixture in particular, when they were what they were. For a long time my staple smoke was Dunhill American Mixture, reminiscent of Craven, but based on virginia and burley. While my children were young, I backed off from my pipes and when I returned a few years ago, DAM had disappeared. I smoked a package or two of Revelation back in the 70's, but was not impressed. But I read about Rev as Einstein's favorite and I had to try it. Like DAM, it has the latakia and oriental highlights, but it also has a pleasant virginia and burley background. It has become the cornerstone of my tobacco cabinet.

This is one of those blends that I remember my Dad smoking back in the sixties. So many have reviewed this blend that I will keep my comments short. The blend is easy to pack, seldom needs a re-light and burns down to a grey/white ash. I find this smoke experience very pleasant and a nice chance of pace from my usual heavy English blends. On the initial light one does need to take care so as not to develop tongue-bite from the get-go. This can be an easy blend to overheat due to the type of cut. The virginia and burley seem to be the main components with the other tobaccos dancing in and around them. A nice change of pace.

This blend is not for the purist, and it is not for those with an aversion to latakia or perique. Revelation has a lot going on, but it all comes together in a great way.

I had turned my nose up at the HoW blends for a long time. They aren't available off the shelf anywhere near me, and I figured wouldn't be of sufficient quality to be worth adding to a tobacco order online with so many ?higher quality? blends to choose from.

Finally, after seeing enough discussion about Revelation to stir my interest enough to overcome my prejudice, I ordered some. I'm glad I did. It was love at first taste. I went through the first two ounces faster than I've ever used up a in of tobacco. I just can't stay away from it.

The latakia is there, but not in an overpowering way. You have to pay attention to notice the topping, and the perique is fairly subdued as well. The virginia and burleys provide a firm foundation.

This isn't an artsy blend, but it's certainly a well done one. A good, quality hot dog isn't gourmet, but they sure do taste good. That's the type of appeal to taste in Revlation and earns it the four stars. The facts that it packs easy, the nostalgia ? its been around a century ? Einstein reportedly smoked it, and comes in a can with the cool retro artwork, are all icing on the cake.

Tasty and my favorite from HOW. I would not go out of my way to look for this, yet I enjoy it occasionally when it is around. It seems to me that the HOW blends I have tried (all except Mapleton, Argosy, Bond/Bourbon St. and not planning to) are warm weather friendly.

House of Windsor would be well advised to shell out more pounds towards the quality of tobaccos and the handling of this blend in pre packaging. As it is in the tin upon opening it is destroyed of any form bearing the description ?ribbon.? More like tiny flakes of powder. That does not speak to me of a ?quality? blend. Notwithstanding it?s appearance this blend smells nice and fruity, I detect mostly Burley and Virginia in the way of tobacco- the Latakia and Perique are escaping my olfactory senses?perhaps muted by the aromatic component. Packing is somewhat laborious as the tobacco is in poor shape, one must literally search for larger pieces to fill the bottom of the bowl so that the ?powdered? tobacco doesn?t get sucked up into the draft hole. But his is all made worth the journey because the tobacco tastes great once fire is put to proper use.

I have smoked this blend in small, medium, and medium/large bowls and feel that it takes better to smaller sized bowls. The larger the bowl the more the aromatic component seems to come forth towards the bottom third of the bowl. Things moisten up, burn a bit harsh, and get sizzled as excessive moisture hits the top of the burning ember.

As to the Latakia component: You got me. It must be very light if it is there at all, or perhaps just muted by the casing, which is pleasant enough by the way.

Not the best blend that I have smoked, but a very interesting one that does bare complexity. If this ?Revelation? is the same that Einstein smoked than I can understand why he enjoyed it. For me- there are just too many other blends consisting of quality tobacco to applaud House of Windsor for this Revelation. But I do recommend it to the indiscriminate aromatic piper or somebody looking for a pleasant change with no 4th of July fireworks in the sky.

