Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - No. 27 Perique Flake (Reunion).
My pouch contains long, dark, rich smelling, flakes with a sporadic scattering of crystals. Like the Reunion Bourbon Flake I reviewed recently they're long; same as that, a 25g pouch contains just three long flakes. The moisture makes it raring to go!
The smoke? I do hope this isn't one of those blends to disappear from the market lickety-split! Sweet, tangy, Virginia accounts for the foremost flavour, but is nicely complimented by the Perique; this doesn't monopolize the smoke with a vinegary, harsh, bitterness, or even a 'whack' of Perique-fruit. It adds a touch of sapidity and spiciness, is sharp, but only seasons the Virginia, without taking over. My smoke has been fairly cool, from quite a slow burn.
Nicotine: medium when pushed. Room-note: slightly pungent.
No. 27 Perique Flake Reunion? A smashing smoke which deserves four stars:
