I found this 100g tin at the 2016 Chicago Pipe Show. The bottom of the tin is stamped “3789” That and the condition of the label led me to believe this is from 1989.

With a tobacco aged this long and with a topping, I can’t even come close to identifying the components – only Mary McNeil could do that. As you would expect after twenty-seven years, this is smooth-smooth-smooth. All the tobaccos aged to a very dark brown. The lined tin held up and kept the tobacco in perfect condition.

The rum topping takes the lead over an extremely mild blend. Everyone who tried it at the show liked it, although some reported that it was too mild for them. It’s great as far as I am concerned. It would be nice to have someone who smoked Chinatown in the eighties or nineties report on this.

Look at that description! I haven’t seen that much hyperbole on any product, even tobacco. So hat’s off to whoever wrote that. There were two tins of the same vintage which had the opposite copy. “Nat Sherman's No Bite Lite. Enough said.” No! Not enough said!