This is a difficult tobacco to rate. Compared to others of its kind, this is the Bentley of drugstore blends. The problem, though, is that this stuff can barely be found at any drugstore these days. You'll most likely find it amongst the many premium blends at some of the more popular online tobacco shops. So, in that sense, it's not as readily accessible as something like Captain Black, Half & Half, or Prince Albert--which are its more natural peers.

Taking that into consideration, it blows the previous blends away in taste and complexity..but still falls far short of the many premium blends currently on the market. What I can say, though, is that I would smoke a ton of this stuff, and far less of the premium stuff, if it were still available around the corner in a Rite Aid. But it's not. I can buy a pouch of this stuff at Pipesandcigars for a little over three bucks or a tin of Dunhill for less than five dollars at JRcigars--what would you do? It's just bad marketing in my opinion.

Regarding taste, I find that the Burley and Perique are the most dominant elements in the blend. I understand that this contains Latakia, and I would never guess that if I hadn't been informed. The "fruity" topping is barely noticeable, in my opinion. So if you're worried about a strangely aromatic smoke, don't bother to concern yourself. The tobacco is here, far in the front.

It really is a shame I can't buy this stuff in the drugstore. It would make things so much easier.

Eh. Not much to report here. The tobaccos just don't seem to come together to form anything as interesting as I would expect. It's not bad. But, it's not special in my notes, so I won't find much cause to seek it out. I suppose if one is looking for a 4 foundation blend, this might be considered good, but I find that there is limited interplay between them.

Every time I light this up, I wonder why it isn't a regular. Must be the dreaded "cheap smoke" prejudice common to all blends once sold in drugstores. It really is a tasty burley smoke. I try to associate my tobaccos with similar tasting ones, but this one doesn't have a comparison.

It has a very light flavoring that is also hard to define, but I wouldn't classify it as an aromatic. It seems to be indifferent to bowl size, but as with many burley blends, it is best in a cob. Don't pack tightly, light once and you're set.

Definitely a must-try for burley smokers. Like Prince Albert, it needs a higher price, a new name and reintroduced as a boutique blend.

The "fruity topping" that so many comment on, is something I did smell in the tin, but never notice when smoking. It packs and lights easy, burns cool, slow, even and never gets bitter.

Revelation has many pluses, it has a tasty complex flavor, no bite whatsoever and can be smoked all day. It's premium burley accented by virginia flakes. The perique and latakia stay in the background, but poke through just enough to round out to a creamy smooth yet spicey aftertaste. The taste and aroma of true complexity sums up this blend best.

Revised 4.30.05

Yesterday I could not find my open tin of Dunhill's London Mixture so I popped a tin of Revelation open and filled one of my best Latakia pipes.

Granular in texture, Revelation is very easy to fill the pipe with. No 'packing' needed - a gravity fill does the job nicely.

Upon lighting I was surprised that this was not a simple burley and latakia mixture! The VA was there, under the burley and the latakia was there.. and the perique is in the background doing it's own thing. This is a blend with some complexity.

After smoking nearly a full tin, I've adjusted my initial thoughts. The smoke is pleasant all the way down the bowl though at times it can be nippy to the tongue. At the halfway mark the VA's start popping out a bit more as well as the perique. Revelation never does get sour or wet. Harmonious, this is a more complicated little offering than most and does well in smaller bowls for my consumption.

Recommended for those who like a light to medium English with a touch of the Louisiana product. I've got a smaller Castello Sea Rock that loves this blend.

My wife purchased this tobacco for me for Christmas. A 10 oz can. 4 months later I have smoked a few bowls of it. It always starts out rough for me. Poor taste ect ect.. at about the half way mark every time it settles down and tastes great, burns solid and clean all the way to the end. If I could ever figure out hoe to get it "good" right off the bat it may become a regular.

Back in the 60's as a pipe-smoking teenager, I ran across an ad for Revelation while reading Sports Afield magazine. The ad touted Revelation as a tobacco free of flavorings or aromatics: "Just tobacco, boys. Five great tobaccos in all." I said "That's for me!" and in my rural area I was able to find it fresh in one drug store. It quickly became a favorite of mine, and I bought it when I could.

