This flake reminds me very, very much of Solani's Aged Burley Flake! Same ingridients, in the tin the flakes are all sticking to eachother, just as with ABF, both produced by K&K. Also just as ABF it's mostly brown with some black speckles and I suppose there is Brazilian and Kentucky leaf present as well! The tin note is quite similar as well, but Tullagreme 12 has an plum-ish note to it, which ABF doesn't have.
Perfectly conditioned for a flake, 10-20mins of drying and I was good to go, but my tin had some age to it (1-2 years), as it had the old warning-stickers on it. IF you can tear apart a whole flake slice from the clump of flakes in the tin, you can perfectly fold&stuff this baby.I got good results by using a thin knife blade to "extract" flake slices from the clump.
It takes the light quite well and burns very smooth, clean and cold, whilst pleasing you with a wonderful Burley aroma. Not only the look of the flakes and the tin note is very similar to Aged Burley Flake, but also the flavours when smoldering in your pipe. Rich aroma of dark, roasted, brown bread and dough, a bit peppery and intensly spicy without overwhelming in strength. With notes of sweet and tart nuts, as well as a whiff of grounded coffee beans and by times dark chocolate. The "licorice-like taste" that's promised in the description is very mildly present and I suppose it may come from a very, very mild flavouring and may as well be responsible for the fruity-ish, plum-y scent in the tin-note.
An excellent flake, which I instantly liked! Besides all the similarities to the Aged Burley Flake, this blend has its own character to me. You might think its the same tobacco blend, but to me they have minor differences! My guess really is, that Tullagreme 12 is the same as ABF, exact same leafs but with a different sauce. Whilst ABF has a chocolate flavouring, this one has a licorice-ish one. A companion to Solani's Aged Burley Flake.Imho it's the same "symphony" just in a "different variation"...hard to tell if I find ABF of Tullagreme 12 to be the better variation!
