I’m excited (and a bit surprised) to find that I am contributing the first review of this excellent straight Virginia. Not to be confused with PCCA Boston 1776, which has an Oriental/Turkish condiment, but very similar to GKCPC Boston 1776, which is also a straight Virginia. To my tastes, I find this 1996 a sweeter blend than the GKCPC Boston 1776, although they are very similar in nature, being straight bright Virginia flakes, both crafted by McClelland. I defer to those with a stronger background in these blends to explain the difference.

My tin is dated to 1994, so 25 years of aging, which was reflected in the sugar crystals glistening on the dark brown mahogany colored flakes. The tobacco consists of a combination of broken flakes and some full, unbroken ones, as well. Still moist after 25 years (!), but it lit easily, although it left a little moisture in the bowl. Delightfully fruity aroma when I popped open the tin. As expected with a very well-aged straight Virginia, this was a sweet, creamy smoke. Very fruity, a pleasant spice develops along your journey. Easily rubbed out, and smoked ever so slowly, I found the flavors deepened as you work way through your bowl (not surprising, given McClelland's ability to work wonders with straight Virginia flakes). Mild nic-hit. Great room note for me, and easily an all day smoke.
