At opening the tin there’s a nice and sweet bread smell. Leaf is pretty thin mix cut and a lot of golden brown Virginia sprinkled with black Latakia strings. The VA is very moist so I dried it out for quite a long time at least 4h. Packed well and took flames immediately burning cool and steady even when pushed a bit.

Taste is very sweet with spicy undertones as with many English blends. Not much changing in taste a bit of orient would maybe spice it up a bit. It’s getting a bit stronger at the end but still not harsh or too overwhelming.

Solid all day smoke at a fair price. Good for newbies in Latakia.

Pipe Used: 9mm churchwarden and 6mm briar

Age When Smoked: Dried out few hours

Purchased From: Tabak Heinrich

One of the few pipe tobaccos of which I couldn't finish a tin. That's not to say It won't suit someone else perfectly but there is a lot of bite and quite a strong aftertaste which is , I assume, from the Latakia content.

I found a tin of this on Ebay and thought it was a no longer produced blend. At least that's what the seller said, and Ebay sellers don't ever lie, do they?

Anyhoo, this tasted almost identical to Mac Baren's Latakia Mixture. It was very mild (almost to the point of being flat) in flavor. Although the Syrian Latakia came through, it was most certainly deep in the background with the Virginia leaf on the front lines.

This blend seems to have more of a nic hit than most of its type, and it may be the Virginia that helps that along.