The re-introduced Revelation from House of Windsor is definitely not the same as the original. In some ways, I think it a bit better. It's a little sweeter and nuttier, with a more granular cut as opposed to original Rev's flakier texture. It packs and lights easily, burns cool, and doesn't get bitter. It's primarily high grade burley in taste, with a little accent from the Virginia flakes. I don't notice much contribution from its perique component.

I recommend it to those like me who appreciate a good burley blend, but not for nostalgia. It's a replica mostly in name only. On its own merits, however, it actually competes very well against some of the great burley blends from C&D.

I'm sitting here puffing away yet another bowl of this wonderful tobacco. Revelation is a smooth non-biting lightly topped tobacco.I would agree with others that it is some kindy of berry casing. The casing is very light, kinda like an 'essence of berry" not your typical dripping wet, steam producing, tounge biting, horrible stuff that you find in the jars of most 'baccy shops. The bowl is good all the way down with no bitter burley finish. In fact thats how you can tell the bowl is empty, if any bitter taste is detected you know its time for a refill, as there is nothing but ash left. No sloppy dottle. I can't fathom why this blend was discontinued, it is absolutely top notch and just as good as the Dunhill's, C&D's and Pease blends I smoke. It performs well in all pipes I have and the wife likes the room note. I strongly recommend this blend to all pipesters new & old alike. If this is any kind of indication as to what "drug store" blends were like, I was born in the wrong era PS: I've smoked 4 pouches of this and am currently working on a 10 oz can. They are both excellent. 2/16/05

The dust has long settled on the now defunct House of Windsor. The hype that surrounded the release of a whole bunch of old timey blends is nearly forgotten. But darn, I really miss this blend. I've found, way at the back of one of my tobacco drawers, about 1/3 of a tin and have been smoking this at intervals, knowing that when it's gone, it's REALLY gone. A truly great blend. Real "oomph". Lots of varied tobacco flavors that are not so much a melody, or nuance or any of that, but more of a riot. In your face. Loud and noisy. And yet actually a smooth smoke. Never got bit or jostled by this one. Knowing what I know now and having tried a lot of other tobaccos in the interim, if HOW were still in operation I'd buy up a couple of truckloads of Revelation, Country Doctor and Briggs.

I'll just try to add a few notes here to what the other reviewers have already said. I came to this blend as a smoker of very simple no frills burleys. It has proved to be a delightful change of pace and is one of best of the HOW lineup, IMHO. Yep, it seems dry in the can, but lights easily and needs few relights. I've experience no tongue bite and can smoke it down to the nubs with no backlash. I enjoy the basic burley/ virginia taste which remains in the foreground, and the hint of Latakia which remains in the backround but for me never disappears. In my mind this is several rungs up the ladder from the simple drug store burley blends due to the hint of complexity and richness that you don't see in those others. Especially if smoked very slowly.

Funny thing: my 4 oz. can has held a moderately strong scent of some topping that others have referred to. My 10 oz. can has little to no smell other than that of tobacco, but smokes the same and taste just as great. I rarely go through one day without at least one bowl of this great old blend. Highly recommended, especially for the burley smoker looking for something a little different.

As a new pipe smoker, I ordered several types of tobacco to sample. I received a 2oz can of revelation along with several other brands. This was by far the best! It doesn't have that over powering casing I've found with other over the counter brands. I smoked up all 2oz as fast as I could and I just received a 10oz can today. This stuff has a yummy flavor, does not bite, and can be smoked all day long. If your a new smoker and Captain Black is not your style, give this a try. Also, I started the pipe to get off of cigarettes, so maybe thats why I enjoy it so much?

This is an interesting tobacco. Opening the pouch, I was pleasantly suprised by an aroma that reminded me of Wilke's Nut Brown Burley, sort of an apple pie scent. By the way, I learned by putting one in my mouth, that Nut Brown Burley has sweet little chunks of tobacco confections in the blend. They are like little tobacco malted milk balls, not in taste, but in the way they melt in the mouth.

