New Review Sorting Options

The biggest issue people seemed to have with the new features was the new default sorting based on votes for/against a review. Today I have gotten part way to solving all of those problems.

As of right now, you can, if you are logged in, choose to sort the reviews by Votes (the new default), Newest first (the old default) or by Rating (high to low). I will probably add a few more in the coming week or so, but those options should address the majority of the complaints I got about the new sorting default.

Excellent work. I really like the options for viewing a blend. I’ll go smoke a bowl in your honor. Thank you, Jon.

I agree. You have outdone yourself. I think this will make everyone more than happy.

Thanks guys. I like this solution (thanks to Tom for suggesting it), as it allows everyone who enjoys reading every review on the site an easy way to keep up with what’s new (and hopefully rate all of the new reviews as well), and allows the default pages, the ones that random visitors and search engines see, to present our best, most informative content.

After getting this comment into the wrong topic! (thanks Jon for the gentle reminder, much appreciated) I think that the default setting ought to be the most recent review on the
Tobacco Reviews page, rather than ‘the most helpful’. Let me try to explain why: personally I don’t really see the point of view of a most helpful review. I’m looking at reviews of tobacco’s I know and love just to see what other folk think of them…and then again at baccies I’ve never tried. Why would I want to look at what other folk think is helpful? They may like
tobacco’s diametrically opposed to my tastes. Seems of fairly low value to me. When I pull up the Reviews page I want to see the latest reviews…the ones that are newly added. It’s always a thrill to see a new review to say McClellands 5100….but then a new review on Briar Fox (which I’ve never tried) might tempt me to dig deeper. Every day I scan the new reviews, reading them all pretty religiously. I’m sure others do too. Having the Reviews defaulting to the newest review, as it always used to, seems the most sensible way of doing things to me.
without having to fiddle around logging on and then individually pull up
the latest review on each tobacco
