Peretti's only pure Virginia mixture. RCTR shows a subtle sweetness and nuance without cloying. A refined mixture for the Virginia lover.
Notes: We've got many blends. But we lack one distinct and classic style of mixture. An all Virginia blend. RCTR covers that base gracefully. Initially blended as a limited item for the Chicago show some years ago, we've brought it back in a semi-limited capacity for our ever growing list of dedicated pipers to (hopefully) enchant.
Not long ago, we received a call from a curious customer who had dug up a tin of RCTR he hadn't touched until a few days ago. He called because our collective handwriting is abysmal and he couldn't make out the glyphs marked on his can. Fair.
"R.... C I B?", he asked.
After a few moments of thought and a few odd looks between the staff at Peretti's, we decided it could only have been RCTR. The man who called was simply delighted at how wonderfully the tobacco had aged. After that conversation, we decided to blend up a batch and make it available online. Try it for yourself and learn what bad penmanship is like.
The various Virginias offer a bit of tart citrus, wood and earth, a mild stewed, sugary, tangy dark fruitiness and some grass, a few bread and wood notes, along with a touch of spice and floralness. Also sports a very mild tanginess. The strength is a step past the mild level, while the taste is a step past that. The nic-hit is mild. Won’t bite, but may burn a tad warm if puffed fast. Burns fairly cool, very clean, and a little quickly with a very smooth, very consistent flavor from start to finish. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires few relights. Has a short lived, pleasant after taste and room note. It does lack a little depth, but it’s an all day smoke that could make a good mixer, too. Three and a half stars out of four.
A really pleasant medium bodied medium strength VA blend with lots of aging potential. A really enjoyable, smooth and cool smoking and bite free. I have cellared away pounds of it. It is very nice.
A very pleasant all day smoke. I bought an 8oz. paint can from Peretti and it's moisture content was perfect ready to be smoked. I loaded a tall narrow Reum billiard. This being a straight virginia, I expected grassy, hay flavors, but it was the opposite. This one is very earthy with hints of citrus tones with a slight hint of grassiness in the retrohale. It's a dry smoke that requires minimal relights. finishes in a white clean ash.
I can’t see where the specific Virginias are mentioned, but I sense all bright and red. Sweet, tart citrus with a little grassiness and bready-ness here and there. Presents as tiny, thin ribbons that are easy to pack, light, and keep lit. Will nibble a bit if you have a tendency to puff to fast like I do; a 9mm filter is my salvation. I believe this compares favorably to F&T Blackjack, though a bit more tart and tangy.
Would make a first rate all day smoke. Some aging helps (mine is from 2017),as it brings out a floral taste, and smooths thing out a bit.To my experience, have not smoked anything else like it with the exception of Cornell and Diehl Pegasus. but I'm not a huge smoker of straight Virginias such as this.only on occasion. Not bad.