In the pouch Revelation is pleasant to the eye, with a range of colors and cuts. It also packs easily, lights and burns well I have smoked it in a couple of large briars and a large cob. The result is positive and consistent across these three pipes.

With each pipe my first sensation is a hot, prickly feeling on my tongue and soft pallet. This never develops into a burnt tongue. It disipates quickly and does not return. My taste must be dull, or untrained, but the perique never stands out. I do notice the latakia when I blow the smoke through my nose. Other than that, this is a well balanced blend where the various tobaccos meld to present an harmonious taste throughout the bowl.

I like the taste and the scent of the smoke, a pleasant, clean tobacco taste and odor. This is good stuff and worth the purchase. I don't think it will make my top five, but it will be in my top ten. Pretty darn good for a so called "drug store" tobacco. Albert was on to something!

As I said in my review of Country Doctor, I could tell little difference between these two blends. As with Country Doctor, Revelation was extremely dry in the tin and needed re-hydrating. Just guessing, but maybe the reason that this and other HoW blends are so dry out of the tin is because the ?tin? is made of thick paper or cardboard tubing, which I?m thinking probably doesn?t provide the kind of hermetically-sealed environment that metal tins do. Maybe that?s part of the drugstore-blends-of-days-gone-by appeal of these blends, though.

Revelation also resembled Country Doctor in that: it?s predisposed to bite if you?re not careful; it?s dominated by the Virginias and burley, with Latakia barely detectable for most of the bowl; it probably has a great room note, though I can't really guarantee it as I didn?t smoke it anywhere where I could get such feedback; it smoked nice and dry all the way to the bottom of the bowl.

I finally gave this blend a try and I'll make my review short as most of the points have been covered by the other posts. I enjoy full english, heavy latakia and or perique blends. Knowing it was a mild to medium bodied smoke I gave it a try and was very pleased.At first I was a little nervour when I opened the tin and noticed the fruity tin aroma. I said uh oh, I don think this is for me. I packed my pipe and lighted up. I was very pleased. I found it to be a subtle yet complex smoke. Very nice taste, great price, I will definitely give the other House of Windsor line try based on my experience with this tobacco. I'm keeping this in my regular rotation I've decided add a little more to my review since I have began smoking Revelation on a regular basis. I used to smoke Nightcap in the evenings but then switched to Revelation. now now some may disagree with my but to my tastes, I've noticed a review or two that mentioned that this was pretty big on the nicotine, but in my opinion, I don't think it's got a heavy nicotine content. The more I smoke this blend the more I seem to enjoy it. One of the reviews mentioned that he thinks this is still blended by hand. I called the company and had a great conversation with them and it is in fact still blended by hand and a few of the sizes (I believe it is the pouches) are still packed by hand. And yes, it is also true the good ole Albert Einstein was a Revelation smoker!

This is good. The taste is very traditional. Knowing a bit about how it made and how it is supposed to be hand blended, I know they put some casing on it. But I cannot detect any. Maybe because my pack was too dried and the favoring of the casing had escape or something. It smells, burns, smoke like 100% tobacco. Where I live this is sold as a drug store price tobacco. I rate this the best price/performance tobacco ever. Quality blend of quality leaf. Yet somehow I don't associate the effects of relativity when smoking it. The subtle, but harty flavor gave it a farming community image where folks are living off the land in a simple manner. Maybe this is what Albert needed, an occasion of simplicity. From the flavoring point of view, this is very interesting too. Usually Lakatia and Perique and other spiced up weeds make up the front-end of the mix. This is un-usual because these 'spiced up weeds' is mixed in Revelation so that it serves a connecting bridge between the sweet Vs and the perky burley. hum...there is wisdom in da house...

