In response to varying regional restrictions placed upon additives, recently STG Canada released three blends with no added flavours, Colts Bright Virginia being one of them.
As the name suggests, it is a light-coloured blend, with a very fine ribbon cut; it could almost be used for hand-rolling. Although there are no added flavours, there is an extra element of sweetness granted by a lighter than expected touch of humectants. Despite the humectants, needed because the blend is sold in a not very well sealed pouch, the overall experience is pleasant: tasting of hay, a woodsy touch, slightly nutty, generally just tasting and smelling like a good tobacco. The closest thing I have had to this is Uhle's Blend No.44, also an unpretentious Va/Bur: I like Bright Virginia a lot more than the Uhle's blend, much to my surprise.
I don't imagine it will ever join the Pantheon of the Greats, but CBV is an inexpensive, solid three star choice. I will be smoking more of this.
Decent Virginia blend if you're in Canada and can't put your hands on American stuff as it is one the few OTC blends here. Nothing extraordinary but definitely not bad either. Bought as part of a starter kit at my local tobacconist when I first started out.
