The woody, earthy, spicy, nutty sweet Kentucky burley takes the lead here, and also sports a touch of floral. The light and dark Virginias provide a mild, tangy dark fruit, a bit of tart and tangy citrus, some earth and grass, along with a little wood. The rich licorice topping is much more obvious than the molasses, which is in the background. Both tone down the tobaccos to a fair extent. The strength almost reaches the medium mark, while the taste does hit that level. The nic-hit is in the center of mild to medium. Won’t bite or get harsh, but there a hint of a rough edge once in a while. The flakes easily break apart to suit your packing preference. Burns cool, clean, and a tad slow with a mostly consistent, sweet, mildly spicy and savory flavor from start to finish. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires some relights. The pleasant after taste, and mildly stronger room notes do linger a mite. Can be an all day smoke for the experienced smoker.
This blend is the very same as the Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky (The Black Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky tins are not sold in Europe anymore) Please see taste reviews from the other reviewers
This is copy of the well known Dark Strong Kentucky. One of my favourite blends. Everytime I don´t know what to smoke I grab this tin. Nice strong taste, sweet and smoky with a little licorice/plum flavour in the backround.
Like all HU tobacco , this one as well made from high quality leaves. Very similar to Orlik dark strong Kentucky. Nice cool smoke, no chance of bite, leaving some moisture at the end. Personally for me not an all day smoke, and not for people whos like fuller flavor tobacco. Recommended.
Who doesn’t like how this flake looks with the dark and bright tobacco separated? But I asked myself if this doesn’t effect the taste in a bad way if you don’t rub out. So, I had to try this flake. The tin note is very sweet, nutty and a bit woody. The web page of HU Tobacco says, that there is a plum flavour added. I can smell this just because I read it. I folded two flakes in my pipe and it was filled perfectly. The lit tobacco tastes nutty and sweet. The separation of the tobacco makes it just more interesting, because one time the tobacco tastes sweet, grassy and a bit of citrusy and after a while the taste switches to a more nutty, earthy, woody and strong taste. All the time I can tell that there is a flavour added but it’s mild and only from time to time I can tell that it’s plum. Sometimes I can get a bit of licorice as well. This tobacco remains all the time interesting and I could smoke it every day.