I've been smoking this on occasion since Wm. Serad's House of Windsor review in Pipes & Tobaccos Magazine. I don't normally gravitate toward any blend containing Latakia; I've never really gotten to like it, though I can tolerate it in small amounts or when restrained by the presence of other elements. However, I like Revelation a lot. It is so well balanced that no one tobacco in the blend overwhelms any other. I believe you can detect VA, burley, Latakia and even Perique with just a wafting of some sweet topping. Wm. Serad was quite correct in his glowing review of this blend, especially when he related that each tobacco in this blend emerges in turn during the course of a pipefull. You can taste the Latakia, then the burley, then the Perique, etc. Delightful! I give Revelation a "B+".

Ok, ok, ok...my curiosity was piqued by the "Einstein's favorite" reference...that and the fact that it's a relatively inexpensive smoke AND that it's manufactured locally in Pennsylvania got me to purchase a couple packages from my favorite online pipe tobacco dealer.

My experience with choosing tobaccos is probably somewhat similar to other smokers - everytime I think I find that "old reliable, all day/everyday smoke" I'm looking for, I get curious about something else. However, I definitely think REVELATION fits that title better than just about any smoke I've tried so far. While it takes some hydration to get it into 'smoking condition', it packs very easily, lights easily, and stays lit. Except for some minor dampness (which can be cured by a mid-smoke pipe cleaner inserted in the stem), this is truly a 'maintenence free' smoke.

I also like that it's relatively free of overwhelming aromas; yes, it has a "light fruity topping" that I've heard others describe as "minty", I'd have to say it's really more like that unidentifiable fruity smell in Juicy Fruit chewing gum; not bad - in fact, it's pretty appetizing - and it leads your nose right down into the smoke. It's subtle enough - and generic enough - to be most pleasant and the aroma can be habit-forming itself; I sometimes just open the pack to get a 'whiff', even if I don't plan to smoke any for a while...

Anyway, it's very smooth smoking and tasting - and pretty consistent throughout. Although I just smoked some outside tonight and it wasn't nearly as full-tasting in the wind as it is in my basement or garage (can you tell I'm not allowed to smoke in the house??). Anyway, I'm not going to let the outdoor experience dissuade me...I will continue to experiment as I think, for the money and the value, this is an excellent smoke.

Furthermore, I've tried two other House of Windsor blends - Country Doctor and Barking Dog - and I think REVELATION is the middle ground between those two. REVELATION actually bites LESS than Barking Dog, and is a little less imposing than Doctor in strength; however, that might not make a difference for those seeking stronger smokes. Because of this, I'm looking forward to trying Union Leader and some others soon...

But, I digress...again, I bought this thinking I might see what Dr Einstein used to smoke during his moments of deep reflection. However, I discovered that this smoke has a lot of depth just by itself.

My first reaction upon opening the can was that compared to most other tins of tobacco, this mix looked too dry. If you tried to fill your pipe in a strong wind most of the tobacco would escape. Someone compared the consistency to flake-type fish food. Pretty close. First sniff of opened container...Smells great. I failed to detect any real topping or casing smell. It just smells like tobacco should. It smokes well requiring few relights. I'm one who avoids smoking into the bitter zone (the bottom 20-30% of the bowl). To me it's like smoking the final inch of a non-filter cigarette. Tastes bad, bad for you too. The only problem I've had with this tobacco is obtaining it! It took me many tries on the internet to actually get some and none of the local suppliers stock it or have had any luck getting it. Bottom line is...where can I buy the 12 oz. can?

OK! So we all know what this tobacco is made up and it was one of Albert Einstein's preferred blends. (By the way, does anyone else know what else Einstein smoked) Anyway, I am getting away from this review. This blend is supberb and only renews my opinion about drug store brand tobacco's. It is very tradtional in so far as what American pipe tobacco use to be like about 40 or 50 more years ago. And as far as taste and smoking quality, it certainly, in my opinion, beats out Cornell and Diehl's comparable blends. And it just so happens that I am a fan of Cornell and Diehl. But Revelation is certainly much easier on the pocket book and besides that, my neighbor hood tobacconist supplies it regularly in the 12 ounce tin. The taste is mild and fruity, and I have received quite a few complements on the aroma. A neat feat when one considers the attitude that smoking is taking in public places!! Although, many of House of Winsdor blends have found a place in my heart, Revelation is a personal favorite of mine, right up there along with Country Doctor. By the way, I guess I will stand out from the crowd of other reviewers by mentioning that I don't think the moisture level is too dry. I found that as the tobacco smokes down into the bowl, it takes on a moisture of it's own and can start smoking a bit on the wet side if the pipe is puffed too fast. In concluding, this blend is also a personal favorite of mine when I light up my meershaum. And lately, I'm starting to prefer meershaum's over briar when hanging around the house.

I will be a dissenter on this blend. I gave it a fair chance in five different pipes on five different days and I just didn?t care for it. The first third of the bowl was pleasant enough but it became increasingly harsh and bit me towards the bottom of the bowls. I may not a fan of Latakia or Perique in large doses and it was perhaps these tobaccos that swayed me negatively but I?m not saying this blend contains an over abundance of these tobaccos. Maybe it?s just me but Revelation fell short of what I expected based on previous reviews. As concerns HOW blends and the five I?ve tried, I much prefer Country Doctor and Union Leader.

I ordered this last fall and smoked it for the first time at a highschool football game. The cool air and this blend brought me into some sort of smokers euphoria and took me back in time. For a while I could not get enough, the mixture of burleys, latatkia , perique, and virginas created a much different flavor and experiance than I was used to with english blends. I think I have a hold on my addiction now, however I now seek out blends of this type whenever possible. Keep it comming House of Windsor!

My last few experiences with Burley blends left me unimpressed. After reading the reviews for Revelation and the other House of Windsor blends, I decided to get back in the saddle and try again.

I'm glad that I did. Revelation is a wonderful smoke: cool and mild, perfect for those times when you have a pipe stuck in your face while walking the dog or doing yard work.

The leaf is very, very dry out of the 2 oz. pouch, so smoke it fast or move it into a sealing storage container. The 4 oz. can works better then the pouch for intermediate storage. The cut is mixed, including a few longer ribbons and mostly shorter "chaff", but it packs and lights well.

The casing is somewhat noticeable at first, but it is not unpleasant or offensive. Most of the residual sweetness comes from the topping and not from the Virginia leaf, which seems to be mostly present for color. If there is Latakia and Orientals here, they stay well hidden in the background. This is a Burley blend first and foremost.

The bottom half of the bowl provides a different smoke - the topping is mostly gone and is replaced with a mellow nuttiness that retains a mild sweetness. The leaf is easy to light and burns well all the way to the bottom of the bowl. I experienced no excessive moisture in the bowl in any pipe I smoked this in. A good cake builder; I might use this blend to break in new pipes.

This is not a rich or fancy tobacco. Revelation provides a blue collar smoke with a lot of bang for the buck. I don't know how many more Burley blends I will try, but this one goes into the rotation.

Hey?!!! This stuff ain't bad! Another winner brought back from beyond the grave by HOW. They certainly had more winners than losers. This blend is very pleasant in that old school way that you never see anymore. It is very similiar to Country Doc but with more of a berry casing added in. This will be great in the summertime rotation!

Revelation is readily available in my area and, noting the favorable reviews, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. It is certainly inexpensive and available at many gas stations! I don't have any nostalgic conections to this brand, but I chose to try this retro blend in a retro pipe, my dad's 1960's vintage "Doodler": a large bowl straight stem with what's best described as a perforated bowl designed to keep things cool.

Straight out of the pouch, Rev is very dry, but well cut. It reminded me in texture somewhat like flake goldfish food. When lit it produced a pleasant Virginia note and smoked mild and inofensive, but nothing special. I poured the tobacco into a ziplock bag, sprinkled it with water and let it set for 2 days.

The second smoke found the tobacco moist and packable, much improved in texture. The characteristics of the second smoke was again mild: not bad, but not a rave.

2 weeks later I pulled it out again. This time I added some Germain's Brown Flake in a ratio of about 1 to 5. This smoke was much improved, the Virginia taste popped out and was very satisfying. The burn was even, leaving a grey-white ash. Flavor was consistent to the end, but got quite hot at the bottom of the bowl.

Although I added the Germain's, I believe that this blend benefits greatly by hydration and letting it sit for a while. Try adding a little bit of your favorite premium VA and see what happens. I am a light smoker and the nicotine gave me a good buzz. This will wake up the monkey for sure. Recommended for 3rd shift guys who need a little something to get over the 2:00 hump. You know what I mean.

All in all, worth it, but needs some doctoring. Einstien was right!

Revelation, a name that makes one think of religious faith, or a breakthough in thought. In this case the name is a perfect fit for this tobacco. Albert Einstein was reported to have made this blend his first choice, among all tobaccos! How can you argue with Einstein? I'll try. Though I enjoy this tobacco (I love the cut), and most all House of Windsor Blends, Revelation is not something that would make me go WOW!. It is a good cross over blend for those who want to try a little Latakia for the first time. Perique is is also used, and can be detected at times during the smoke, along with the tast of the mild casing put on the tobacco during blending. Those two flavors together, was something I was not fond of. I believe that is where I find my disagreement with this blend. If it were not for the occasional taste of the all powerful Perique, I just might have found myself with a revelation. Instead, I smoke this tobacco on occasion, when I want a change from my normal smoke, of the heavy Latikia based Old Ironsides. Give it a try, along with all House of Windson blends, and you might find yourself in good company. How can you argue with Einstein?

I really enjoyed this blend. I believe I will purchase this and Barking Dog in a larger quanity next time for these are NOT run of the mill blends. Once again the blend consists of various leafs but just a dab of latakia, and perique with more Virginia and Burley?. I like the smell and would say yes it is fruity but not overly so. It smells to me mostly like tobacco and leaves a wonderful room aroma. Taste wise it is mellow and interesting as you go down the bowl. I too had a problem with humidity of the pouch... my pouch was not too well sealed and the tobacco was somewhat dry as a result. I spritzed it with water and let it set a day in the pouch. The next day all was well with the tobacco and kept a good moisture level until it was totally consumed (2 weeks).

This a blend of Bright Flake, Red Virginia, Burley cube cut, Latakia and Perique with a mild fruit flavor all of these with the exception of the Virginias I'm not crazy about. Although, it does bring back memories from yesteryear. This is a blend you have to smoke very slow to get the full robust of the different tastes and aromas. Saying all that, If I were to select a tobacco with Perique, Latakia and fruit this would be the one as they are blended quite niicely.

I'm sure that I smoked this blend years and years ago. But, I can't remember it, and I cannot compare the current version to the one in the past. I purchased this in pouch form rather than the more available larger can. In appearance, it is composed of very fine cut dark brown cubes and diced leaf. There are some larger bright yellow flakes. The pouch aroma is that of some sort of mint type topping. For a drugstore blend, it was quite dry and needed a bit of moisture to pull it together. On first light, the topping comes through, but it quickly disappears. It settles down to a very enjoyable, almost straight tobacco flavor. There is just the smallest hint of Latakia. Perique is present. It burns fairly smooth and, for me, it is bite free. This has a strong nicotine content. It burns smooth, and finished with a dry light gray ash. The room aroma is favorable from the topping, but again, the topping is not present in the smoke after the first few puffs. For a so called drugstore blend, this has to be one of the best. Just packing the pipe from a pouch brings back favorable memories. I'll keep some around. I smoke a few bowls a week. Give this a try for fun.

This blend was originally developed by Phillip Morris many decades ago. It is one of the fifty or so "drug store" American blends still available. Consisting of Kentucky burley, Virginia bright, old belt Virginia, Latakia and Perique, this mixture is flavorful, pleasant smelling, even burning and cool smoking. I find this is a subtle yet excellent way to enjoy Perique. Whatever you may think of this class of pipe tobaccos, you should definitely give this a try before it becomes unavailable. There is nothing else quite like it.

Incidentally, this was Albert Einstein's mixture of choice!
